"AIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!" Nexxus screamed
as he flew out of the black opening. "A Dark Faerie!!!"
His face was scratched and his paw was bleeding.
"A Dark Faerie? Where?"
"Here, that's where," came a dark voice.
A Dark Faerie emerged from the darkness, hair
shiny and purple, lipstick green and vile-looking. "Your pesky Neopet ruined
everything. Now stand aside while I finish him off!!"
"No," I said as I stood in front of Nexxus, defending.
"Fool!!" the Dark Faerie spat. "I am Ahlora,
the greatest Dark Faerie that ever lived!!"
She fired a blast of dark energy at me with her
wand. I deflected it with a solid barrier of light, sending it back to Ahlora.
Ahlora howled with pain and fury as her own spell
hit her. But she was not finished with me yet. "Away with this scoundrel,
she's hurt me enough," Ahlora whispered in a threatening tone. "Steal
her power to make me tough!!"
A black mist streamed from her wand, and I whispered
a spell of my own, "Air, Earth, Water, Fire, make this Faerie lose desire..."
White flames erupted from my wand and devoured
Ahlora's spell. They sent shockwaves up her arms and she screamed, a horrible
sound that chilled my bones.
I watched the flames devour her mind and she
collapsed to the ground in a heap. "Disappear," I whispered, and Ahlora vanished.
I turned to face Nexxus, and quickly healed his
wounds. "What happened exactly?" I asked him.
"Long story," he said. "I'll tell you later."
Then he left the room.
"Nexxus has wings?!?!" Dagger asked.
"All my pets do," I told her. "They're gifts
from the Faerie Queen."
I glanced over at the dark opening. It had lit
up considerably, and was by far the lightest thing in the room.
Inside were three Petpets: an Airax, a winged
Snowbunny, and a Searex. They were all caged and looked miserable and poorly
treated.
"The poor things," I said, walking into the room.
I carefully unlatched each cage. The winged Snowbunny
and the Airax flew out at once; the Searex stayed inside, looking at me fearfully.
"It's okay," I coaxed the little Searex out of
her cage and into my hand.
Shiva moved forward and gently scooped up the
Searex. "I'll name you Lyra," she said, smiling. Lyra cuddled against Shiva
and went to sleep, smiling contentedly.
"Lightspeed, Laser!!" I called, and the two Neopets
came to me at once.
Their eyes widened with delight as they leaped
up into the air, trying to catch the airborne Petpets.
When the Petpets were finally caught, Laser was
the proud owner of Snowy the Snowbunny, and Lightspeed had become very good
friends with Crossbow, his new Airax.
I asked Dagger if she would like to stay for
dinner, but she said that she needed to feed her own NeoPets. I teleported her
back to her NeoHome, and then I was alone again on an island with my Neopets.
***
Two weeks had passed.
It was afternoon, and I mounted Shiva to pay
a visit to the pink Gelert and her owner.
I began to knock on their NeoHome door, until
I realized that that wasn't a grand enough entrance.
So I decided on appearing right in front of the
owner.
"Hello," I said pleasantly. "Do you have my paint
brush?"
"Yes, we do," said the pink Gelert who entered
the room, carrying a large paper bag.
"Thank you so much!!" I said, and, opening the
bag, found a lovely split paint brush inside.
I handed the Gelert a large cardboard box, then
held my breath, hoping that she'd like it.
The Gelert suspiciously opened up the box. "Oh!!"
she exclaimed when she saw what was inside. "Look, xxx_sari_xxx!! A Polarchuck!!
Just what I always wanted!!!"
The pink Gelert beamed at me. "Oh, thank you
Miss Faerie!!! Thank you very much!!! I'll name him Chuckie."
Xxx_sari_xxx smiled warmly at me. I smiled back.
"Thank you," she said.
"Thank you," I said, and we both laughed.
I had found a new friend.
***
Three days later, I had a big party at my new home and invited all my NeoFriends.
Dagger arrived first, with Rai, Storm, Diablo,
Xena, and their PetPets.
Then came chiddy10, forevershoyru, npetsfan4ever,
smallcreampuff, and xxx_sari_xxx along with their Neopets (get ready for a long
list): 666__ShArP__666, Tristan_Kelly, alien_gurrl, Dragon_112502, Speed_31603,
NeoGruno_001, NeoShoyrie_1, Cookie_Dough_Cake, Hot_Chili_Peper, Straberrie_Lemonade,
mandrine_orange, Jewelz4312, x___Lightning___x, x___Sweet___x, and xxx__Thunder__xxx.
I pulled out an old Tree Stump Table and passed
out Dandelion and Brudock Drinks to everyone, along with my special recipe of
Caramel Volcano Cake.
After pulling up chairs for everyone to sit on,
I sent all the pets off to play on the beach while the owners talked.
The talk was very boring and dull, just about
silly rumours that had spread throughout Neopia.
After eating my fifth slice of cake I got up
from my chair, excused myself from the table, shifted into my Neopet form, and
joined the other Neopets in a lively game of tag.
I splashed around in the golden water, letting
my tongue hang out as I loped around, dodging other Neopets that tried to tag
me. It was fun, until I became very tired.
I trotted over to a lone rock that sat in the
ocean, just big enough for me to sit on.
Making sure I was alone, I summoned the wind
serpent once again.
The dragon came, landing in the water beside
me. It folded its wings, and looked at me with kind eyes.
I mounted, and the serpent spiraled up; up into
endless space.
I buried my nose into the dragon's mane for oxygen
as we rushed past nebulas, stars, planets, and galaxies at incredible speed,
far faster than the speed of light.
