I am a frequent patroniser of the General
Chat board, being a quirky place where people talk about absolutely
everything and nothing at all. Filled with unintelligible gibberish and acronyms,
what make this board so fun yet infuriating? Since NeoPets have been moving
servers and stuff, I haven't been able to post a message. But I trust that the
board will be back to normal soon.
As I said, absolutely nothing and everything can be discussed, quarreled over
and calmly talked about. There is however, always that irritating four-letter
word: SPAM.
First and foremost, there is always the problem of getting people to vote
for your pet in the beauty contest. And I really do not see the point of the
Beauty Contest board. All over the board, can be picked out, fine specimens
that lure in unsuspecting victims.
Beware of boards titled (for example):
Isn't that the cutest thing you've ever seen? Awwww… isn't that so cuuutteeeee?
Hand drawn picture of [insert species name] My friend said I couldn't reach
[insert number] votes, I currently have [first number diminished by about 10],
help me prove her [him] wrong!
And so on… You might just end up reading this:

I can't really talk about guilds. All that I can say is that I'm probably
not joining one in the near future. And I can also say that I absolutely abhor
those irritating guild ads. Especially they are on the General chat boards.
Well I especially hate those guilds made for die-hard fans of on-screen characters
(no, I do not like Harry Potter or Orlando Bloom). Well… I'm very sure newbies
or people without guild would gladly make their way to the Guild board to engage
in Guild icebreakers and such activities.
Then there's the 'Anyone wanna Chat?' type of boards, which I don't mind but
don't enter anyway. My hobby is probably rating people's user lookups, and well…
aherm… asking people to rate mind… I enjoy doing this because I just like all
those nice colours and weird stuff people put on their user lookups. Although
questions like 'how did you make you user lookup?' are rather irritating at
times.
Then there are vulgarities and… well… you don't really want to know. Just
don't click on anything that contains a swear word or some dirty stuff… The
monitors will handle those.
Every cloud has a silver lining they say. So here goes about that silver lining
on the General Chat board.
I think many people love the boards that proudly proclaim some sort of competition
going on or solve a riddle for a prize. Well… who wouldn't want a free item
for stretching their brains once in a while?
Next: My favourite thing. Those boards that have absolutely no meaning
and are posted for fun. People who frequently post these kinds of boards are
affectionately know as GCers or General Chatters. These 'useless' boards mainly
revolve around one subject that changes as a particular GCer pleases. The most
recent topic I know of was something to do with socks, or at least eating them,
well… you can't blame GCers for being eccentric, frankly speaking, I am a bit
of a GCer too posting a weird board now and then.
On the whole, the General Chat board is a place, which is occasionally ridden
with spam (which I emphasise, is processed meat) and a particular irritating
spammer now and then. But is a wonderful place to talk about everything and
nothing at all. If you are free, maybe I can catch you sometime at the Chat
Boards on one of my weird boards. |
