How to Become a Famous Neopian by casth1 | |
NEOPIA CENTRAL - If you, like many Neopians, secretly desire some level of fame
within Neopets, whether it's being known by some people as a nice person, or the
other extreme of being a full-scale celebrity with your username in lights, this
guide is for you. I'll be taking you through the various degrees of fame attainable,
and giving you some ideas for how to achieve them. Some may be a little crazy
but hey, you've gotta be prepared to do some mad things if you want to be a NeoCelebrity!
Level One: 15 minutes of fame
If you're happy with a short spell in the sun, there are many options available
to you. For some localised fame, you could join a smallish guild. The longer
you stay and the more you participate, the more other guild members will know
and remember you and the more famous you will become within the guild. You could
even set up your own, and if it becomes reasonably popular, you'll be automatically
famous as the guild leader (among the members, anyway). Or why not try a game
high score list? Your username can remain on one of these lists for up to a
month, and if you're really good you'll even get a trophy. No good at games?
No problem. There's always the Neoboards - if you use a rare avatar there, or
start a really popular thread, you'll get a horde of Neopetters posting messages
to you, inundating you with Neofriend requests and generally being your fans
for a while.
Fun stuff! But what's that? You want more? Well, OK, read on…
Level Two: Minor Celebrity status
So, you've put your name on some high score lists and earned a temporary band
of followers. Feeling disheartened that your game score will be wiped on the
first of the month? Supporters deserting you for a new Neoboard star sporting
an even flashier avatar? Worry not.
For a more lasting shrine to the greatness that is your username, how about
a Battledome one-player high score list? These live forever and are never wiped,
all you have to do is beat an opponent enough times to make the list. Some lists
are easier to get on than others - Boochi and the Tax Beast, for example, are
fairly easy because they're rare challengers, so not as many people have fought
them enough times to get on the list. This of course is impossible if you don't
have the challenger yourself, so if this is the case you may have to try one
of the harder lists. Some other high score lists, like the Neoboard Avatar Collector
one and the Multiplayer Tournaments' Top 100 Players lists, last forever as
well, so getting yourself onto one of these is also helpful to achieving fame.
Or, you could find a pretty big guild, one of the better-known ones, and work
hard to be a familiar face (well, username anyway) amongst the members. The
more helpful you are and the more you participate in the guild's activities,
the better known you'll become, and if it's a really famous guild then middle-scale
fame should eventually come your way. But I'm sure you were working hard to
be nice to as many people as possible anyway, right?
Large-scale retailers, i.e. people with big shops which are visited often
by bargain-hunters will become well known gradually, so if you're good at restocking
and enjoy buying and selling, this could be the route to moderate Neo-stardom
for you. Joining or founding a Neocircle will help to publicise your shop, as
will the Shop Wizard when people search for an item you stock.
Another option would be attempting one of the many large-scale contests, such
as the Poetry Competition, one of the Spotlights (Site, Pet, Gallery...), Pirate
Cave of the Week... depending on which one you achieve, you may get your username
in New Features (wow!), and not only will your name be there in the news archives
for all time, it'll also be on the Past Winners pages of the contest(s) you
won. Cool hey?
Ah, so you're still not satisfied. Let's continue in the quest for superstardom,
then..
Level Three: Famous
This is the big time. I won't pretend that becoming a Neopets A-lister is
easy, but it's definitely possible if you're willing to work a little, dahling.
People with gigantic pets are always household names in terms of Neopets.
This is perhaps because a bigger pet helps you get onto more Battledome high
score lists, gives you the chance of making the top 10/50/100 pets lists on
some of the Neopets fansites, makes you a role model for other players, or perhaps
because you might be lucky enough to deliver the final blow to the big guy at
the end of a Neo-war and be hailed as a hero for all time.
So having a big pet is a good start. You could also try having loads and loads
of trophies, because for this you'll have to have made lots of high score lists
over time and had your username spotted by the general Neopian public. Plus,
as word gets round about your big pet and endless trophies, your fanbase will
grow.
Now that more people are visiting your lookup, it'll help to prettify it a
bit. Add some slick HTML and some generally good-looking features like backgrounds
and nice fonts, and people will automatically enjoy gazing at your lookup. They're
then more likely to remember it (and how can you be famous if people don't remember
you?) -they may even direct others to it to marvel at its stunningness.
Anyway, before we continue our walk down the Neopets hall of fame, a word
of warning. Some people in the quest for Neo-recognition resort to desperate
measures. For example, they might put up expensive items on the trading post
just for show, make a flashy gallery and generally flaunt their wealth. This
is a very bad idea. For one thing it'll backfire, as people will be either
jealous or annoyed at your conduct, and for another it'll attract the wrong
kind of attention.
Now that that's out of your mind, let's move on to the highest of the high…
Level Four: Top-rank NeoSuperStardom
I warn you, this is very difficult to achieve and the only way to get there
is by doing something mad and outlandish.
The ultimate level of fame on the Neopets site is that of Neostaff. The staff
accounts get flooded with page views on their lookups and people speculate about
them on the Neoboards. So, you want this to be you? Well, if you're sure..
To become Neostaff you have to (and I advise you to sit down and take a deep
breath now)… work for Neopets. Yes, I said work. So, if you're happy
relocating to the Neopets headquarters and treating the site as work rather
than play, having to actually draw the characters rather than just marvel at
their beauty, and generally miss out on playing the site, then go for it. But
if, like the rest of us, this all sounds like too much effort, then why not
forget it and go back to being a normal Neopian? Fame really isn't that exciting,
and besides, there's a really great discussion about Borovan starting on the
Neoboards…
