Getting Far in Neopia: Episode II - Places of Interest

by stal0s

NEWBIE CENTRAL - Greetings fellow Neopians! Once more, I bring you an article of how to make it in Neopia. This week's issue deals with Places of Interest in the world of Neopia.

I know that last time I stated it would be dealing with exploring the land…well that's just too large a subject. I've narrowed it down to the more interesting places in the land. Places you should become very familiar with. Now, don't get too offended with this article if you already know all these things and places; after all it is a week later, and I'd have expected you to explore some.

On with the article :)

Neopia Central

Neopia Central is the first stop in our journey of interesting places. Neopia Central can be located very easily by clicking on the 'Shops' link, or the 'Explore' link and finding it from there. There are four places I want you to become very familiar with: The National Neopian Bank, The Money Tree, the Neolodge, and the ever-important Shop Wizard.

The National Neopian Bank
You'll find this on the top link bar, and on the main shops menu. I want you to look around until you find it, as I don't particularly know how to describe to you how to find it.

Now, if you haven't already been here, then you'll be asked to start up a bank account. Go ahead and do so. Don't worry about the address and occupation lines. Just fill it with anything. Now you've got a bank account started for you to save your NP in. This may or may not be good for you, depending on whether or not you'll do anything with it. Don't worry about an initial deposit for now; we'll cover that in the next article.

While you're there, it's best you become familiar with everything. Here's a short guide to that:

Account Type: What type of account you currently have. The difference in types involved the minimum amount of NP you have to keep in there, and the interest rate.

Current Balance: How much NP you currently have in the bank.

(Account Type) Interest Rate: Whatever percentage rate goes with your account. The percentage rate determines how much interest you get from the total amount you have in.

Yearly Interest: This is, supposedly, how much NP you'll earn through interest in a year. However, seeing how they round down, and don't do fractions, it's not very truthful.

Deposit Neopoints: Type in here to deposit some NP.

Withdraw Neopoints: Type in here to withdraw some of your saved NP.

Collect Daily Interest: You have to collect interest manually. Click here to earn it.

In addition, at the bottom is the option to change account type.

The Money Tree
This can be located in the main shops, as well as the top link bar. It's the big tree. Not much to do here except donate things, or receive a donation. When you get on your feet, I suggest you donate every now and then.

Don't bother trying to get an item unless you have a high-speed Internet connection. They're the people that get the items, unfortunately.

The Neolodge
This is a very important place in the world of Neopia. Here, you can book your pet into a hotel to be taken care of while you're on vacation, or without computer access. It is a wonderful feature on Neopets.

The Shop Wizard
You can locate the Shop Wizard by clicking on the Wizard hat on the upper link bar. If you type in an item here, you can locate different shops selling that item throughout Neopia. Isn't he cool? This is generally a way of finding a cheaper price than the official store.

Mystery Island

Mystery Island is number one on list when it comes to the number of interesting places. You can locate it through the "Explore" link at the sidebar. I shall now stop stating that to avoid redundancy.

Island Mystic
Psychotic fool, or genius? No one knows for sure. Stop by to get your fortune every day. Rumour has it, if he tells you you'll find something, or have luck somewhere, you will. I've never had it happen to me, though.

Haiku Generator
Contemplate these deep, nonsensical poems. You'll get a different haiku every day. Some are thought provoking, while others are just downright nonsense. You decide.

Tombola
This is a nice place. Mr. Tiki-Tack Man has done a daily free game where if you draw a number ending in a zero (0), two (2), or five (5), you win Neopoints and a prize, or prizes! Even if you don't win, you'll still get some island merchandise, and sometimes a little extra NP.

Training School
This is the place you want to visit to increase your pet's stats. You'll have to pay in codestones, and you won't know which type to pay with until enrolled (class won't start until you pay, either). In addition, codestones sell for around three thousand (3,000) Neopoints Hold off, and also wait until you're sure you want to participate in the Battledome.

Trading Post
Got an item you don't want? Well, you can trade your item here! Set up a trade lot, and wait for any offers. Alternatively, you can make an offer on someone else's trade. Watch out for scammers, though. However, I prefer to just use a shop (covered in Episode III). Just consider all options available.

Lost Desert

The Lost Desert was found when Brucey B. (A Bruce, in species) went chasing his lost coin. Well, now the Lost Desert is a nice place to go at least once a day, to visit two places. The Fruit Machine and Coltzan's Shrine.

Fruit Machine
The Fruit Machine is similar to Tombola, in the fact it's a free daily thing. Give the wheel a spin once a day, and see if you win a prize. Rumours tell me you can win a lot of Neopoints and paint brushes through this 'game'.

Coltzan's Shrine
This is something else along the lines of the Fruit Machine and Tombola. Here, you can pay your respects to dearly departed King Coltzan III. His spirit still inhabits the obelisk shrine, so when you visit, he may give you some food, Neopoints, heal your pet, or even raise one of its stats. Don't expect something every time, though, as usually nothing will happen.

