Once Upon a Time in Faerieland: Part Five

by dynamitebl

Thousands of faeries gathered for the grand party, each armed with their best wand and magic spells and ready for a fight. They were taking no chances this time.

No fight occurred that night, however. No hunters dared to attack them, and who could blame them? This party was to be different than the others of this year. This was an honoring ceremony, for three special faeries who helped the citizens of Faerieland learn to care and gather the courage to fight.

Fyora, decked in most elegant gown, stepped up to her podium, a grand purple rose that bloomed out into a stage. The crowds gathered around to listen to her speech.

"Welcome, my fellow warriors, to this most prestigious event. As I'm sure all of you know, we're here to honor three Faeries for their work and faith that saved not only my life, but nearly every life here. Fuhnah, will you please step up here?" Fuhnah, amidst thousands of cheers, quickly flew up to stand beside her queen.

"Fuhnah, one of the most delinquent pranksters among the fire faeries (there were loud cheers and laughs after this comment) has proven her worthiness to us. Not only did she gather her courage to seek out the Battle Faerie -on her own - but she succeeded in her endeavor. She fought her way to free one of our own and came back to fight off the Hunters. She fought, though fear filled her mind. She fought, though doubt stilled her wand. But her heart was stronger. Her love for our fellow faeries kept her going. Because of the loyalty she has shown us, I am proud to promote you to the rank of Uber Fire Faerie." Fyora smiled at the shocked look on Fuhnah's face and with a wave of her magic scepter, Fuhnah was engulfed a cloud of purple light. When the cloud lifted, Fuhnah had transformed into the guise of the Uber Fire Faerie.

"WOW!!!" cried Fuhnah as she bowed to her queen. "For my first act as Uber Fire Faerie I shall put on a fireworks display!" She waved her new wand above her head and said a few magic words. The air above them came alive with tiny fire motes that chased one another around in circles. After a few minutes, they started chasing the other faeries around them.

"Leave it to Fuhnah to turn a party into a disaster," said Takayla from the sidelines.

The Faerie Queen, barely able to talk through her laughter, waved her wand once more and all the fire motes dissipated into smoke and disappeared. She waited for the crowds to calm down again before resuming her speech.

"As you may have guess, our second award goes to Takayla, whose ingenious ideas helped free 36 of her fellow captures from the claws of Balthazar She also showed us on the battlefield how to use our own spells to outwit the Hunters. She sent her cousin out to find the battle Faerie, knowing that the Hunters will flee before her mighty sword and shield. Takayla showed us that we can persevere even in the most difficult situations. For this, I am glad to promote you, Takayla, to the ranks of the Uber Earth Faerie. You can now visit the worlds below on your own, giving out special quests to those that do good." Fyora's smile broadened as she waved her wand once more. As the light faded from around Takayla, the crowd cheered for their new Uber Faerie member.

Takayla, with tears streaming down her face, hugged her Queen. "This is the first time in over a century that any Faerie younger than 212 was promoted to be an Uber Faerie!" she cried.

Someone in the crowd called out in response: "This is the first time in over 212 years that anyone deserved it!" The crowd's cheers reached a new volume as the all agreed with the speaker.

"And for our last award," Fyora said calmly, "we are proud to promote a special Faerie to the ranks of Uber Faerie as well. It was not her bravery on the battlefield or quick-thinking that she receives this award. It is for her heart and love towards the other citizens of Faerieland. She managed to stand up for what she believed in and speak out to those who opposed her. She made people believe in the cause and in the Neopians that inhabit the world below ours. Shevaun, will you please approach the stage?"

The crowd cheered as a very confused Shevaun approached the stage. "But I… I… I didn't… I mean-"

Fyora placed a hand on Shevaun's shoulder. "You made us believe. We've sent scouts out to the Neopians and they are helping. More faeries are returning to our lands everyday! We've spread the word and it's working. The Battle Faerie's army has reached an astonishing volume and Uber Faeries are joining in this cause. And it's all because of you Shevaun." With that, Fyora transformed Shevaun into an Uber Water Faerie. "You can now join the ranks of the explorers and help spread the message of rescue and aid. The water faeries at the Healing Springs send you their congratulations as well."

A beautiful song of happiness and love spread across the crowd. Everyone joined in the celebrations and the Flower Dance was resumed. The party lasted well into the night and into the next morning. As the sun rose over the city, the faeries cheered. After all, it was the beginning of a new spring, a time of re-growth and sunshine.

In the midst of the cheers a long Uber Earth Faerie hugs her cousin. "How did you find the Battle Faerie, Fuhnah?"

The Uber Fire Faerie simply smiled and replied, "Well that's a whole 'nother story…"
