I was just sitting on a bench in the park doing my homework and minding my
own business, when this red Peophin comes along and yells at me, "Hey, Aisha!
Move it!"
I was not in his way, nor was I in the way of another incoming pet. But the
Peophin comes up to me and tells me to move again. In a completely calm and
civilised manner, I tell the rude pet to get a life and to stop harassing members
of the public.
"We don't welcome desert pets here," he said.
"Excuse me, I think you mean, you don't welcome desert pets here." Nobody
else seemed to have noticed this demented individual, but a few normal pets
were staring at me. So I decided to leave. I thought it was very rude of the
Peophin to yell at me like that. It was truly prejudice of him to be so mean
because I was a desert pet. I was very proud of my golden ears and tanned skin,
and no way was some dumb pet like him going to push me around like that. Then
I realised that Snuffs, my faithful Abominable Snowball, who was sitting next
to me on the bench, was gone.
The first thing I did was head back to the bench. Snuffs was nowhere to be
seen, and neither was the Peophin. I then asked a few passerbys if they had
seen a little snowman wearing a toque and a scarf, or a Peophin with severe
issues. Nobody had, although one guy said he had seen a screeching ball of slush
headed towards Terror Mountain at a alarming rate. That was probably Snuffs,
deciding to take a visit to his native land.
Actually, Snuffs was from the Haunted Woods, but I liked to pretend he was
from Terror Mountain because Halloween pets aren't highly regarded in today's
society. I took the ski lift to Terror Mountain's summit, but the blue Peophin
sitting next to me pushed me off, and I rolled all the way down the hill. Do
all Peophins hate me or something? What did I do?
So I got on the lift again, making sure to sit next to anyone but a Peophin.
I ended up sitting next to a girl who looked a lot like the Battle Faerie.
"Hello," I said politely, because it isn't nice to pretend not to able to
talk when sitting next to someone who looks like a Faerie.
"Hey, sup?" she said, leaning against the little metal bar thingy that was
attached to the cable that the lift was traveling on.
"Nothing. I'm looking for my pet, and all these Peophins are being mean to
me."
"Oh, cool," she said, and looked down at the skiing pets. "I never really
liked Peophins."
"Neither do I now," I said, and told her about the yellow one that had harassed
me in the park.
"You should put a spell on them."
"Like what? The only good spell I know is to make Magic Berries appear out
of nowhere."
"You could try using- Oh no!" the girl said, standing, making the lift rock,
and shielding her eyes from the sun. Overhead, a bunch of black dots were flying.
"Hey, I think it's Buzzes!" I cried, standing up too. "I didn't know there
were so many! The Buzz isn't exactly a favoured pet."
"It's an attack, headed towards Faerie Land!" She spread a pair of beige and
purple wings. Now I knew for sure she was the Battle Faerie.
"Oh, that's uh... terrible. Who do you think is behind it?" I asked.
"Listen, can you help?" she said, completely ignoring my question. "I need
you to find Legacy, my horse. Will you do that for me?"
"Sure," I said.
"Thanks, Legacy is my most trusted warrior," the Battle Faerie gushed, and
flew off in the direction of the Buzzes, drawing her sword and disappearing
in a matter of seconds.
Now I had to find Snuffs and Legacy. Great. I didn't even know what this horse
looked like. But I knew what Snuffs looked like, and he was my main concern.
When I finally reached the top of Terror Mountain, it was freezing! My white
summer clothes were fine for the Lost Desert, but they were not suitable for
the blinding blizzard that was raging constantly on the VERY high top of Neopia's
largest mountain.
I couldn't make out the shapes of the buildings that I knew were nearby. I
was lost in white maze of coldness. My bare paws were turning purple. I thought
I would stumble on forever, until a kind voice said, "Here, have a coat, my
child."
I looked up and blinked the snowflakes out of my eyes. A black haired woman
in a light blue parka was holding out a pink coat, similar to her own, to me.
I gratefully accepted her gift.
"Thanks," I said, and put it on.
"Come into my house," she said, and led me into a log cabin.
Inside, it was very cozy. A roaring fire was lit in the fire place, and overstuffed
couches were arranged in a circle around it. There were pictures of pets, mostly
Bruces, on the walls.
I hung up my coat on a hook, and sank down into one of the chairs. The kind
lady went into the kitchen, and soon I could smell the warm scent of hot chocolate
wafting in.
The kind lady came in with a mug of hot chocolate and a plate of cookies.
She set it down on the coffee in front of me, then sat down across from me and
folding her white hands on her snowflake print dress.
"Now, child, tell me why you were wandering around in a snowstorm all alone,"
she asked gently.
I told her about looking for Snuffs and Legacy.
"So you're on a quest for my sister, eh?" she asked. "Oh, by the way, I'm
the Snow Faerie, but you can call me Neige. You are....?"
"KiwiBonk. You can call me KB."
"Oh, I see. You're that little pet who was put under a spell by Noire, weren't
you?" she said, leaning forward a little.
"Who's Noire? You mean the Faerie of Darkness?"
"Yes, oh, was that you? How dreadful!"
"Yeah... well, can you help me find Snuffs?" I said.
