Today I start my journey to the top of the perilous Terror Mountain, I know how many brave neopets have met their doom on the terrible pile of rock and snow. I have never feared the mountain, I often played on its lower slopes with my friends and sisters. I am very confident that I will reach the top and I will triumphantly place my flag there where it belongs. Today was very easy, it's not even chilly and if the rest is anything like today it'll be a breeze, but I won't be too naive, maybe the mountain doesn't have a top, after all nobody has ever got there before.

I saw many other neopets yesterday, most of them were the pets from the Happy Valley taking their petpets for a walk, how I wish I had brought Robosnow my Abominable Snowball with me now, he would have been great company and anyway, he's accustomed to the cold. Most of them laughed when they saw how far I had gotten, even though I'm still ahead of schedule, I hope I get a lot further tomorrow, they won't be laughing so much then. It's quite lonely on this part of the mountain and there are less and less pets the higher up I go, I could sure go for a hot chocolate right now, I just keeps on getting colder! But it's nothing I can't handle.

I'm in a bit of trouble at the moment, I didn't realise how steep and slippery it would get, I tried to pull myself up on a rock but it broke loose and I lost my footing, I rolled back down to where I was hours before, all that hard work for nothing! I'm glad I was early yesterday or I'd never reach the top! I think I'll stay here for a while until I get over the shock of rolling miles down the side of the treacherous Terror Mountain. My water is beginning to freeze and there is snow inside my soaking wet coat. The cold is beginning to creep up on me now and I'm starting to feel the pain that many other brave neopians have suffered.

I'm now back where I fell and I found the rock that nearly killed me, I threw it as far as I could down the mountain and (I know this must sound stupid) but I think it may have been a pet rock because I could've sworn I heard it cry out as I hurled it off the side of the mountain. I'm going to rest here for the night before the slope gets too steep for me to be able to sleep safely on.

I'm really missing my sisters now and especially our lovely warm neohome, it's unbelievably cold now and I've no water left as it's all frozen. The ice is as dry as the Lost Desert but as cold as a frost bite negg up here, if I don't reach the top soon I'm going to be in a lot of trouble. I wish I hadn't done this now, I had no idea how much I would have to suffer to achieve this goal and my flag seems to be getting heavier and heavier.

I'm extremely close to the top now, the air is getting thinner and the fog is getting thicker with every step I take. Maybe it will all be worth it in the end but then again, maybe it won't, for I have made a mistake, I have forgotten about the way down, I might not have enough supplies left by then. Will I fall again? Or will I arrive safely? If something happened would anyone find this diary? If you are climbing Terror Mountain and reading this diary you are wasting your time, I have either already reached the top or it is impossible. I will still carry on but I will have to carry on hiking through the night because it is much to steep for sleeping let alone setting up camp.

Friday the 13th really is an unlucky day, I thought I had reached the top but I couldn't see through the fog, all I felt was the flat ground beneath my feet, I was so numb that I didn't even feel the cold anymore. I collapsed right where I was and immediately fell asleep, it was not a pleasant sleep but I must have lied there until all my energy was restored because I woke up feeling refreshed. I then explored my surroundings, it was a flat mass of ice with two small pools at each side, they should have been frozen but seemed not to be. I was beginning to feel very exited as I thought I had reached the top, but, to my great disappointment I saw a huge triangle of ice, jutting out of the centre of the Great Ice Plain. I am now climbing up to the very top of the mountain. It isn't very far now but it sure is steep.
Later That Day
I still can't believe what has happened, I reached the top of the mountain and to my horror there was a flag already there. I was REALLY angry and I took it out on the flag, I snapped the wooden pole and ripped up the picture. Then I replaced the old flag with my own, it was certainly a lot brighter but not as magnificent and I was still curious about what was on the old flag and I wondered who had put it there. Suddenly I panicked when I realised that it could've been my flag destroyed by some stupid newcomer, I then felt very sorry and felt that I must fix that flag, not just because I was sorry, but to commemorate that neopet, after all nobody had ever reached the top and lived to tell the tale, the mountain must have defeated them. I worked very hard trying to fix it all day and I even found a small sowing kit at the bottom of my bag, which I had placed there in case of an emergency. I have given up fixing for now and I am going to try again tomorrow.
February 14th 2004
Fixing sure is frustrating, shivering and thick gloves don't help either, I've got half the picture done but I still can't make it out, I'm going to stop writing for now but I'll let you know what the picture is as soon as it's done.
I've finally finished, it has taken all day but it has been worth it, I now have in front of me a picture of the Ruins of Maraqua and three sad looking Maraquan neopets: a Scorchio, a Draik and a Krawk. I can hear noises in one of the pools, I think I now know where the mysterious trio are.

I tried to sleep but it's impossible, I NEED to know if what I'm thinking is true but it'll have to wait until the morning, I can't see much in the dark.
OK, this is what I'm going to do, I'm going to stick my head into the pool and have a look around, it looks like it goes down deep so I'm going to use the ability Magic Torch so I can see further down. I've just done it, the water was unnaturally warm but very pleasant, there was nothing down there, I couldn't see right the way down and I think it must go right the way through the mountain, I'll check the other one but I don't think there will be anything there either.

I'm glad to say that my journey has now ended and I have arrived safely back in Neopia Central, I'm sorry I didn't write yesterday I was just too busy. I will tell you what happened, I checked the other pool and there was nothing there, just as I thought, I slept away most of the day and the night until something woke me towards dawn, it was fairly light and it was light enough to see. It was silent for a while until a voice said in a whisper "Excuse me," I jumped up and said, "Who's there?" the voice replied
"I am a Draik, but I don't have a name because I don't have an owner to give me one. I was wondering if you could do that light thing again, it's just I'm looking for my pet rock, I think he fell to the bottom of one of the tunnels again and its really dark down there."
"What tunnel?" I asked
"You know, the thing you lit up."
"That's a tunnel?"
"Sure it is, it leads to Maraqua" said the Draik with no name. I looked into the pool where the voice was, I was expecting to see what I saw but still I gasped, it was the Draik on the flag, I handed it to him and said "Where are the others?"
"They're down there, thanks for this, I haven't seen it since Maraqua was destroyed. Would you like to come down?"
"Yes please, but how will I breathe?"
"It's easy, didn't you ever visit Maraqua?" he said, I remembered back to when my owner took me on a kitchen quest when it used to be in Maraqua.
"Yes! I remember! It was just like normal!"
"If you do the light thing and hold onto my back I'll take you down really fast and we'll look for my rock"
"Uh, I think I found him, he tripped me up so I threw him off the mountain" I said timidly, but the Draik just laughed,
"He'll find his way back! Now come on, have you climbed up all by yourself?" I told him my story and showed him this diary, I met his friends who gave me some fresh seaweed pie which I was very grateful for, their home was a small cave in the side of the tunnel where they told me how they had managed to escape the whirlpool which destroyed Maraqua and many of their friends with it. I thanked them for their hospitality as the Draik with no name led me out of the tunnel and into the Ruins of Maraqua, he led me to the shore and I waved goodbye.
So here I am, back at my neohome with my sisters, safe and sound.
