Pet Name: Pirouettia
I waved good-bye to a small Gelert, who was happily licking his newly-purchased chocolate ice cream.
The lunch rush had just ended and Neopians were slowly filing out and returning to Neopia Central to finish up their work days. Since Roo Island is just a walk over a rainbow away, many enjoyed picking up an ice cream from my establishment after lunch.
I ran a clean cloth over tables, making them so clean and shiny, one could see his or her face in the tabletop. Staring down at my reflection, I saw my rich pink color, like a delish strawberry popsicle, bright eyes, red bow, and pleasant smile staring back up at me.
It was something that confused most people – an Ice Bruce running an ice cream parlor on Roo Island? Contrary to popular belief, though, Ice pets could do just fine in warmer climates, so long as we didn’t mind slimming up a bit. But the idea of us melting or needing cold temperatures year round is simply ridiculous!
I opened my shop nearly three years ago on Roo Island and it has been a successful part of Neopian culture ever since. I just love the bright colors, lively atmosphere, and constant sounds of laughter that make up this small place. When I visited the island once on a birthday, I just fell so in love with it, I knew it was the perfect place to set up shop.
Previously, I had been staying with a cousin who lived on Mystery Island, a wonderful Coconut JubJub named Debonti, but while he enjoyed the frequently boiling temperatures, it was a bit too much for me. Humidity and excessive heat are both unpleasant, especially when paired together, so I also found the milder weather and climate on Roo Island to be soothing.
I found a perfect place where I made my shop and home, reserving the upper floors for residence and the ground floor for business. I selected tiled floors, with alternating tiles of dark chocolate brown and creamy vanilla bean, and light mocha colors walls. Since Roo Island is well known for its residents' use and affinity for bright colors, I selected a bright blue roof, which reminded me of my cotton candy ice cream, and paired it with clean, white siding. In bright, pink neon letters, something I found and purchased on a trip to Virtupets, the name of my business was prominently displayed on the side of the building: “With a Cherry on Top.”
Getting the rest of the business together only took a bit of ordering and meeting up with suppliers, generally just organizing things and allowing me to get shop set up. And finally, on a bright, sunny day in the Month of Relaxing, I opened up my ice cream parlor and was greeted warmly by the community of Roo Island and Neopia Central. The first ice cream I made as an official businesswoman was chocolate ice cream mixed with chunks of banana and peanuts, made for an elderly Kyrii.
Even now, I still make custom, unique ice creams to order, but I still serve the old classics, like chocolate and vanilla, each ice cream with a cherry on top.
Picking up a napkin holder and cleaning away a smudged fingerprint, I smiled to myself, thinking about how wonderful my life has been. To be able to do what you love day in and day out, well, there can be nothing sweeter!
