About Stamply:
Well, let me start of by introducing myself. My name is Stamply, I
am a Clouds Chomby. Unlike most pets, my reason for wanting to be in the pet
spotlight is not to have a fancy trophy or to have fame, my reason is to try
and save as many pets as possible. How can I possibly save any pets through
the pet spotlight? Well, you are about to see.
The first thing I can remember is my owner's smiling face looking
down at me as I hatched out of my egg. She picked me up and gave me a great
big hug. I was so happy, I had a spacious neohome, I was fed and played with
every day, and I was given lots of books to read. I think I was the
happiest pet in all of Neopia. Unfortunately, all that was about to change.
One day I woke up in a gray fog. Thinking I was still dreaming, I
tried to go back to sleep, only to realize I was suffocating. I was so
scared. I quickly jumped out of my bed to see what was happening. It was
then that I saw the smoke seeping from my bedroom door. In a panic, I tried
to escape through the window, forgeting that I was on the second floor.
Realizing that I couldn't exactly jump from the window, I abandoned that
idea. Then I went from the window to the door and opened it up. Flames shot
out at me and licked my hide. There was no other escape, so I forced my way
through the door, feeling the sharp pain through my body. I managed to make
my way down the stairs and found my owner, collapsed at the bottom of the
stairs. I nuzzled her but she didn't move. I kept nuzzling her but she just
laid there. The flames were beginning to crawl down the stairs so in a final
attempt to save my owner I tried to get her on my back. She was so limp, I
don't even think she was breathing. My efforts were in vain, because she
slid off my back every time. I looked back up the stairs to see that the
flames had spread rapidly and had almost reached me. I ran out of the house
and went to find help. My brothers and sisters were outside watching the
house burn. Suddenly, the house collapsed and I knew that all hope was gone.
The firefighters arrived a few minutes later, they were too late. I
watched as they slowly put out the flames, and then I stared at the pile of
ruble that once was my home. A peophin came slowly over to me and asked if
anyone else was in the house. "My owner,"I said desperately, "My owner was
in the house!" The peophin just looked at me and slowly shook his head.
"I'm sorry," he said. The shock of it all hit me hard, and it felt as if
someone reached into me and tore out my heart. All I could do was cry.
We didn't have insurance on the house, so we were bankrupt and had
nothing left. The neopet pound came a few days later and took my brothers
and sisters and I away. They didn't ask any questions, they just put us all
in seperate cages with some food and water. It was so dark there, I cried
every day, because I missed my owner and by brothers and sisters. People
came and went, but they mostly adopted the painted pets, or the ones that
were higher in level or strength. There were also many Chombys there, so if
people wanted to adopt one, they had a large selection to choose from. One
day a woman came and adopted my disco painted brother. I couldn't do
anything but sit in my cage and watch her carry my brother away. I felt so
helpless. A few weeks later though, something amazing and wonderful happened.
I was sleeping in my cage when I awoke suddenly to someone tapping on
my cage. I looked up and saw a young girl looking down on me. She smiled
and opened up my cage, then she took me out and picked me up. I hugged her
and let my face unwind into a huge grin. My owner says that my smile
literally took up my whole face. She took me home with her and showed me the
room she had prepared for me. It was a soft blue, with clouds painted on the
ceiling. It was so warm and cozy! It had a big bed in one corner with
purple covers and blue pillows. There was a big bookcase, and a big toychest
filled with all new toys. My paws felt so nice against the lavender carpet,
compared to the cold grey steel of the pound floor.
A few months later my owner asked me if I would like a brother or
sister. I immediately told her I would love one, so the next day we took a
trip to the pound. There was a pretty rainbow Shoyru there, and I knew she
has rare. My owner asked me if that was the pet I would like. I told her
no, because I knew she would get a good home, but a not so rare pet might
not. We continued down the rows of cages, until we came upon a red Chomby
cowering in the corner of a cage. I nodded to my owner and she opened up
cage. I went in and sat next to the wimpering Chomby. I told him that it
was OK, that my owner was going to adopt him and I was going to be his big
brother. He still looked scared so I told him that I too was adopted from
the pound, and that he shouldn't be frightened anymore. He finally looked up
at me and walked out of the cage with me. We went home and he has been my
best friend ever since.
The next day my owner took us to the rainbow pool and painted me
Clouds, and Jack disco. We are both really happy, and we love our owner. I
will never ever forget my old owner though. Jack has yet to tell us why he
was abandoned, but I think he will soon. I know how hard it is to talk about
your old life, so thats why I'm not going to talk to him about it until he's
ready.
Do you see now how I can help pets? I am trying to spread the
message to adopt pets, and not just the painted or strong ones, but the
frightened, cowering pets in the pound. If I can make just one person go out
and adopt a pet, then I have accomplished my goal. So, go out, adopt a pet
in need. You will never forget it, and neither will your pet.
