A few days ago I was wandering around NeoPets, trying to find something to
do. Fed my pets? Check. Went to the Tombola? Check. Played games? Check. I'd
done everything I needed to do and I was bored. I probably could have found
hundreds of other things to do, but I didn't feel like it. Then I went to the
main page and saw a little icon saying "Neopian Times." So I clicked. And wow!
I read all the articles and editorials all over again, starting from week one.
It was fantastic! I normally read the Times every week, but that is only quickly
scanning it. Reading it slower, I learnt a whole lot more. So here are my thoughts
on The Neopian Times.
The main section is a great place to start your reading. It lists the most
important events in Neopia over the past week, and gives you a glimpse of the
articles and editorial. Then there is the guild spotlight. Three lucky guilds
will get a listing each week, which is a great way to get members. On top of
that, a link to the stock market report is down the page, along with the address
to submit your writing to. Anyway, moving on....
Next I read the articles. There can be up to twenty articles per newspaper,
which makes for a lot of great reading. Travel guides, game strategy guides,
moneymaking hints and tips, pet species information and so much more can be
found in only one week! I suggest reading each article carefully, as you will
probably enjoy it and feel compelled to try something new, or test out what
you learnt!
The short stories are very important to any Neopian Times. Here you will find
action and adventure, comedy and romance - all starring the great NeoPets! I
don't normally read the short stories, but when I did I really enjoyed them.
There are some very talented writers on NeoPets, and it shows it all of this
great fiction. Read them, you might be inspired and write a short story yourself!
Are you an artist? Do you enjoy cartoons? If so, the Comics might be for you.
A lot of them are really funny, and very well drawn. If reading isn't for you,
then you should look at The Neopian Times just to see these great beauties.
If you like them, I also recommend The Deep Catacombs Art Centre, situated in
the main shops area. Poetry, Storytelling and Art live on here!
Of course, you can't read the Continued Series section until you've read 3
or 4 weeks back for the first few parts, but if you are willing to do that then
you'll get a great story to read in return. These are like the short stories,
but longer and in some cases have more characters and events. If you don't want
to read older copies of the Times to find out what happens, just go to the New
Series section and wait for a week for part two to come out!
And last but not least, the editorial. The most common questions sent to the
NeoPets Team are answered here. A staff member writes the editorial each week,
and often comes up with humorous answers to your questions. You can learn the
answers to questions you never even thought of asking!
