Flower of Faerie by ieva_kasku | |

It was midday in a small forest west of Neopia Central.
High in a tree, a green Shoyru mother lay protectively on her clutch of 13 eggs.
There were humans abroad in the forest. They stole the eggs of wild Neopets
and took them to the west, to the Great City. So she covered her nest with her
great wings, and lay silent, hoping that she would not be seen. But a fly landed
upon her nose then, and she shook her head to get rid of the annoyance. But
this alerted the humans to her presence, and they all converged upon her tree
and put up ladders. She dove at them, shrieking, hoping to frighten them away.
It didn't work. The humans merely threw a dart at her, stunning her and causing
her to fall to the forest floor. They got the eggs down and put them into a
sack, which they put on the back of their Uni partner. Then they left, heading
for the Create-a-Pet center, where the eggs would hatch and be given to owners.
They were still in the forest when a wild
cobrall slithered under the feet of the Uni. She reared in fright, for she hated
snakes. The bag containing the eggs fell off of her back and three eggs fell
out. The humans got two, but the last rolled into a patch of ferns and lay hidden
from view. The humans did not notice and went on their way. A short while later,
an Earth Faerie who was taking a walk in the forest stumbled upon it and took
it back to her home. There she cared for it until it hatched. It was a green
female, and she became the flower of the Earth Faerie, and so came her name,
Flower_of_Icetor.

3 Months Later...
This is the best place in the world, I thought, as I flew over the pond near
my home. I can't wait for mom to get home from Faerie Quests; she always has
presents for me. Maybe we'll get a visit from another Faerie, that's always
fun.
In this way my happy and carefree young
months passed. My mom would usually bring me things she got from the quests
she gave people. But what people were, I did not know. Maybe if I had known,
things would have gone differently. But my mom refused to tell me. I guess she
wanted me to always be happy and innocent, not knowing of the cruelty and hardship
outside the borders of our forest. But that would soon change.
One day I was out looking for the delicious
berries that grew in the forest. I went farther than I had intended, to the
edge of the forest. But I found a large patch of berries, and ate quite a few.
But I was unaware of being observed. A young boy was watching me from the bushes.
He had no pet; the pets in the Create-A-Pet Center were too soft and tame. He
wanted a wild pet, a fighter that would beat everything in the Battledome. He
saw me, and decided that I was perfect for his plans, not knowing that I was
in fact very peaceful, despite my high stats. But I did not see him, and decided
to come back the next day, for the berries here were very good and juicy. So
I went home to find that mom had gotten a Faerie in a bottle. I had never understood
how anyone could imprison a Faerie, and I had heard of the horrible monster
Balthazar. I would always tell the faeries that they didn't have to bless me,
but they would stay at our house to recover sometimes. This one didn't, she
had only been in the bottle since yesterday she told us. And so I went to sleep,
not knowing what would await me the next day.
After mom had left, I flew back to the
berry patch I had found yesterday. I looked for some good berries and I saw
a really big one over on the edge of the patch, near a large bush. I walked
forward eagerly. I'm not really sure what happened next. One second I'm walking,
the next second I'm being wrestled to the ground by something much bigger than
me. I yelled and screamed until the something put a muzzle on me. Then it bound
my wings and blindfolded me. It carried me a long way, then put me down and
took the blindfold off. We were outside a large house. I didn't get much of
a look around, though, because I was being roughly dragged inside. Once the
thing had closed and locked the door, my wings were unbound and the muzzle taken
off. I promptly bit it and took flight, hovering around the ceiling. I had guessed
that this creature was a human. He cursed and told me that he was my new master.
This puzzled me, for I had always been free to go where I wished. He commanded
me to come down, or else. I was frightened, and did what he said. When I landed,
he grabbed my leg so that I couldn't fly, and then forced a collar over my head.
I immediately felt that I was now bound to him and could not escape. My wings
drooped; I wanted to go home. But that was now impossible. The boy read the
name that had appeared on the collar.
"Flower_of_Icetor?" he sneered, "What
a dumb name, but oh well, time to go to the Battledome!"
I wondered what the Battledome was. I
soon found out. He equipped me with all sorts of expensive weapons, which I
did not want, for I was a peaceful spirit. Then we entered the building. The
first challenger he signed me up for was the Snowager. It beat me in two turns.
He just gave me a healing potion and sent me up against the Brain Tree. A while
later, after losing to every challenger, I was sore and aching, with 0 hp. The
boy didn't even bother to heal me; he just took me to the pound and abandoned
me. Alone in a cold, dark cage, I cried and cried. People walked by, looked
at me, and kept going. I watched the pets with the better coats and high levels
get adopted immediately. I found that the ones with the fancy coats were what
was called 'painted', and that this was highly valued by the people.
I was there for days and days; no one
even considered adopting me. Then she came. She was called ieva_kasku, and she
had no pet. She was tall with short blonde hair and blue eyes. She searched,
but none of the other pets seemed to be right for her. Then she stopped at my
cage. I looked into her eyes, and saw kindness in them. She only paused for
a moment before adopting me. She took me to the front desk, and the pink Uni
gave her a collar with my name on it. She took it, and we walked outside. Her
NeoHome was only one room, and she didn't have much NP, but she was kind. She
looked at the collar, and put it on me gently, and told me that if I ever wanted
to, she would take it off and I would be free to go. But I chose to stay with
her. I knew that I would be all right now.
