Chapter 9: Light at the End of the Tunnel

The gang tries to find a way through the mysterious door within the tunnel, but it seems to be locked by some kind of ancient device. This shortcut may not turn out to be as short as they were hoping!

Sorry Nyx, I’m a little lost. How does combining colours help us get through this chamber?
Tavi
Tavi
Wait a second… the lock!
Nyx
Nyx
Exactly! Tavi’s got it.
Tavi
Tavi
Take a closer look at the letters repeating across the lock! That’s what clued me in.
Luxinia
Luxinia
ROYGBI… Is that another kind of code?
Baelia
Baelia
Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet… They are all the colours of the rainbow!
Nyx
Nyx
You all catch on quick! I think we can open that massive lock around the pillar by mixing our colours correctly.
Baelia
Baelia
I’d like to help with this one!
Tavi
Tavi
Ha, look at you, B! What’s got you so fired up?
Baelia
Baelia
I think a colour puzzle sounds fun is all. Reminds me of the novas flying through the sky back home…
Tavi
Tavi
Well, I’m just happy to see you excited. Let’s solve this together.
Luxinia
Luxinia
I can try to lend a hand too! I’m pretty good at matching colours, although I’m not sure if that will help much here…
Juni
Juni
Yip yip!
Nyx
Nyx
Thank you, all of you. Together, I bet we will solve this puzzle just as fast as the last one!

Passage Puzzle

The second Passage Puzzle was a colour mixing conundrum. This type of puzzle involved mixing the colour splotches to discover the answer to the pillar lock mechanism. It also served as a test of strength (that Nyx cleared nearly single-handedly)!

Color Cryptogram Puzzle: 4 swatches of colors. Each color swatch is described below.

Answer: Mixing the colour splotches correctly revealed they were Violet, Indigo, Green, and Orange. By taking the first letter of each colour in the order they appear around the pillar, Nyx and the group were able to determine that the code to the lock mechanism was “VIGO”.

Puzzle Solution:

First swatch of colors: equally blue and red
VIOLET
Second swatch of colors: mostly blue with a bit of red
INDIGO
Third swatch of colors: mostly yellow with a bit of blue
GREEN
Fourth swatch of colors: equally yellow and red
ORANGE
