Pet Name: Kharlos
Owner: cranberrypudding
Breed: Kacheek

About Kharlos:
That story wasn't a myth. It's true. Well, sort of. That one about a Kacheek that became edible one day because he was cursed by Jhudora? Everyone thought it was made up in some playground years ago. Well, I know the whole story now because I was lucky enough to pick up Kharlos from the pound. He is the biscuit Kacheek of legend. And he told me his story...

You see, Kharlos wasn't ever painted Biscuit in his life. He became a biscuit Kacheek. Well, I think he slowly became one anyway. He claims he was born that way. But what Neopet is born biscuit?

The real story does not involve curses or faeries, battles or lost lives. It's a simple story of an abandoned Kacheek who spent years dreaming of becoming the best chef in Neopia.

Kharlos was created almost ten years ago. He was a red Kacheek and he recalls his past owner coming in once a week to tend to his shop. He never played with Kharlos, never fed him nor gave him a toy. Kharlos would stare idly at the inventory beside him. He would see things like Ummagines and Neggs. He would salivate at the sight of Joints of Ham and his favorite item, Chocopie Slices. Kharlos' past owner owned a food shop and he loved to restock food items. Kharlos saw them all - from Plum Crunch Cereal to Dargil Meat! The only problem was Kharlos was never, not once, given any.

Years had passed, and Kharlos had already turned blue from hunger and loneliness. He doesn't remember where he came across the idea - but one day he decided to simply escape with his mind. He might be stuck in a drab existence in Neopia, but in his mind, he would make up many adventures. He spent his days daydreaming of a different life! He would stare at the different food items in his owner's shop and he would imagine what they would taste like. He would concoct combinations and dishes in his head based on the colors and smells he encountered!

One day, Kharlos noticed he was all alone. There has been no movement anywhere. His owner had been gone for weeks. Even if he never paid attention to his lone Kacheek, Kharlos would look forward to him coming weekly. At least he had something to watch when the owner was around. But then weeks turned to months, and months to years. Kharlos was stuck in an abandoned account!

He decided to go to sleep. He dreamt of his most favorite thing - food! He dreamt of one day being in a home where he could eat food and make food and share his love of food with the world! Years had passed and all Kharlos ever thought of was food.

Kharlos doesn't know where or when or how it happened but one day, a brilliant white light shone on him. He was weak with hunger and livid with thoughts of delectable delights! He was in a crowded room.. He was... in the Neopian Pound! He had no clue how, but someone shrieked to see him, yes him, and nabbed him right away.

Of course that person is me. I found Kharlos in the pound that day. And it was I who screamed with delight as I thought he was the perfect find! Kharlos the Biscuit Kacheek!

It's been days since he has come home, and all Kharlos does is eat. He speaks a lot in between bites, though. Mostly about food. Every item he looks for, I get him. It's almost like a new quest or daily! But how can I resist? Poor thing has such a tragic story.

Kharlos dreams of one day owning and running a restaurant bigger than Kelp. He has eaten there six times now, and he is so appreciative it is worth the neopoints.

He insists nobody painted him biscuit. He said he dreamed it and it came true! He told me about his years alone, imagining being in a kitchen… The power of the mind is quite boggling. Was he purged? Who painted him? Who pounded him? The circumstances matter much to him, but little to me.

All I know is that right now, he is one of my most favorite Neopets!
