Quote of the Week
Time erases everything, including those lessons, those memories. Until there’s nothing left but the pieces of ourselves that we desperately cling to, despite not fully realizing why. Those fragments, they make us who we are.
The Magic Exams Of The Magic Schools
In Neopia magic feels as commonplace as water. But don’t be fooled, though the presence of all those Faeries, wizards, and witches would make you think otherwise, the ability to use magic is a rare ability not easily learned let alone to master. It’s for this very reason that schools of magic were formed all around Neopia. However each magic school is not the same (some aren’t even exclusively magic schools), and there’s no better way to explain this than revealing their exam methods. And I’m not talking about written exams as I go over |
The Darkest Faerie Phenomenon: Are We Really Safe?
Since the rediscovery of Altador in Year 7, we Neopians have been dealing with a very serious evil known as the Darkest Faerie. It’s said that she is the most powerful, yet dangerous, faerie in all the lands, and this journalist is in complete agreement. This leads to the fact that they question whether or not the protectors of Neopia are even able to adequately protect it. There are some exceptionally powerful faeries (and other fabled heroes) that favor goodness and justice, but can we really count on their magic and heroic deeds to keep Neopia safe from her tyranny? |
| Life After the Curse
This article first appeared in “The Faerieland Gazette.”
After successfully weakening the Darkest Faerie and addressing the Wraith Resurgence, Queen Fyora was eager to get back to Faerieland affairs. However, with the thought of The Darkest Faerie in the back of her mind, it became difficult for her to conduct business as usual.
Although Taelia did the best she could to reverse the effects of The Darkest Faerie’s curse, Queen Fyora still felt it lingering. Her magical powers were weakened, and at times, the curse would cause darker thoughts to surface. |

"Regar and the Potion
" by butterflybandage The light from the fire was just bright enough to illuminate Regar’s desk. The parchments were rolled up onto each other, the wet ink smearing at the corners. The fire also shone an orange light onto the other fixtures of Regar’s home: the tall bookshelf filled with every magic book under the sun, potions that had been passed down from masters to apprentices for thousands of years, specimens that seemed to move when just out of eyeshot, a rusty kettle atop an old wooden end table, a thick shaggy coat that hung on the wall beside an intricate walking stick, and, finally, a musty cot, taken from an abandoned cabin and covered with moss to add comfort. This little cot was where Regar rested, the uncomfortable bed the place he laid his head to collect his thoughts.
Regar was old. He had taught many wizards and wizardesses over the years, and his antiquated teaching methods were becoming less and less sought after. These days, everyone wanted to be a ninja or a pirate or—Fyora forbid—a beauty contestant. Regar didn’t quite understand when the world had changed, but it did—and it was sudden, inexplicable, unforgiving. Time used to morph and bend at Regar’s will, but now it couldn’t quite seem to give him a chance to catch up. |
"Paranoia" by likelife96 Note: This is a follow-up to the series Duplicity published from issues 710-721. You do not need to have read it to understand the story, but it does help to make more sense as to what's going on.
Danner leaned on his desk and rubbed his temples, hoping to coax his blasting headache away. A tiny trail of steam from a piping hot cup of tea wafted slowly toward his head, imparting a most metallic and bitter scent. He did not particularly enjoy tea, let alone this mauled abomination that the castle's potion-master had brewed for him, but it did work for its intended purpose, presumably.
And without it, he could not quite focus on a single thing, not even his pain, which, of course, was little more than a sensation. Sensations existed purely inside of his head, and well, you could never trust your own perceptions. They were little more than a flawed imitation of reality, pieces of an otherwise-crumbling mosaic, a tiny sliver of light shining through a cave. Everybody knew this to be technically true. They moved on with their lives as usual, brushing off this miniscule doubt, accepting that an imperfect model was still an adequate representation of the world. Not Danner. He couldn't stop thinking about this point at all. |
"They Did Not Speak" by skutterbotched Some parts of this short story will make little sense unless you read And the Sky Was Alight.
"A rt thou casting thine Spell properly?” was all it took for me to silence Amulatt. Really, all I wanted was just a moment’s peace from the Eventide Peophin’s incessant questioning, and I got it.
Except one moment turned into a week turned into a month. It was, admittedly, a nice month. I did get a few raised eyebrows from our other housemates, and Aerlliin followed me around for the first week berating me on the proper use of magic and how what I’d done was super irresponsible. After I threatened to do the same to her, she backed off. Very few even knew what I’d done since it’s not like Amulatt does a whole lot of talking to them, anyway. So I didn’t get in trouble for it.
Well, not until an evening reading session with Flutter. Amulatt walked past us, glaring at me.
“Rayneance. What did you do.” It wasn’t a question, it was a demand to know exactly what I’d done to the small Peophin. She didn’t even demand this of me over the edges of her book- she actually put the book down to address me. I knew I was in deep trouble. With her raven colored hair shadowing her face, I couldn’t see her expression. This put my anxiety levels right up there with when someone says ‘we need to talk.’ |

Neopian Spells: who, what, where, why and how? Spells are powerful things, though not to be confused for spelling (although the correct spelling in casting spells is usually a requirement, some terrible fates have befallen Neopians who have accidentally spelled something wrong whilst casting their spell – for example the poor Lupe who was trying to make a new aisle in his shop and accidentally created a small isle to appear off the coast of Meridell), so both spells and spelling are powerful tools and can be misused in the wrong hands.

The young Zafara does not hail from Meridell, she has called it her home since traveling through a time portal with her friends. Kayla was born in Neopia Central, where she would spend her days hanging around Kauvara’s potion shop. She has always been fascinated by magic and potion making. When she wasn’t browsing the shelves of Kauvara’s Magic Shop, she was reading books on how to brew potions.