There is something I must show you. The
dragon's voice sounded through my mind.
A few minutes later we stood in front of a large
shrine, like Coltzan's, only silver in color, and it was surrounded in snow.
"Yeah, so what?" I shoved my hands into my pockets.
Climb up to the top of the shrine.
I climbed up, and up, and up, until I reached
the top. The air was thin and it was so cold that I shivered. I absentmindedly
shifted into a Snow Faerie. It felt much better in this form.
"What now?" I called down to the serpent.
"Wait, you fool!!" the serpent wasn't speaking.
It was someone... very close...
"Ahlora!!" I gasped, seeing the Dark Faerie emerge
from the curtain of snow. "But you... I thought..."
"I see my serpent has done well for you," said
Ahlora in a venomous tone.
"Your serpent?" I asked. "What do you
mean, your serpent? I summoned it, it's mine!!"
"Wrong," said Ahlora. "He's mine. He made sure
that your serpent was finished off."
"No..." I turned to the serpent. "Is this true?"
The serpent nodded. Yes. I led you here to
destroy you.
"Fine then," I said, clenching my fists. "But
you can never destroy me. Never."
"Oh really?" The serpent hurled
a ball of ice at me, and I shifted into a Fire Faerie, melting the ice.
I then shifted into my all-elemental form and
rose high up into the air, daring Ahlora and the serpent to follow.
Ahlora leapt onto the serpent's back and rode
after me.
"I'll out-fly you, Shina!!" Ahlora hurled a gigantic
ball of darkness at me.
The dark energy scorched one of my wings, making
it harder to fly.
I continued my decent upward, and when the air
grew thin, I simply cast a spell and I was transformed into an Air Faerie.
But Ahlora couldn't breathe, and she had changed
the serpent's magic to Dark for more energy. There was no way she could get
any oxygen.
"Give up?" I asked.
"Never!!" Ahlora cried, but she wheezed, even
as she said it.
I sent a gust of icy-cold wind to take away the
rest of her oxygen.
Ahlora fell down to the snow-covered ground,
landing with a thump.
"She's not dead," I told the serpent.
The serpent roared at me, but retreated all the same.
In a few minutes, they had disappeared once again
in the curtain of snow.
***
I stood at the top of the shrine, dagger drawn.
"Nexxus?" I spoke to the dagger.
As I expected, the dagger spoke. "Yeah, Shina,
where are you?" Nexxus' voice sounded through the dagger. "Everyone's worried."
"In truth, I don't know."
"Explain." Nexxus' voice was patient, but I could
tell that he was getting worried.
"The serpent was Ahlora's creation," I told Nexxus.
"It brought me here, and Ahlora battled me. I won, but I can't find my way home."
"Why don't you teleport?" suggested Nexxus.
"I can't teleport unless I know where I'm teleporting
from. Otherwise I'd have been home by now."
"Oh." Nexxus paused for a moment, thinking. "Can
you summon a serpent of your own?"
"Great idea," I said dryly. "Sure, I'll risk
it, let myself be kidnapped again-"
"Okay, okay, I think I get the message."
"It's my only hope."
"Go for it." Nexxus sounded reassuring, and I
decided to give it a try.
Soon I had a wind serpent at my side. He was
weaker than Ahlora's, most likely from being captured. Who knows what she
did to him, I thought with a shudder.
"Do you think you can carry me home?" I asked.
The serpent nodded.
I swung my leg up over his back and grabbed a
handful of mane.
On the road again.
***
"Shina!!" called a familiar voice.
I turned to see my younger brother, i_am_87_years_old
running toward me.
(He's not really 87 years old. Don't ask; I have
no idea.)
"I came to see you," he explained, catching his
breath. "Chiddy10 told me you were having a party."
I looked at Chiddy10. She was playing fetch with
Tristan_Kelly.
"Anyway, I came to give you this." My brother
handed me an envelope.
I opened it up, and these words were written
inside:
Dear Shina,
You will be pleased to know that you have become a very honorable Faerie by
defeating Ahlora. Ahlora has been causing problems all throughout the whole
of Neopia, putting curses on NeoPets and their owners.
The faeries have decided this is a very good deed (especially for such a
young Faerie) and have requested that you write a story containing the details
of how you became a Faerie. Please consider this. Best Regards,
Fyora, Faerie Queen
I got out a quill, an ink bottle, and an empty
journal, and started to write.
The Beginning of the End

I had found a new friend.
The End
***
Superixionffx is still a Faerie, and she still lives on a beautiful island
with her four Neopets: Shiva7214, Nexxus367, Lightspeed45neo, and Laserbud49.
She still has lots of magic and is still learning to harness it. She has not
yet painted Lightspeed with a split paint brush, but will do so shortly. She
has earned a high rank in healing and runs her own NeoVet office. Superixionffx
has treated and cured all with the new disease (which is named Ghost Tear Fever)
and has never lost a patient. Feel free to Neomail her if you like, she is very
fond of feedback. Thanks!!
xxx_sari_xxx is a real person, and a very
nice one at that. I don't recommend Neomailing her too much because I don't
want her getting mad at me for getting all the messages (lol).
Dagger5101 is a real person, too. She is my
best friend both on Neopets and in real life. Neomail her if you want, I'm sure
she'll love the attention!!
Thanks also to these people:
Leb388 (for the tips on making
the Times) Dagger5101 (for being my best friend) My Mom (who is
a writer herself) (for giving me some great pointers) Everyone else who
helped and encouraged me :)
