Forgotten Faeries: The Soup Faerie

by oily106

NEOPIA CENTRAL - At the edge of Neopia Central, in the Marketplace, stands a large black cauldron. A long line of pets queue next to it, all colours, all species, but all hungry. Kindly volunteers move up and down the line, entertaining the hungry pets, handing out bowls and spoons, lending a helping paw. If you move closer, you can see the Soup Faerie, tirelessly stirring and serving the soup out to the starving pets. The hungry and poor of Neopia can always come here and be assured of something to eat, from the generosity of the Soup Faerie.

We've all visited her one time or another. When you're new and a little lost in the vastness of Neopia, it's hard to satisfy the hungry cries of your newly adopted pets. Thankfully, the Soup Faerie will feed anyone who has under 2000 NP Thanks to her continued dedication to feeding the hungry, many pets have been able not just to eat but to stay with their new owner rather than be abandoned and break out of the cycle of poverty. Many now rich and wealthy pets had their humble beginnings in the Soup Kitchen. For really desperate pets, the Soup Faerie will even provide a secure, safe shelter, with a bed and plenty of food. Pets who've had a bad life are always welcomed at the Soup Kitchen. A sense of community always surrounds the place. Even among those who have nothing, happiness and fun is always found here.

The Soup Faerie is a kind, unselfish and warm-hearted person. She has spent all her Neopian life helping others. Who knows how many rich and successful Neopians spent the beginning of their lives sitting in her Soup Kitchen? The Soup Faerie serves 584,390 bowls of soup a day! Imagine how many would go hungry if she didn't provide free meals. Almost everyone in Neopia owes her something, for helping them when they were in need.

Her Soup Kitchen is kept running by donations from the Money Tree. Her schedule is the same from day to day. In the morning, she receives her allowance from the donations the previous day. She then scours Neopia, buying up the freshest and best ingredients that her money can buy. She always shops early, to buy only the best those who depend on her. She then mixes up a batch of her delicious soup in her famous cauldron. She serves the soup personally to those who visit her, always with a big smile and an even bigger helping. Her loyal army of volunteers help her out, washing up the dirty bowls and spoons and tending the cauldron. The soup is simple and plain but very nourishing and fills an empty belly quickly than any Gourmet food. Some of her delicious recipes include -

Lamb Broth

Asparagus and Chutney Soup (Okay, maybe not all of her recipes are delicious)

Mulligatawny Soup

Chicken and Vegetable Soup

Minestrone Soup

Potato and Leek Soup

Turnip Broth

Tomato Soup

The Soup Faerie is, to quote her trading card, "a kind and gentle soul. Unlike the other Faeries, she cares very little for her own appearance, preferring to spend her time helping the starving pets of Neopia." She is a very special Faerie - a noble and wonderful person devoted totally to helping others. I did ask for an interview but she apologised and said she was too busy. So, instead, I sent her a small list of questions by Neomail. Here are the questions:

- Do you like your job?

- Why do you spend your life helping others?

- When did you open the Soup Kitchen?

- What made you choose to be the Soup Faerie, instead of a Light Faerie, for example?

- Do you actually have any magic?

"My job is very rewarding and I love doing it - I cannot imagine a better way to spend my life. I'm not rich or respected or famous, like many other Faeries are, but that doesn't matter to me. I'm quite a simple person at heart and I did not want that kind of life. When I first came to Neopia, I was lost too. I didn't know quite who I was - opening up the Soup Kitchen has allowed me to discover myself. I never chose an Element, like other Faeries do, so I never had any magic. But when I came here and saw the new owners and pets, looking as lost as I was, I felt compelled to help them. I knew then I wanted not to control magic but to help those who couldn't help themselves. I started my first batch of soup cooking and from then on, it's pretty much history. I'm very happy and I'd never consider doing anything else now. Everything I do makes a big difference in someone's life - and that's a wonderful thing."

Those are the words straight from the Soup Faerie herself. Don't forget to help her out or to donate to her. Anything is appreciated. To finish, I'll leave you with an excerpt from the Neopedia entry on the Soup Kitchen:

"Yes, the Soup Kitchen is dedicated to helping stone-broke Owners and their skinny Neopets break the cycle of poverty and starvation, and it's also a place for pets and Owners to come together with the Soup Faerie and give a helping hand or paw or wing or hoof to other NeoPets in need. That's what it's all about."

She helped you when you were a newbie, so you should help her back by helping others out. Remember what she did for you, what she does for others and the very unique kind of person she is - remember the Soup Faerie - never again should she be a Forgotten Faerie!
