The Lost Usuki Doll

by safira_2002

--------

Neopia Central. It was a cheerful morning, with the sun shining through the clouds, painting them in every colour of the rainbow. Beekadoodles, Whoots, and Weewoos played tag in the sky, while in Neopian Plaza, a sweet Spardel chased a mischievous Warf that had stolen its toy bone.

Nearby, in a colourful Neohome decorated mainly in pink and purple and surrounded by a large blooming garden, Daisy, the Usukigirl Usul, was in her bedroom with her beloved Petpet. Both were carefully getting ready for a major Usuki event taking place that very day. The Usul brushed her long, silky purple-and-green hair with a Pink Sparkly Brush, applied Sparkling Usuki Eye Shadow, Subtle Blush, and Sparkling Usuki Lipstick, and finished with her favourite fragrance, Kaias Floral Perfume. She wore a pink dress with a purple belt and a pair of bright, eye-catching pink high heels. As for accessories, she was still trying to decide which ones to wear.

There were so many options, from earrings and brooches to bracelets and hair clips. Daisy chose the Dyeworks Green: Pastel Blue Hair Bow for her hair and the Pink Usul Bow for her long tail, both of which added a delicate touch and matched her outfit perfectly. Her wardrobe was complete, filled with every variety of tops, dresses, pants, skirts, and, of course, shoes—especially high heels, which were her favourites.

Daisy was the most fashionable Usukigirl Usul in all of Neopia. She lived with her Petpet Ivy, a Royal Mauket who also loved dressing up and looking her best. They were best friends, practically sisters! They did everything together and shared many interests... especially their love of Usuki dolls! They had been Daisy's favorite toys since childhood and even inspired her to become the owner of the largest Usuki collection in the region.

Her collection included Usuki dolls of all kinds, such as the Magical Hair Usuki, the Negg Faerie Usuki Doll, and the Collectors Edition Usuki Doll, considered the rarest and most exclusive of all Usukis.

The collection also featured Usuki-themed items such as the Usuki Paint Brush, the Usukigirl Wig, and the Usuki Doll Mystery Capsule, which offers the chance to obtain an exclusive Usuki Wearable, with the Meridell Usuki Queen Wearable being Daisy's favorite.

But Daisy's most treasured Usuki item was far from being one of the most coveted dolls among Neopians. The Usul held a deep affection for her Baby Handheld Usuki Doll, a small, adorable, delicate Usuki doll. Daisy had received it as a gift when she was a child, and from that day on, she never let it out of her sight. She ate beside it, slept hugging it, and played with it all the time. It was safe to say the two were inseparable!

The years passed. Daisy grew up, met and adopted Ivy, and began building her impressive Usuki collection. The Baby Handheld Usuki Doll was eventually set aside, but the Usul never forgot about it. She took great care of it to keep it from wearing out over time. After all, besides being her faithful companion, it had been the greatest inspiration for her passion for collecting Usuki items. Daisy decided not to place it on one of the many shelves in her collection because it held immense sentimental value — it belonged only to her. Instead, she acquired another identical doll for her display and carefully stored away the one that had accompanied her throughout her life.

Her love for Usukis never let her forget about the Annual Usuki Doll Convention, better known as Usukicon, the biggest and most important Usuki event of all. It was a grand celebration filled with exhibits, interviews, performances, and, of course, giveaways and raffles, with the highly sought-after Usukicon Bags containing exclusive random prizes. As the number one fan of Usuki dolls, Daisy didn't hesitate to purchase passes for herself and her beloved Petpet as soon as ticket sales opened, since attendance was limited. They were both excitedly preparing for what promised to be the biggest convention yet.

"Just one more touch of blush... There! I'm ready for Usukicon, Ivy!" Daisy said proudly, admiring her completed look.

"Wow, you look beautiful!" Ivy complimented her as she sprayed on a little more perfume. "What do you think of the outfit I chose? I couldn't decide between this green dress and the red satin set."

"Thank you! And you look perfect, as always! That dress suits you so well," Daisy replied with a smile.

"Aw, thanks," Ivy answered, blushing. "Well, I don't think we're forgetting anything. We can go."

"Oh, wait... I still haven't grabbed my Baby Handheld Usuki Doll. I decided to bring it with me to this year's event," Daisy said as she searched through her bedroom cabinets without success.

"I'll be right back!" the Usul exclaimed before running through the house in search of the doll. Meanwhile, Ivy added a few final touches to her makeup.

Several minutes passed, and Daisy still hadn't returned.

"Hmm... she's taking a long time. At this rate, we're going to be late," Ivy muttered before deciding to look for her friend.

She walked through the house calling Daisy's name until she heard noises coming from the attic, which was packed with old furniture, cleaning supplies, and countless boxes. There she found the Usul rummaging through boxes of every size.

"Where is it? It has to be here!" Daisy lamented, refusing to give up her search.

"Daisy? Why are you digging through all this? We have to leave soon," Ivy asked worriedly. "Be careful — it's so dusty up here. You'll get your outfit dirty!"

"I can't find it. I thought it was in my room, but it wasn't... These boxes are my last hope," the Usul replied sadly.

"Are you sure you looked carefully? If you want, I can go check your room again!"

"I did. It wasn't in the closets. I've searched the whole house. The attic was the only room I hadn't checked, so it has to be here!" Daisy answered as she searched through another box.

