A Faerie Tale Gone Wrong

by sorceress_of_stars

Lemonspice_ was a young Meerca who liked to read about and portray the characters of his books. His owner, CairoKat, didn't mind and got her all the books she could get her hands on. Spice liked to read just about any topic there was to read about, except CairoKat was always careful not to buy anything remotely scary, for she didn't think Spice was fit to learn about monsters and demons until he was older.

CairoKat smiled as she watched Spice saunter around the house, depicting the Jetsam model on the cover of How to be a Model. He stopped at random intervals to pose for CairoKat, who giggled as she drew his portrait. Soon some of Spice's friends came over to play in the back yard of their Mystery Island chalet. They pranced around in their game of tag, all avoiding LemonSpice. Spice whirred around the yard, up trees and around bushes, never seeming to run out of energy. Finally, he displayed his talent by tagging one quick Cybunny effortlessly. CairoKat proudly watched her little Meerca. He had just read How to Catch a Cybunny a few weeks ago.

Soon the quintet came inside for a snack of Sparkling Apple Juice and Cheese Tortillas. CairoKat brought out a large bag full of surprises. The pets watched anxiously as she brandished four new books for Spice, and then extracted Click Klacks, a Tent in a Box, a Gumball Machine, a Basketball, and a Blue Bouncy Ball. There was a knock at the door.

"MCM__'s late again!" They all chimed as CairoKat went to answer the door. She looked down enigmatically at a small, strange-looking Uni.

"Can I help you?" she asked. It was certainly not MCM, because MCM was an Aisha.

The others rushed to the door and looked at the Uni in an untrusting way. Spice smiled deviously. Spice grabbed the Uni's horn and yanked. They all glared at Spice like he was crazy, but CairoKat knew Spice knew what he was doing. Before anyone could stop him, he pulled the horn off and the Fake Uni mask with it. Underneath the 100% fake Uni mask was MCM, looking very dissatisfied at being thwarted. MCM was a yellow Aisha who liked to play tricks on everyone. He sighed heavily.

"Well, at least my ears are out again. They were getting all cramped and squished in the mask. But I had you for a second there, didn't I?" Everyone laughed and invited MCM in. They all played with Spice's new toys until they were all tired out. A few hours afterwards, the guests left.

It began to get dark outside. Spice took his books to his reading room to read. His reading room was a bamboo room with a bean bag chair, an Italian recliner, and a green sofa, a wooden bed, and various lamps next to these places. These were all different spots Spice would read for hours until the fresh air in the room was filled with assorted colours of smoke.

CairoKat went to sleep quickly and soundly. She slept until 9:00 am NST and finally woke up with the sun in her eyes. She put on her robe and went to the kitchen to prepare breakfast. She groggily opened up the cabinet and got out a breakfast croissant. She warmed it up in the microwave and went out on the porch to retrieve the latest issue of The Neopian Times. She looked at the front cover in astonishment. The title read, "Millionaire Robberies," CairoKat read on about the article.

Last night, ten Neomillionaires reported begin robbed of half their savings. But this particular crook may not be as villainous as we thought. People found dwelling at the Money Tree received hefty donations last night from a masked pet, of which the species is currently unknown. Witnesses say it had the tail of a Meerca. The ten Neomillionaires' names are currently undisclosed at this time. Stay tuned to The Neopian Times for further updates.

CairoKat stared blankly at the paper for a few more moments, then put it down. She heard an ominous knock at the door. She cowered in fear, and didn't answer for it might be the Meerca coming to rob her of half her savings. Spice got up and entered the kitchen.

"Aren't you going to answer that?" Spice asked in wonder.

"Erm… yes, okay," CairoKat succumbed to Spice's question. But when she answered it, standing at the door was no demon coming to rob her. Hovering over her doormat was an entrancing Light Faerie.

"D-d-do y-you need s-something?" CairoKat stammered. She smiled politely.

"Yes, I do. Can I see that mischievous Meerca of yours please? The Faerie Queen needs to have a word with him," she said with a reassuringly musical voice.

"Um, why of course," CairoKat answered. She hastily took Spice to the door.

"And it might be enlightening if you came too," she said. And with that, she held them as she flew to the city of Faeries.

She took them into the wondrous Hidden Tower where the Faerie Queen sat, a magnificent beauty watching serenely over her artifacts.

"I see you have come." She acknowledged them. "Please, come forward. I will bring no harm to you." And so they stepped forth.

"Ah, Spice. You are proud of yourself now, and you have every right. But robbing those millionaires was wrong." At this, CairoKat's jaw dropped. She was speechless. "I know you were just trying to be like Robin Lupe, as you read last night, but there are some characters which are better not to pretend to be. I would like you to choose ten items from my collection to give to the ten millionaires you robbed, and apologise profoundly. I'm sure you would not like it if someone robbed your family, right?"

"NO, ma'am. I thought I was doing the right thing. But I will comply. I will do as you have told me, but I ask that my name not to be revealed. I feel enough shame already." Spice hung his head low. He spoke with such maturity that CairoKat could not believe.

"And as for you, CairoKat, I think it is time you introduced LemonSpice_ to the world of NeoPets, and teach him right and wrong. Read with him, and make sure he understands NeoPets well." After that, they left in a journey of apologies to the millionaires and the delivery of artifacts. The millionaires forgave him.

And so after that, CairoKat and Spice read books together, about monsters, the Battledome, the Thieves Guild and other topics. Spice only acted out the characters in small ways, like stealing food and pretending to be the Pant Devil, but always giving it back.

And so, Neopia lived happily ever after, especially Spice and his friends with his new Tent in a Box.