"Oh, sure, dear. Just follow me." Neige got up and led me into another room,
with walls made of ice or something, with only a pedestal in the middle. I grabbed
a bunch of cookies and took them with me. I was dismayed to see that they were
made of ice, and quite inedible.
"You have a crystal ball?" I asked.
"Well, actually, I prefer to call it a Seeing Sphere," Neige explained,
holding the palms of her hands out to the glowing ball on the pedestal. "Don't
tell my sisters, either. They would disapprove of this... petty magic."
"How does it work?" But Neige didn't answer; she was too absorbed in looking
in the Seeing Sphere. I waited for several minutes. She was in a kind of trance,
staring into the depths of the Sphere. While I was waiting, I explored the rest
of her house. She had a really nice sauna beside her bedroom. That was my kind
of temperature. Her kitchen was nice and homey looking, as was the rest of her
house. There weren't very many rooms, only about five, and one of them was a
storage room full of the weirdest herbs I've ever seen.
Anyway, after a while, she 'woke up'.
"Your pet Abominable Snowball is on Mystery Island," said Neige. I thanked
her for her kindness, and she offered me a ride to the bottom of Terror Mountain
in her sleigh, pulled by a Blue Uni.
It was a very fast ride, as most of it was a 90 degree slope. At the bottom,
I thanked her again, and she said that it was no problem. I immediately boarded
a boat headed for Mystery Island.
The first place I decided to check out was the Island Mystic. He would probably
know where Snuffs is.
"You will meet an unexpected ally at the Tombola," the grass skirt-clad old
man said.
"What?" I yelled.
"Next," he said, and two Kougras dragged me out of his hut.
The only person at the Tombola was the Tombola man. He wouldn't be much of
an ally; he's too fat to be much help looking for Snuffs. But maybe he knew
where I could find Legacy!
"No, never 'aired of 'er," the Tombola Man said when I asked him about
Legacy.
"Hey, how'd you know Legacy was a 'her'?" I asked him as I drew a Tombola
ticket.
"Uh... 52! You are a winner!" the fat man wearing a mask shouted. "You get
345 Neopoints and this..." He held out an Abominable Snowball.
"Snuffs!?" I screamed.
"HEEEEEE!!!!!" my beloved pet screeched.
"Oh, sorry, wrong prize," said the Tombola man. He put Snuffs under the counter,
and brought forth a seaweed pie.
"Hey, that's my pet!" I yelled. "I lost him! Give him back!"
"No, sorry, take your prize."
"But Snuffs! Snuffs is mine!"
"I'm sorry miss, but this pet belongs to me now. If you want him back, you'll
have to come back tomorrow and try to win him. Now please, get out of the way,
I have some more customers."
"But, someone will win him by then!" I pleaded. "Please give him back!"
"No, sorry miss."
A sudden thought occurred to me. "Listen, buddy, you don't want to make me
mad," I said. Already I could feel my eyes glowing, and my body growing bigger.
"Ah, miss... please leave the area immediately! Miss!" Ever since my soul
was consumed by the Faerie of Darkness a while ago, whenever I get mad, I go
berserk. My body gets big, my eyes glow, and my skin turns purple. I start casting
all these spells I didn't know I had. So I have to be careful.
"Give Snuffs back!" I demanded with clenched teeth.
"All right, I'll give him back!" My body returned to its normal size and colour.
"But it's against the rules, so you have to do a little favour for me."
"I'm listening," I said, thinking that was very witty of me.
"You must get a Crystal Boomerang for me, to put in my shop."
"What? That's-"
He must have pressed his security button, because then two Techos came and
threw me out. I lay there in the dirt, thinking, "This blows. I have to find
Legacy and a Crystal Boomerang, to get Snuffs back. Joy."
Then I remembered my unexpected ally. I felt someone touch my shoulder. I
looked up, expecting to see an Uber Faerie, or some heroic looking Lupe wearing
a red cape. Instead, I saw Fluzzyface the little yellow Poogle, crouched beside
me.
"KiwiBonk," she said in her tiny voice. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine," I said, standing up and dusting myself off. "I just tripped.
So, how are you?"
"I'm lost," Fluzzy said, hanging her head.
"Same with Snuffs and the Battle Faerie's horse." I told her. I quickly explained
my search.
"If I help you look for Legacy and a Crystal Boomerang, will you help me find
my owner, Krista?"
"Sure."
The two of us set off to Faerie Land, where the Battle Faerie's horse probably
was. Also, the Hidden Tower was there too, and there were Crystal Boomerangs
in there. We might be able to bum one off the Faerie Queen.
Faerie Land was busy as usual. Faeries, owners, and pets alike were milling
around everywhere. There seemed to be some sort of festival, with booths offering
free delicacies and desserts stationed all around. But Fluzzy and I had a mission.
We headed, without stopping once, right to Faerie City. There, we stopped
in front of the Faerie Queen's palace.
"All right, all we have to do is go into the Hidden Tower," I said.
"Right," said Fluzzy. "Do you know where it is?"
"No, I was hoping you would."
"Oh no," said Fluzzy, holding her little paws up to her face.
Oh no was right. We came all this way, and we didn't even know where the stupid
place was! But we could still find Legacy! That horse was bound to be around
here somewhere.
