Living with the Quiggle by Hituro | |
Quiggles have never been been the most popular of NeoPets,
maybe people don't like frogs, maybe people don't realise what bundles
of energy they are, but that hasn't stopped a whole pile of them from
becoming part of my life.
Between us, my wife and I, we own five Quiggles. There
are my pets Smoozle and Flat_head_frog, my wife's Hituro and the Quiggles
who help run our guild, Guildmaster5 and Quiggly547 (we just call him
Quiggly though). I look after these Quiggles every day on NeoPets, and
get lots of love and affection back from them too.
Quiggles in the Real World
Now here's the bit where you get to call me mad and wonder
what sort of person is writing this article, but these Quiggles are part
of my real world life as well. They live in my flat, they eat at my table,
they come with me when I go to the shops, or anywhere with a pond! Now
of course I know that they are not real, they don't really exist, but
its so easy to imagine that they are part of the rest of the world, that
I just can't resist doing it. I don't know about you, but I put a lot
of time and effort into my NeoPets, and that carries over into the rest
of my life. If my Quiggle has the bloaties or the Neopox then I feel bad
the rest of the day till I manage to cure it, and if I miss a day online
I worry about my pets getting hungry.
In short my Quiggles follow me into real life, and I
can tell you, they are quite a handful!
Keeping Quiggles
Assuming you are willing to have some Quiggles running
around in your home (and you haven't stopped reading because you think
I am crazy) here are some tips for keeping Quiggles.
If you read about the Quiggles you'll hear that they
love health food, don't you believe it! The fact is that Quiggles love
everything that can be eaten. Flat_head_frog is obsessed with omelettes,
he always wants more, while Hituro wants to eat everything I eat (he named
himself after me, it's quite worrying!). Actually, Quiggles love anything
they can get in their mouths. If you have ever wondered where a Quiggle
keeps its favourite toys then wonder no longer, they keep them in their
mouths, just like they were big pockets.
They do this because Quiggles get bored very easily.
They always want a toy or a book or a game to play with. In many was keeping
a Quiggle is like keeping an overactive toddler, they always want to be
playing, or running, or jumping around. You try getting a Quiggle to sit
and read a book, or watch TV, when they want to play ... you can't! This
is not to say that Quiggles are not smart, my Smoozle has an IQ of 196
now, but they love to play, and run, and splash around in water more than
anything else!
Another thing that Quiggles have in common with small
children is that they love to hug you. Whenever you least expect it they
will jump out from behind a cushion, or come charging into the room, and
leap on you for a hug. Unfortunately they always want to lick your face
as well, and have you seen the size of a Quiggle's tongue! Yuck! Still
you always know that they love you, that's for sure.
The last thing you need to get used to if you have Quiggles
in the house is water. Quiggles are just like frogs, their skin dries
out quite easily, and so they need a lot of water to keep them healthy
and happy. My Quiggles are always in the bath or the sink, and when we
take them out for walks they are always getting into puddles by the sides
of the road. Their favourite places to visit are rivers, streams, ponds
and the beach, where they play in the sea with bouncy balls.
A word of caution though for people taking a newborn
Quiggle home, bowls of soup, washing up water and even the toilet are
all a big temptation for a young Quiggle, make sure they always have their
own water dish to play in and you'll be fine.
Let Quiggles into your life, you won't regret it. |
