THE RUINS OF MARAQUA - I'm not sure if we all know about it, but it is there non
the less. For a reason? Maybe. But it had not been discussed... until now. Yes,
I am talking about the mysterious Faerie statue at the bottom of the ocean, in
the Maraqua ruins. It is hard to find if you did not know about it, but it is
near a rock on the bottom left, and it sort of looks like a flower. I'm not sure
how long it has been there, because I only found out about it after reading the
Neopian times issue 87 editorial.
From the start I smelled something fishy (excuse the pun). This was out of
place, and it didn't fit in at all.
When I first saw it, what stuck out most was the ruby red pendant hanging
from the statue's neck. It look sort of like the Amulet of Thilg, but when I
look closely I realized that it was not. No, this was a different pendant, amulet,
necklace, whatever you want to call it, it is something we have never seen before.
So I gave up on the pendant for the moment and went on looking at the different
attributes of this statue, which is obviously a Faerie. This is how I broke
up the characteristics of this statue in order to bring myself closer to understanding
its purpose. I wrote down things that stood out, and this is what I came up
with:
· Her wings
· Her hair
· Her position
· Her expression
· That pendant
Now I took those categories and broke them down, and this is what I found:
Her wings- They have a spike on the very top which reminds me of Darigan.
They are also very pointy at the bottom. These all are signs of darkness in
faeries. So this Faerie is apparently evil, and might even be associated with
Darigan in some way, shape or form.
Her hair - Now most people wouldn't take to much time looking at her
hair, but it struck me weird. It is almost floating, as if she was in water,
but she's a statue, her hair would not float. She is not a water Faerie, and
as I pointed out before, she is apparently an evil, dark, Faber, so this attribute
does not make sense. So I came to a conclusion, this was a real Faerie at one
point, and someone turned her into stone, possible as the wind was blowing.
Her position - She is standing. Take notice of her arms and hands.
It looks as if she is fighting. Possibly she is casting a spell on the person
or thing which she is fighting. But this Faerie did not get a chance to finish,
because she was turned into a stone statue. So this makes me think that she
was not under water at all when she turned into stone. The caption on the page
itself tells us that she did not come from Maraqua, "How odd... a statue
of a Faerie at the bottom of the ocean... I wonder how that got there?".
There is obviously a story on how she got there.
This is how I see it: She was not under water when Maraqua was made into ruins,
no, she fell, from someplace high, into the ruins of Maraqua, after she got
turned into a statue. But what is this place she fell from? Maybe Faerieland?
Maybe, but something keeps bringing me back to Darigan. Remember Darigan's floating
castle? I took time to watch some of the story of Meridell vs. Darigan, and
noticed that his castle moved; it floated to Meridell. Which makes me wonder
where did he come from? Is it possible that he floated over Maraqua?
Her expression- She looks disgusted, surprised and in shock all at
once. Whatever happened to her, she obviously was not expecting. Maybe she was
friends with Darigan, and he wanted that pendant so badly that he turned her
into stone (she wouldn't be expecting that!), but before he could get it she
fell of the floating castle and plunged into the waters of Maraqua.
That pendant - So we come back to this. This pendent is not stone.
So either:
· It some how was powerful enough to not get turned into stone
· It was placed on her after she got turned into stone
· It turned her into stone
The stone itself is red. Red is most used in Fire weapons, or dark weapons.
As I have stated before, I believe that she is a dark type of Faerie.
Lets take focus off the stone right now, and look at the string which holds
it around her neck.
Unlike all other Faerie amulets, this is not particularly pretty, or spiced
up with rocks. It is just a simple chain link.
My point of view- This Faerie was in a fight with something dark, that
she expected to defeat. She was deceived and she expected her amulet to save
her, but it didn't. She fell off Darigan's floating citadel, into the ruins
of Maraqua, and has been there since, undisturbed for the past few months.
Overlook- This is obviously a Faerie. She is obviously a dark type
of Faerie, evil even. She did not come from Maraqua; she came from somewhere
else. She has a mysterious amulet that is not stone, unlike her. The NeoPets
team made it that way on purpose, to accentuate the importance of this amulet.
What is the importance? We don't know... yet. Hopefully this story will unfold
and not just be tossed on the cutting room floor of the Neopian world.
I hope this article gives you something to think about, and maybe even you
can solve this mystery. If you have any ideas or uncover anything on this strange
but interesting story, please Neomail me. Maybe we'll figure something out.
Author's Note: This is all just my opinion, and thoughts in this article.
There is no cold hard evidence backing up what I said, it is simply my theory
on what might have happened.
