Pet Name: Cage
Owner: nook
Breed: Lupe

About Cage:
“Today the Pet Spotlight is focused on a Pirate Lupe and his adventures in Neopia!” the overhead speakers announced with a soft vibration that rumbled off the walls and onto the ground. The lights far above the audience’s heads’ flickered on, lighting up the old wooden stage with red curtains pulled to its sides. Pacing on stage was the lupe. He was a shaggy looking thing; His fur was thin but thicker in some areas that gave him a patchy appearance. He wore an orange bandana that tied behind his ears. His head hung low as he moved swiftly back and forth across the wooden boards on slender legs. He stopped midway across the floor where a speakerphone was perched on a stand adjusted to his exact height. “Ladies and Gentlemen, I am not here to boast over beauty or of my great triumph;” He began, “My story begins in the corners of the pound where I was abandoned into the dark shadows. The cells were ice cold that late evening, and the bars before my eyes secured my deepest fears. I was lost within a sea of unwanted pets.” His dark green eyes surveyed the crowd. “I felt insecure, miserable, breathless… but most of all I felt the pain of being unwanted.” His voice wavered; he frowned in frustration at his lack of explanation. “Starving within that cramped stall I began to feel as if my life was sweeping away. Watching her leave the room carelessly pierced me even more. I had thrust myself at the cell door one time too many, my right shoulder was increasing in pain and whimpers flooded my throat to the point I felt as if I were drowning in them. I fled to the back of the stall with pain shooting throughout the right side of my youthful body; and there I lay trying to sleep away my grief.” He paused again, staring at the front row blankly as if he could see through it. He thought for a few long moments before swallowing and continuing, “I awakened in the arms of a girl, and through the undying pain in my shoulder, I felt comfort in that position. She looked down at me with bright blue eyes and a wide smile and said, ‘You’ll be all right Cage, I’ll take care of you from now on.’”

He looked up into the faces of the crowd smiling gently, “She took me away from that nightmare, and brought me into a wave of kindness. A wave of love that many pets only experience in their sweetest dreams. I was in a shock after being abandoned, and for days it kept me speechless. But when I awoke from it and felt I could speak again, there never seemed to be a need.” He glanced about the audience again and with a quick nod of the snout he turned around and left the stage.
