Contest:
Spooky Silhouettes

Halloween is coming...

As the spookiest of days comes closer we thought it was time to start thinking about decorations. Thus, your task for this week is to create a black silhouette portrait of one of your Neopets with a spooky frame. There can be other things in the portrait with your Neopet, but everything must be in silhouette. You can use be as intricate as you want with these, but we need to know that you made it so please feel free to include pictures of the process along with the final picture. The portrait should be spooky. We will expect a full description of how you made the portrait. We will judge entries based on creativity, spookiness, and its amusement value. :)

First Place

Eight winners receive the Random Contest avatar, 10,000 NP and an item of DOOM.

Petrifying Portrait
by dahrling
My entry features the silhouette of my beloved Wocky, Crookshank and his Psimouse. The frame and colors were inspired by the Haunted Woods. The portrait was made by first drawing and cutting out the Wocky and Psimouse shapes out of black poster paper. Next the background oval and pieces of the frame were cut cut out of white poster paper. All the pieces were painted and then taped together. Details like the fencing were inked in with a pen after the paint dried. I had a lot of fun putting this together and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do! Thank you for your time, and Happy Halloween everyone! :)

My Scared Blumaroo's Portrait
by dinha_reeves
This is a portrait of my Blumaroo Yvli scared with a vampire. She was walking on the Mutant Graveyard of Doom and when she saw a vampire, she ran of fear. It was a very funny day, because after she freaking out, the vampire withdrew the costume, and it was just my Hissi, Volinski, tricking her! I made this portrait with paper, crayon, glue and scissors, to represent a day of a spooky trick!

Blind_Tom Portrait
by huntingwolf54321
I love any excuse to draw my neopets! Especially at one of my favorite times of the year -- Halloween! I based Tom's portrait off the old Victorian style silhouette portraits. I wanted it to be simple and elegant, and, of course, spooky! Filling in the black was such a pain and took forever, but it was definitely worth it. Enjoy!

Because colors are boring
by lukas__1996
To create the spookiest silhouette in the world, I drew a draft of how it should look like at the end first. Secondly I drew the silhouettes of my pet Droopy_the_dog (unconverted Mutant Scorchio), Dr. Sloth and three Meepits on black paper with a white bolt (see picture 1). Then I took my brother’s shear (please do not tell him about it) and cut out the figures (picture 2). After that I had to draw the background with the trees, the fence and everything else with a black felt pen, a pencil and a carbon pencil (picture 3-5). To make the frame for the portrait, I cut out four long pieces of a black paper and decorated it (picture 6/7). :) I hope my entry isn’t too spooky for the children who play Neopets!

A Spooky Darigan Tribute
by mrcrazy
Drew a picture of Spasmofen (my Darigan Pteri) and outlined him on a piece of heavy black paper. Used a knife to cut him out and finally I glued him to a piece of heavy white paper. The frame is made as a tribute to Darigan I have Lord Darigan at the top and the Darigan emblem on the bottom. The sides are made of several Darigan petpets, can you see them all?

Vicious
by nicole1251
I used black cardstock for the silhouettes, white painted cardstock for the frame with weeds from the yard :) For the background I used a red silking fabric that I cut off some pajama pants I bought at a thrift store. It's my draik and my werekyrii facing off! Oh my :) The moon must be full tonight!

Eeek! Spyders!
by twilightdestinymai
Deseriax may pretend to be a tough kougra, but this phobia gets him every time :) I started with a sketch in white colored pencil and then carefully cut out the silhouette with a craft knife.

Scary Slumber
by xxstormy1987xx
A spooky portrait of my Korbat, Gossamera, and her Spyder, Boris, sleeping on a Hallows Eve. Painted in watercolors and acrylic. Boris's eyes are ruby rhinestones.

Second Place

Twelve lucky people have 5,000 NP, the Random Contest avatar and an item whizzing their way.

Graveyard Spooks!
by _revolutionary_
Jakanoi, my pet Xweetok, is ready & roaring for Halloween! Being spooky & intimidating are just a few of her favorite hobbies. I started with a rough sketch and outlined the lines that I liked. Then, I shaded in the scary silhouette with a darker pencil and cleaned up the edges. Finally, I wrapped the paper in some October leaves for the finishing frame!

