Elemental Distortions

by selphie_tilmitt

Ah, it has been a while since we last joined one of the most unusual families in Neopia, again things have changed. Admantine, the once stone Uni, is now painted with stars. WhiteSilver, is now striped. Harle_quin remained the same, but she is now the proud owner of a cute little Bluna named FrostBite! But on to the story and stuff....

"VIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIATOR!!!!!" came the shrill voice of WhiteSilver, as she scrubbed the kitchen counter of the Spooky Forest NeoHome. "VIATOR! IT'S YOUR TURN TO DO THE DISHES!!!"

"AW!" came the reply, as the striped Shoyru sulked into the kitchen. "It's Harle's turn!! I did it last year!"

"Uhm, I know you keep promising Harle your desserts if she does the dishes, but today you're on punishment for blowing up the side of the house," said WhiteSilver, as the began to put the dishes away.

"AW! It's not my fault Admantine left her workshop unlocked...sort of...that one lock was so measly..." muttered the Shoyru.

"Yeah well, while Admantine is studying in the desert, we're short handed and you have more chores anyway...so shut up and wash," sniffed WhiteSilver as she left to watch TV.

Viator hummed quietly, and stared out the window as she scrubbed the dishes. She then realised she'd been humming a tune that'd she'd heard a long time ago. She thought quietly as she hummed and scrubbed. Heh...I think everyone I know now knows about my secret life...too bad no one in my family believes me...I still can't believe I remember this song I made up as I was flying home that fateful night I became the dragon of the Great Fire Dragon...so many things have happened...I've met so many nice new friends...Sholady...Atheneea...Lady...Flames... She paused for a minute to keep herself from bursting out laughing after thinking about the night everyone had decided to have a pie fight. And then there's the darker side of things...my rivalry with Drange...all my fighting in the armies...Then she grimaced as she thought of the new responsibilities the Great Fire Dragon had laid on her. He...he looked at me all serious-like...I remember exactly what he said too..."Young one, now that everyone knows about your servitude to me, I will tell you more, and give you another duty"...dutydutyduty...I always have my foot stuck in duty! Sheesh...then that long story I almost fell asleep during..."Young one, dragons have a mortal enemy, we have quietly been at war for years. Mazoku, are the bane of the universe. They wish only to destroy! Viator paused again, to make the mental note, that Mazoku, in Japanese, meant ‘Demon Race'. "If you come upon a mazoku in your travels, my young dragon, you MUST NOT let them carry out their plans, and trust me young one, a mazoku ALWAYS has a plan."

Viator yawned and left the last dish in the sink as she headed towards her bedroom. She flopped on the bed, to read some books the Dragon had told her to read.

Blahblahblah...mazoku...blahblahblah...I love being his dragon...but...what's so bad about a mazoku? Then she gasped as she looked down at the old English writing in the book. She read aloud, so she could absorb all the information. "Years ago...when dragons were only a myth, a new being came into play, they were dubbed "Mazoku" after their devious tricks and deadly magic. After creating a spell, that had enough force to bring down a galaxy, six dragons arose from the planet, and vanquished the demons in a flurry of Natural power. And while many Mazoku survived, most became too selfish to work together, and went to practice their own spells, for their own dreams of world conquering, and power. The dragons remain, to this day, quietly keeping their boundaries alive, and watching over everyone."

Viator slumped over onto her side, to take in the information. geez, no wonder GFD has a problem with them! But it's not my problem really...I'll keep an eye out...but with all the centuries, I'm sure their power has dwindled...and I bet that "World Ending" spell doesn't exist anymore. Heh, but, I'll definitely watch out for them. And she rolled over to fall asleep.

***

Viator flew along through the air currents, following her friends in front of her. They flew across a Tyrannian valley, on their way to get something to eat.

"HAH! Some dragon you are Viator...you can't even keep up with me!" yelled Sholady over her wing as she whizzed past Viator.

"Aw, everyone knows that dragon thing is a lie! Via, you sure do come up with some funky stories!" laughed Atheneea as she turned to catch a patch of warm air.

"Seriously...not even your rival guy...what's his name...Drange...believes you!" laughed Sholady as she rolled through the air.

"You guys make me feel so special!" laughed Viator as she took the lead.

"VIA! LOOK OUT!" yelled Sholady when she saw Viator heading straight towards a figure hovering in the air. A smidge too late though, a sudden flash of light, and Viator flew sideways, almost crashing into a passing Pteri. When Viator came to, she grinned as she saw Sholady and Atheneea's weary eyes, and laughed when they began talking at once.

"ARE YOU OKAY?"

"I warned you!"

"Sheesh! What a fall!"

Viator laughed, and then felt more eyes on her. She looked up, and found herself staring into a pair of purple eyes. She stood up and looked more carefully. The eyes belonged to a desert Shoyru, who never seemed to blink.

"Uhm..." said Viator.

