Good-bye Mel Transcribed: Part Three

by Neo_Petter_Katherine

Read this story from the beginning!

During the week, John and Marina worked hard as secretaries of monetary affair in their Kyrii guild. Whilst they may have been fourth and fifth in the council, it made the Kyrii feel important. The guild had four thousand members and her owners, not parents Mel concluded, were on the council in plain view of everybody.

During the weekend there was a raffle draw for a Faerie Paintbrush, and every week the winner was somebody aside Marina, aside John. One week Marina won Neopkins that she didn’t need, but Marina kept them (just in case).

This week, the guild leader, Kyrii_Owner_Guild_Leader, drew names from a hat: Third place, Spoon_Collector, Neopkins. Second Place: Neo1211231, A Stone Paint Brush. And this week’s grand prize Faerie paintbrush winner is MARINA! Congratulations!

Marina screamed and collected her prize with enthusiasm. Spoon_Collector took her picture. Marina painted Mel as a Faerie, and Mel was so proud of her newly acquired wings that every day she went flying in Faerieland, proudly spreading her wings to proximity. She hugged Marina every night and thanked her for the paint job, but still the longing that Mel remembered filled her body, filled her heart and filled her mind.

Every day, Mel could almost hear Heather’s voice speaking to her in the way it always had: soft, perfect, loving. She said, "I love you, M--" but suddenly the sound of Heather saying, “Good-bye, Mel," filled Mel’s head and she was forced to shake every word loose.

After two months with John and Marina, Mel had become a Super Genius (52) and has beat everybody who challenged her in the Battledome. She forgot Zack, she forgot John. She remembered Heather longingly.

“Marina?” inquired Mel. Marina walked into the room. They no longer slept in the guild dormitory, but they slept now in their own eighteen room house.

“Coming, darling! Oh, your pretty Princess Dress and White Gloves have dirt on them. John: go buy a Princess Dress and some White Gloves!”

John nodded and ran outside. Mel tucked back her Faerie wings.

“I want to go back to Mom.” Mel said, pulling back her ears. Marina pulled back in surprise.

“Don’t you like it here? Don’t you like John and I?”

“I do, I do, and I’ll always remember you, but...there’s something about Heather that makes me want to be with her. She’s my creator, she’s my true mother, and I guess that’s something I need.”

Marina turned away, and when she managed to look again at her daughter her eyes were teary.

“I guess I understand. JOHN! Come here, and bring a suitcase!”

“No, don’t,” Mel said. “I don’t need to bring anything with me-I’d prefer not to, really,” said Mel. “Just bring me to the cliff side.”

John drove her to the cliff overhanging all of Neopia and silently handed Mel the sun hat she had first worn when they met her. She pulled off her Princess Dress and White Gloves and pulled the sun hat on and tied it up. She threw her arms around each of her owners in turn and walked towards the cliffside. She spread her wings and felt the updraft catch in them. She leapt into the sky and, flapping vigorously towards the sinking sun, heard, "I love you Mel, from Heather."

“Good-bye, Mel,” said Marina, her voice filled with love and the regret of losing such a remarkable creature.

Mel turned and remembered the words that Heather had said. They were the same words: Good-bye, Mel. But these ones had sounded so different.

“Good-bye, Mel,” repeated Marina. Mel was almost too far away to hear the words, but she did, and she held onto them with her heart, and played them over in her head as she flew forever towards the sky, and she played them over and over during her journey because their sound pushed Mel on her way. Good-bye, Mel. Good-bye.

The End

Author's Note: I’d like to thank the owners/pets whose names I used in this story. I would like to thank Mel, who left us peacefully last year, for the inspiration of writing this story. I would also like to thank Dr_Death for letting me use the setting of is pound in a drastic part of Mel’s story. This story was dedicated to my guild, *The Mid-Evil Time Guild*, owned by Princessroxane.