Ghost Kougra Silhouette
by amijadedunn
This was made using water colours and paper after being sketched first and with wool glued around the frame and for the spider web style hanger. The silhouette is based on my ghost kougra and her little petpet spyder :)

Coffetail with Cutedevil
by bluecheek9311
For my entry, I figured the pet I'd portray would be the ever so fiendish, Coffetail the Gelert, and her Droolik, Cutedevil. I created my pet and her petpet by cutting out their forms in black cardboard paper. For the frame, I used scraps from the cardboard paper, some thin rope to wrap around the strips of paper, and I incorporated some red leaves I found outside to create that autumn feeling. I set up the frame with some candles, thus creating the spooky, mysterious silhouttes of Coffetail and Cutedevil-- whom by the way, is sitting on a pumpkin :)

Inspectre Silhouette
by brushfire_fairytales
This take on the traditional Victorian silhouette features my ghost gnorbu Inspectre. It is inspired by the swirling fogs of the Sleuthing Background, and features an ever-watchful meepit. What could be spookier? I began by sketching out the shapes I needed, then creating more detailed versions which I traced and cut out. I placed the tracings on black paper and cut around them, creating the finished silhouettes which I used to embellish an old frame.

Haunted Graveyard Silhouette
by depressedhopexx
First I brainstormed ideas on what to draw then I drew an outline of a spooky foreground with Wordbound in the middle, then I started painting it. After that, for the frame I measured the length and the width that I used for the silhouette and I made outlines of bones about the same size and traced them out in cardboard and cut them out. I then painted the bones white, and glued them together in the shape of a frame so that I could tape the picture to the back. Then I taped some string on the back as well so that I could hang it on a nail.

Little Ghost's
by evil_nightmare_kitty
1st went outside and went through my backyard and got some twigs, leafs, and some leafs and stuff from plants. I then used hot glue to put the twigs together and then wrapped wire around the corners to make it look better. I made the wire look like the curls on pumpkin stems. Next I worked on the clay Spyder. I put it together, baked it and then painted it. Once it was dry I glued it onto the frame and then put the word 'Spooky'. I painted and then cut out the letters. Last but not least. I worked on the silhouette. I drew it out with a blue pencil then painted in the lines. I waited till it was dry then put the frame with the picture. And that is how I made my "Spooky Frame".

Frost Spirits
by sailor_savvy
GalSverge, cursed by fate, uses her newfound abilities to defend the no mans land between Tyrannia and Terror Mountain. There, she faces spirits, ghosts of the neopets who perished within the icy caves and unforgiving mountain passes. Her new strength and appearance give her life a new meaning, as she become a warrior and protector for her people, pursuing what is good, vanquishing what is evil, and destroying the creatures of the frost. Done completely in photoshop of my second oldest pet, my Tyrannian Gelert, GalSverge.

Haunting Shadows
by shoyru_lover713
I wanted to try the "traditional" art of silhouettes, so I only used black paper and a pair of scissors to create this portrait of my pet Shadow_Shoyru713. After three hours of squinting, cutting and gluing, I'm rather proud of the results.

Zlicka
by somebodys_sister
Zlicka decided to defy physics and cast a white silhouette! Note: No Candy Corn were harmed in the making of this project.

Pant Devil Surprise
by unolespirit
I first drew my shoyru on white paper, cut it out, traced the template onto black construction paper then cut that out. I drew and cut out the frame from black construction paper then glued both pieces onto orange construction paper, then wallah!

Sapphireveil visits a Spooky House
by vantine_harlow
Sapphire decided to go visit the Haunted Woods one day and ended up at this spooky house. The 3 pics on top are of materials and process pics while the one at the bottom is the finish product. Hope its spooky enough. =)

Cysa, demon
by waschbaer09
I drawn Cysa on my computer. I only used GIMP. On the pictures you can see pictures of the process (1.-3.) and the final picture (4.).

Third Place

Lastly there were 100 runners-up who will each receive 2,000 NP and the Random Contest avatar.