"Yeesh Via, this is Mythril_Javelin. He's the one you ran into in the air. But, even though it was your fault, he followed us down, to make sure you were okay!" glared Sholady. Viator continued to stare at him, to catch him if he blinked, something about him seemed odd to her. She recounted the incident, and remembered veering off to the right to dodge, when Sholady had yelled. She had been about an inch away, when she saw a burst of light, and felt something push her away before she blacked out. Though Atheneea and Sholady were both pressing her to say sorry, she hushed them and continued to stare into the other Shoyru's deep purple eyes. She knew exactly what had happened, and intended to say so.

"Yeah, thank you. For having a shield up," hissed Viator.

"I always have one up," said the desert Shoyru without emotion.

"Yes, I imagine. If you don't mind me asking, all the shield spells I know, don't involve a direct explosion when someone comes in contact with it," said Viator, not noticing the confused looks of her two friends.

"I'm sure I know a magic, you can't begin to comprehend..." said the Shoyru, again without emotion, still not blinking.

"Yes, and what method of teaching did you receive? Eh Namagomi?" said Viator.

"It's really none of your business, and I've been called worse things before," said the ever plaintive Shoyru

"Now I get it...I had my suspicions...but you really are a mazoku..." hissed Viator.

"I figured you'd get it eventually dragon of Fire...you can call me Namagomi or Mazoku, but my nickname is Mythic..." said the desert Shoyru, as he began to rise into the air.

"Well, Mythic, What did you come here to destroy? Me? My master? My friends? My family? Or all at once maybe?" hissed Viator, preparing to fight.

"It's a secret..." said Mythic, as a sudden swirl of light flashed around, followed by a purple flash.

"HE VANISHED!" yelled Sholady.

"DUH," said Atheneea.

"Wow...that was interesting Via...uhm...can I ask you a question?" said Sholady.

"You just did! But sure...whatever...I'll answer anything! Just so long as we can EAT!!" said Viator as she lifted off the ground, flapping her wings.

"Wow...same old Via..." mumbled Atheneea as she began to hover as well. The rest of the flight was in silence, and Viator didn't mind, considering she needed to collect her thoughts. So that's what a mazoku's magic feels like. Now I'll be able to recognise one anywhere...that one seemed harmless enough...but I think I should go talk to Great Fire Dragon tomorrow...

***

Viator hovered in front of the familiar face of the Fire Dragon. Trying not to let the sulfurous air of the volcano get to her.

"Well you...*cough* see...Great Fire...*coughcough* Dragon...ugh...that name is so long...can't I get a nickname for you???" coughed Viator.

"Call me whatever you want young one...though in a book I was once dubbed the name...Ignus," Rumbled the giant beast.

"What a funky...FUNKY COOL...name!" said Viator, trying to cover herself.

"Yes, yes, just get on with your story young one, I have much to tell you as well..."

"We'll see... yesterday, I was on my way to dinner...if was a good dinner too...lots of Neggs and fruit! And the dessert was so awesome! Choc..." she cut herself off when she felt the earth below her shake. "Uhm, well, anyway...I read those books you told me, and on my way to dinner, me and my friends bumped into a mazoku! Er...isn't that funny?" said Viator as she laughed again to cover herself.

"And it ran away...like they so often do...Mazoku were a problem in the past...but the demon's number has dwindled down, and it's easier to let them run then to fight," said the dragon in a frustrated tone.

"Wow...I thought you'd be mad that I let it off! That's great ^^. I'll get him next time! Erm...you had something to tell me?" said Viator, as she leaned back to sit on her tail.

"Yes..." started the dragon as it was cut off by the little Shoyru again.

"WAIT! Ignus, in the book I read, it said there were six dragons! And...and...and..." rambled Viator.

"I knew you'd ask that eventually...there are four dragons...the book you read was wrong...the other two don't exist..." said the dragon.

"Four...and you're fire...so..." Viator counted off on her hand..."So...fire...water...air...earth? That's four right? One for each element? What were the other two supposed to be?" asked Viator.

"Light and Darkness. But those two elements can't be seen. Now if I can continue my story?" said the dragon again, in a frustrated tone.

"Can't be seen? That's lame! Er...sorry your greatness..." said Viator, as she hunkered down to the floor.

The Dragon sighed, and continued. "Well young one, I feel the Earth trembling, as if something big is going to happen soon. It may be just a hunch, but young one, I've arranged for you to meet the Great Elemental Dragon of water. Our two elements go hand in hand you see, and we figured, you, and its dragon, could also work together."

"No prob Ignus! Erm...does this dragon...have...a nickname too maybe?" said Viator.

"I suppose its book name is Hydrola..." said the dragon again...wrinkling its brow in thought.

"Whoa...pretty name ^^. Where is it? I can't wait to see another dragon! I bet it's all big, and strong, and scary!...Er...like...you...Ignus..." said Viator, once again having to cover herself.

The dragon sighed again and began to speak in a low tone. "Young one, this is not a joke...there will come a time, when the four dragons, and their knights, their dragons, must rise, and work together again. We must be ready, if any menace's approach! You must take this seriously!" rumbled the Dragon, as it slammed its claw down, sending volcanic rock, and magma in all directions.

"AH! I'm sorry...I'm sorry! I'll go, and meet the Hydrola, and its dragon, if anything happens! I promise we'll be ready to work together!" pleaded Viator.

