Life On the Racetrack

by Frogspawn213

You won't know me. I'm a Poogle. My name is Stardust, and don't bother looking my name up, it's only my racing name. My name was lost years ago when I first joined the race tracks. I don't even remember my old owner, but I'm sure he/she wanted the best for me when they abandoned me and left me for Faerieland Racetrack. I remember it well, when the Faerie Queen had measured me and weighed me. I weighed 12 lbs. exactly, no decimals. She said I was a runt, but I should do all right in the racetrack. Of course, I was a female pup. I would get faster. And that was where she was right, I did get faster. I was originally used just for minuscule matches, and never raced in the real betting matches. I wasn't treated as well as the other Poogles for that reason and that reason alone. Like, CometDog and CosmicDog, who were the original number one and number two. When the old three and five retired, two more fit Poogles, CinderPuppy and CloudCanine replaced them two. Faerieland Poogle Racetrack's money doubled, and so these two were kept for a long time. You see, there are actually fifteen main Poogles, even though you may only bet on five. Each race lasts fifteen minutes, and so every fifteen minutes five new Poogles replaced the tired out ones. I think I was around one of the fiftieth Poogles, which was quite bad considering there were fifty five Poogles for main and minuscule races. I was naf.

I really admired RainbowShadow's fur. It was all the colours of the rainbow, and every time I looked at the glistening colours, I desperately wanted to be adopted, and leave this racing life far behind. But my dream became fainter, as everyday the minuscule matches went down and down, and the real main matches got into action. Of course, I was around two years of age, which means I was still a pup, when RainbowShadow had caused a disaster in a race. People were demanding money back, and got it, because there had been a huge accident on the race course. Nearly everyone had betted on Poogle 1, CometDog, but CometDog had swerved and got concussion after ramming into the steel pipes in between each road. So the main matches went off for a while, and the minuscule became the main events. Considering there were around thirty other minuscule Poogles better than me, I thought I still had no chance of ever racing and winning, but boy, I should of read that Basic Mathematics Volume 5! They were holding the championship minuscule races, to provide amusement while the main events were off, and even better, you got to bet! They had even introduced feeding items to the Poogle to make sure they win the race. Putting seventeen Poogles into one championship meant that I would be able to race. I felt sorry for WhimperPup, the Poogle two after me. She was unable to race, because she was just out, but I wouldn't let that spoil my big day. Within a fortnight, the first championship was over, and I would be racing near the beginning of the second championship! My heart jumped for joy. So did I. After three matches, the Race Faerie entered the stables, picked me up, and carried me out of the races. I knew where she was taking me, so I cooperated. At the Healing Springs, the Water Faerie did her best to feed me, put my strength and speed up by one, and fully restore my hitpoints, cool! So the Race Faerie took me back, and put me in a small steel cage like basket thing. I was left for fifteen minutes, and I waited. I was staring hard at the small wooden door that blocked my path from the racetrack. Three! The loudspeaker boomed. Two! I could hear the applause from outside, even though I was locked in a itchy small steel cage.

One! My heart jumped, and in that motion, a whistle sounded, and the door opened. My hind legs didn't need to be told what to do. Instead, they revved up all the power they could find on the ground, and threw me ten yards out of the cage. I left the steel cage behind, and concentrated on moving my hind and front legs in a rapid and orderly manner. It worked, and I kept up to speed. This was easy, and I was beating all the other Poogles! I was in front of SparkyJet, then SpiffyTail, then ButtonNose, and then there was the last Poogle ahead of me, DelicateLimb. I razzed it past him, and leapt for the finish line. Confetti met me as I broke the red ribbon, and lunged myself into the open door. I had won the race!

This kept on happening. I won my next race, and the one after that, and I was sure that my expectancy was going up too. This would probably make me stronger, because it was a lot of exercise, and soon, my calf muscles were tense. I was really fast. Me, Stardust the purple Poogle, one of the fastest Poogles in the race track. The championship was nearly over, all I had to do was win this one last race, which was going to me held in ten hours. Just ten hours.

I was allowed to spend my free time running on my inheritance. My owner who had abandoned me had left twenty-three Dubloons, five hundred Neopoints, two Neocoins and my soft Purple Poogle Plushie.

I spent nineteen Dubloons at Swashbuckling Academy, and when I was about to race, I was level thirteen, with above average speed, Codebreaker, above average strength, Fire Torch ability, above average endurance, and intelligent. But, what confused me, was why WhimperPup had been brought out of the stables to stand next to me, and why someone had just brought a blue Satin collar and replaced my old red Poogle collar with it. Racers weren't meant to wear Satin.

This female Neopian was holding a Faerie paintbrush in one hand. It looked as though the Race Faerie had just given it to her. Then, she picked me up, and held me up. 'We're going for a trip to Rainbow Pool!' she laughed.

Yes, I won't tell you my real name. Work it out for yourself. I am a purple Faerie Poogle, with the same stats, belonging to a devoted and kind owner, I won't tell you her name. I live with two other Poogles Even though I didn't compete in the final of the championships, I was happy. Remember fellow NeoPets, Dreams Can Come True!
