Deflation!

by gameboybluehippo

As any shop owner can see, right now Neopia is going through a deflation. This deflation is causing panic all over Neopia, but in the words of the late Douglass Adams, "Don't Panic". Today, I will tell you the benefits as well as downfalls to this deflation, what you should do in times of deflation, and what you can do to help end deflation.

Deflation, believe it or not, has its benefits. But it depends on what you do in Neopia as to whether it benefits you or not. First of all, if you like to train, this deflation is just the thing you've been waiting for. With shopkeepers fiercely fighting to maintain the lowest price, you benefit by being able to buy cheap training supplies at highly reduced price. For example, November 25th, 2001 Codestones sold for 3400 NP. December 2nd, 2001 (just one week later) Codestones are now selling for 3000 NP!!! That's a 400 NP or 12% of the original cost. So my suggestion to all you trainers out there, BUY, BUY, BUY!!!! There is no better time to buy training supplies than now!

After reading the above I bet you are wondering, "What are the downfalls to deflation?" Well, that's simple, shop owners are now losing money!!! For example, let's say that a shop owner originally bought a Codestone for 3200 to sell in his (or her) shop for 3300 NP. Well, anyway, (s)he will wake up the next day to find out that Codestones are now only worth 3000 NP. Thus the shop owner has lost 200 Neopoints. Multiply this lost with the number of Codestones in their shop and it can be devastating.

Now what can you do if you are a shop owner? Simple! DON'T PANIC! Just stay cool and don't do anything drastic. These things happen. What you need to do is to sit down and think of the potential benefits to this deflation and work with it.

So what can you do to stop deflation? Well, everybody must do their part. My first suggestion is to not drastically cut the prices of everything in your shop as this is what causes deflation and in fact will make things worse. Second, you may want to think about raising all of the prices in your shop by just a little bit. If everyone does this much, then the economy will slowly recover. Third, if you are rich, show these yuppies what you are made of and buy out their entire store. Do this by looking at the Shop Wizard and buying out everyone who is even 1 Neopoint cheaper than you and by doing this, you eliminate competition. Don't worry, you won't drive anyone out of business. Since Neopians don't have to pay bills, they will quickly restock and perhaps at more reasonable prices. They will probably thank you for doing this just as people always thank me when I buy out their entire stock. (I have NEVER gotten a complaint from a shop owner by buying them out.) Remember, we must stop deflation together.

So I say this to everyone in Neopia. Let's stop deflation. Let's keep prices stable. Let's make Neopia an economically thriving community again!