"I'm sure...but first..." said the Dragon, as it stretched a long, sharp claw out towards the trembling striped Shoyru

"NO! Please! I'll be good I promise! I'll mfffmfmmmf!" said Viator, as she became muffled by the claw. She felt the air temperature heating up. She closed her eyes, and when she opened them, she was gaping at the Fire Dragon. "WHAT WAS THAT FOR??"

"Young one, I can't just send you to meet the Water Dragon, without having you look associated with fire..." rumbled the Dragon, laughing softly.

"Ar?" said Viator, as she looked down at herself. "AAAAAAH! I'M ON FIRE!!" she screamed and began running in circles. "Oh wait..." she took a minute to think.

The dragon sighed again, then waved its claw at the small fire Shoyru "I am a dragon, you are my dragon, I hereby order you to go meet Hydrola, so we can be prepared if anything should happen."

"Yes sir!" said Viator loudly, as she gleamed with pride, and began heading towards the mouth of the volcano, eager to meet the new dragon.

The dragon shook its head, and called up to her. "Young one, in case you wanted to know, Hydrola lives in a lake in the mountains..." Viator yelled something inaudible down. And set out.

***

Viator had been flying for days, eager to see the new dragon. Yet failing to remember her family and friends that she had left waiting for her, with nothing but a half thought-out excuse. It was her third day, and flying over mountains, searching for lakes, is NOT easy. As she began to drift into a daydream, of how she'd impress the new dragon, she felt herself smack into someone.

"WHA! C'mon! I'm trying to fly here!" She looked up, and realised she had flown into a silvery wing of a Faerie Peophin.

"I'M trying to fly here you dork!" screeched the Peophin, as it smacked Viator with its long tail.

"AUGH! Peophin's shouldn't fly!!!" yelled Viator.

"Says you! You rude Shoyru! I'll have you know, my wings are ten times more beautiful than yours!" yelled the Peophin.

"Who CARES! At least I'm not hovering in the middle of the air like I don't know where I'm going!" retorted Viator.

"AT LEAST I'M NOT DAYDREAMING!" screamed the Peophin.

The two hovered there for a few minutes, glaring at each other, then they both took off again in different directions.

"Stupid Peophin...thinks she rules the sky...hmph...bet she doesn't even know what a dragon is...peh..." sulked Viator, as she continued her search. She finally caught site of a small lake, in a basin of the mountains. She yelled happily, and spiraled down, landing with a loud SPLASH, in the water.

"WHEE! Hydrola! Dragon of the Element water! My master Ignus of fire, has sent me to confirm the partnership!" and just to add some texture to her speech, Viator splashed around in the water. She immediately came to a stop, when she realised what had emerged from the water.

"Le...le...LEVIATHEN!!!!!" she screamed, and continued to splash around in the water like a chicken.

"That's an interesting name...first you call me Hydrola, then Leviathen..." came a smooth voice.

Viator turned to catch a whole glimpse of the lake monster. She gasped when she realised how foolish she'd been. The long neck of the water dragon held firmly out of the water, ridges went down through its back, and several large colourful fins adorned its body. The blue colouring on its scales, reflected the water it was swimming in. Its long body and tail were wrapped around in a large coil, taking up the entire bottom of the lake. Three large horns jutted from its head, and its long snout ended in a large rack of teeth, with a long serpent's tongue. Its eyes glowed a furious blue as it stared at the small Shoyru

"Eheh.....Ignus...sent me...to meet...dragon...and...lalala..." said Viator...trying not to stutter...much.

"I'm aware...your colour more then gave it away...as much as I'd like to have a long conversation with you...I need to get back to work...I'll send my dragon up to meet you..." said the dragon, as it plunged back under the water.

"Way to choke Via..." muttered the Shoyru as she lifted into the air. A few seconds later, the water parted again, and another voice rose to her ears.

"Well, Viator...dragon of Fire...my name is Ethine...prepare to meet me!"

Viator grinned, and prepared herself to meet the Shoyru who was the dragon of water. Her jaw dropped when the figure arose from the lake.

"AAAAH! You!!!" said both at once as they pointed at each other. Viator stared straight at the same Faerie Peophin she had bumped into before.

"DAYDREAMING SHOYRU!" yelled Ethine.

"SLOW FLYING PEOPHIN!!" yelled Viator. Then they both sulked as they realised who each of them were. They flew closer, turned their heads away, and shook hands.

"Dragon of fire..." said Ethine...dragon of water.

"Dragon of water..." said Viator...dragon of fire.

They both grimaced and flew in different directions. Viator decided to go home, and sleep off the disappointment. She thought quietly as she headed back over the mountains. Hmph...I hope the other two dragons aren't like her...pleh...a mazoku to deal with, and a stubborn dragon of water...nyah...I'm just glad my adventure is over now...AH! She snapped and realised something. WHITESILVER IS GONNA MAKE ME PAINT THE ENTIRE NEOHOME SINCE I VANISHED LIKE THAT! Ooooooooouuu Unfair...UNFAIR! Well...at least I can relax now.

And the flamed Shoyru continued her Journey home, weary of her possible adventures to come.
