Scaredy Acaraby anaid_wokrak Ally sat up with a start, breathing heavily. What was that noise? Terrified, she flung the covers from the bed and raced out of the room, down the hall and into her brother's room. There, she launched herself into his bed and burrowed under the covers. "Ally!" Her brother cried, sitting up in his bed. He pulled the blanket off Ally's head and glared at her. "What are you doing?" Ally whimpered and said, "I heard noises. I think there are monsters in my room!" Arvin sighed and got out of bed. Taking his sister by the arm, he lead her down the hall back to her room. "Alright Ally, where are they?" Ally pointed to her closet and Arvin strode across the room then flung open the door. With a sigh, he turned to Ally and said, "Ally, monsters aren't real, remember?" Ally went to her bed and sat down, hugging her arms to her chest. "I heard noises and got scared. I thought there were monsters." Arvin joined his sister on the bed and sighed. "I know you get scared Ally, but you know monsters don't exist." Ally leaned against her brother, feeling miserable. "I know they don't, but when it gets dark I hear noises and I get scared." Arvin stood and faced his sister. "What if I taught you to be brave like me?" Ally looked up at her brother and beamed. "Would you really teach me?" Arvin smiled, "Of course. Now go to bed and we'll start first thing tomorrow." With that, Arvin tucked his sister in, kissed her goodnight and went back to bed. The next morning, Ally's training began. "Whenever you hear those noises," Arvin said, "the first thing you need to do is stand up and puff out your chest. This makes the monsters know you mean business." When Ally had practiced that part, Arvin continued. "Next, tell the monsters that you're not afraid in a really loud voice, like this." Arvin took a huge breath and roared, "I'm not afraid of you! Now you try." Ally took a big breath and yelled at the top of her voice, "I'm not afraid of you!" Arvin gave her an approving smile. "Good job! Now, whenever you get scared, do that and the monsters will go away." That night, Ally became doubtful. Everything was much scarier at night and she didn't feel very brave. Suddenly, she heard noises coming from outside the door. Just like her brother taught her, Ally jumped up, puffed out her chest and yelled really loud, "I'm not afraid of you!" When she didn't hear anything, Ally flopped back down on her bed and sighed. It felt good to be brave! Outside Ally's door, her brother Arvin quietly crept back to his room and climbed into bed. His chest swelled with pride for Ally. She'd done it!