The Royal Mauket paused to think.

"Hmm... I think I know where it is. I'll be right back," Ivy said before hurrying away, concerned about the time.

She headed to the gallery where Daisy's grand Usuki collection was displayed. There she spotted the doll inside one of the largest display cases, surrounded by baby-themed Usuki items.

"Aha! I knew it was here!" Ivy exclaimed as she picked it up and hurried back.

     "Here, Daisy! I found it!"

"Oh, thank Neopia! I was beginning to think I'd lost it," the Usul sighed with relief as she hugged the doll. "Where was it?"

"In the collection. I remember seeing it there a few days ago."

"Wait... in the collection?" Daisy asked in surprise. "Then this isn't my childhood doll... This is the one I bought specifically for the collection! Look, it's practically brand new, and it doesn't have the little mark I made on the heart it's holding."

"Oh... I guess I was mistaken. Sorry," Ivy said, slightly embarrassed.

"Don't worry. You were only trying to help, and I appreciate that," Daisy reassured her. "Let's put it back in the gallery and keep looking."

The friends returned to the collection room, and Daisy carefully placed the doll back in its display case. They searched the rest of the house without any success. Daisy became discouraged, convinced she had lost her childhood doll forever, while Ivy tried to comfort her, hiding her own concern about the time.

"Let's think this through. When was the last time you saw it?" Ivy asked.

"I don't really remember... I only know I left it on my bed, resting on the pillow, but I can't remember when," Daisy replied nervously, clutching her Golden Flower Necklace.

"Okay, then we have a clue. It has to be in your room. Let's check one more time."

"It's no use, Ivy. I've looked everywhere. It's not there."

"But if it's not there, where could it be? Unless it ran away from home on its own," Ivy joked.

     Daisy looked at her thoughtfully.

The Usul remembered something that had happened years earlier while playing with the doll. She explained that she always loved dressing it up while dressing herself. One day, after they finished playing, she placed the doll on her bed and began putting away its tiny outfits. The moment she set it on the pillow, the doll began glowing with a brilliant magical light. Then, in the blink of an eye, it vanished completely. Daisy searched for it for days without finding it. After some time had passed, however, the doll mysteriously reappeared on her bed exactly where she had left it.

"Wow... What a story! Do you have any idea what might have happened?" Ivy asked curiously.

"I have no idea. To this day, I still don't know the truth. I even convinced myself I'd imagined the glowing and had hidden it without realising it... But what you just said has me thinking."

     "What do you mean?"

"What if this doll is magical?"

Ivy was surprised by the suggestion and paused to think.

"Hmm... It's possible. After all, it disappeared the same way today, didn't it?"

"Yes, and there's something else. Sometimes I felt like it brought me good luck. Whenever I carried it with me, something wonderful always seemed to happen, almost like magic," Daisy said dreamily.

The two thought for a moment before reaching the same conclusion.

"I think I know where we'll find it. Come on!" Ivy exclaimed as she grabbed her bag and convention pass before rushing toward the door with Daisy.

The two climbed into their car and drove to the Annual Usuki Doll Convention, held at the Usuki Convention Centre in Faerieland.

They arrived just as the host welcomed everyone and officially opened Usukicon. The venue was packed with Neopians exploring stands featuring clothing, makeup, food, decorations, and, above all, Usuki dolls. Celebrities gave interviews, fans took photos of the exhibits, bought souvenirs, and entered raffles for Usukicon Bags.

"Wow! This year's event is absolutely gorgeous!" Ivy exclaimed while admiring the countless booths.

"It really is! But come on — I know where we'll find it," Daisy said as she headed straight toward the Usuki doll section, her favourite part of Usukicon.

There, the Usul spotted her Baby Handheld Usuki Doll standing in the centre of a large display shelf, surrounded by Usukis and glowing as if by magic. The closer she got, the brighter the little doll shone.

"There it is!!" Daisy cried. "The mark I made on the heart—the letter 'D' for Daisy! Oh, how I've searched for you!" The Usukigirl Usul sighed as she embraced the doll.

"Phew! What a relief. We finally found it!" Ivy celebrated happily. "But I still don't understand how it ended up here..."

"I don't know either, but I think it wanted us to visit this aisle first," Daisy joked, still hugging her precious doll. "You were right — it came here on its own."

"But how? It's just a baby doll... How could it possibly be magical?" Ivy asked, completely puzzled.

"I don't think we need to understand. What matters is that we're all together now — the three of us," the Usul replied emotionally.

"You're right," said the Petpet. "Come on, we still have so much to enjoy today. This event is going to be amazing!"

"Now you're talking!" Daisy said as she followed her friend toward the centre of the convention hall.

Daisy and Ivy explored every stand, admiring the Usuki displays. There were Usuki dolls, costume sets, toys, clothing, accessories, exclusive coins and stamps, and countless other themed items. They chatted with celebrities, bought souvenirs, and even won a few Usukicon Bags through raffles and games.

After everything that had happened with the doll, the Usul and the Mauket became even closer, always helping and supporting each other whenever needed. Together, they continued expanding Daisy's Usuki collection, which grew so famous that visitors from every corner of Neopia came to admire it. Eventually, the two friends even created their own Usukicon inside their home.

And it was all thanks to a little help from Daisy's tiny doll... which was magical... or perhaps not. Who knows?

     The End.