Krawk Island

Krawk Island is a pirate-infested land of Neopia. Despite the pirate infestations, it is a nice little place to go. There are two main places I'd like to point out for you to remember: The Academy, and Buried Treasure.

The Academy
This school is an alternative to the Mystery Island Training School. Run by Cap'n Threelegs, your pet can raise its stats. There are a few differences, though. The main is that you pay in dubloons, not codestones. That's nice as dubloons are generally cheaper. In addition, you know what you have to pay ahead of time. Another difference is that he will only train pets that are lower than Level 40. That's not too bad. Cap'n also trains your pet for free on special days.

Buried Treasure
This is a nice new…'game' that came out recently. You lay down two hundred (200) Neopoints, for a chance to win the game pot. All you have to do is click on a ticket, and if you win…well you can win a lot. As I type this, the record win was somewhere around four and a half million Neopoints (4,500,000). When you have the money to spare, why not give it a shot?

Faerieland

Faerieland is one of the more unique lands, what with floating on a cloud and all. In addition, it had two areas that need to be visited whenever the time limits allow.

Wheel of Excitement
The Wheel of Excitement is a nice little chance 'game'. You spin a wheel for one hundred (100) Neopoints and see what you can get. You can earn NP, Items, or get hurt or an item stolen. Not too bad a ratio, though. Give it a spin.

Healing Springs
In my opinion, this is one of the coolest spots in Neopia. You can visit every forty-five (45) minutes or so, and heal your pets. The water faerie will feed your pets, heal any sickness they may have, or give you a healing item…she is truly cool.

Tyrannia

Tyrannia. The land history and time forgot (and I believe the Neopets team has forgotten the Tyrannian Paint Brush. I haven't seen a pet suddenly available for the Tyrannian colour scheme for quite a while). Anyhow, this land has two places of interest. Only one would I recommend.

Giant Omelette
This place is spiff. Three items of food (If you recall last week's article, I mentioned it could be split into thirds, so I count one full omelette, being three food items), once a day, for free? Oh yeah, it's cool. Stop by daily for your free omelette slice. Sometimes the omelette will be gone. If that is the case, check back in an hour or so; it won't be gone forever.

You'll find the Giant Omelette on the Tyrannian Plateau, in case you've forgot.

Wheel of Mediocrity
Blarg. This is sort of like the Wheel of Excitement, just not as exciting. You pay 50 NP for a chance to win lower amounts of NP (I believe there are two cases where you can earn more…), get hurt, cheap food, or cheap Petpets. I don't recommend it.

The Wheel of Mediocrity is in the Tyrannian Jungle, which is the main page of Tyrannia.

Terror Mountain

Terror Mountain is a very interesting place. There are four places you might want to get to know, up on this winter world.

Advent Calendar
This neat little thing is in Happy Valley, which is the main page for Terror Mountain. During the Month of Celebrating (December), drop by here once a day for some NP and a gift of some sort. It's a nice gesture from the Neopets team.

The Garage Sale
The garage sale is up on the Terror Mountain map of…Terror Mountain. Bit redundant, eh? Anyhow, the garage sale is run by two Chias, which want to move, but first they have to sell all their stuff. It appears they have a lot of stuff, as they restock several times a day, and have been doing so for far more than a year.

Head on up there, and if you see something you like, buy it. I don't suggest the Petpets, though, as they are cheaper on the Shop Wizard.

Snowager
The Snowager is a snake made entirely of ice, located within the Ice Caves of Terror Mountain. He is like a dragon, in the sense that he has a huge horde of stuff. At certain times during the day, you can go in there and attempt to snatch something from his pile of treasure. Those certain times are when he's sleeping. Attempt it at your own risk, as if he wakes up and catches you, you're very likely to be blasted and need a trip to the Healing Springs.

There are certain ethical debates on this, also. One of them being that you're doing nothing but stealing from a poor creature with a bad reputation. Others state he's nothing more than an animal that steals things from the denizens of Neopia, so it's okay to take things from him. I'm not going to preach on either case; I'll leave that to the philosophers, just be warned.

Scratchcard Kiosk
This is one more interesting place in Neopia. It's located right next to the Snowager's cave, so you should be able to find it from there.

Here, you can buy a scratchcard for six hundred (600) NP. From there, you can choose to scratch it, in hopes of winning more NP. It's sort of like those lottery cards you see people buying. It's up to you on whether you should risk the Neopoints or not, as it may pay off big.

In Conclusion…

As you can tell, there are many interesting places throughout the land. There are others that some people may think I should've mentioned, but didn't. With this being said, I suggest you explore every nook-and-cranny of this world, as you may find something you really like.

I hope you enjoyed part two of my series. Join me next time when I cover another subject you may want to read about in: GFN: Episode III: Attack of the Clowns.
