Jhudora's Curse

by she_chose_love

--------

Healing Springs is a magical place that has been around for as long as anyone can remember. For centuries neopets have been traveling from all over to take a dip in Healing Springs and be cured of anything and everything. It is a vital part of Faerieland, as the magic of Healing Springs has helped so many Neopets for such a long time by healing them, as well as providing them with healing potions.

As magical as Healing Springs is, there was one time the magic of it went terribly wrong. It all started when the water faerie who runs healing springs was sick and had her friend Lily fill in for her for the day while she rested and focused on getting better.

Lily was a young faerie, she was sweet as can be but she got distracted very easily. Lily got on Jhudora’s bad side by accidently bumping into her because she was distracted by two doglefoxes rolling around playfully in a patch of grass.

“Hey! Watch it klutz!” Yelled Jhudora as she fell backwards.

“Oh my gosh! I am so sorry!” cried Lily. “I wasn’t paying attention to where I was going. I am so sorry, it was a complete accident.”

“Accidents don’t exist,” laughed Jhudora. “You are clumsy and now you must pay the price.”

“I am so sorry,” said Lily. “Please forgive me!”

“Sorry doesn’t cut it!” Jhudora said waving her arms. “I see you are in charge of The Healing Springs, that makes punishing you easy!”

      “Please don’t,” pleaded Lily.

“Too late!” laughed Jhudora. “The Healing Springs in now cursed. There are now only eighty uses left in the springs, and after that it will heal using my magic. Once my magic has taken hold of the waters, there will be no way for you to fix it. After all, you do not possess the love to reverse my curse.”

“What does that even mean?” Asked Lily.

“I guess you will just have to wait and see." Said Jhudora with a laugh as she disappeared in a puff of smoke.

“Oh no!” thought Lily to herself. “This is really bad. I don’t know what I am going to do.”

So the day went on and neopets kept coming and taking a dip in The Healing Springs. With each neopet that jumped into the springs Lily got more and more nervous. “It has got to be close to eighty by now.” thought Lily to herself, the worry showing on her face.

Lily was interrupted from her thoughts by some air shattering screeches. Looking over towards the water Lily was horrified at what she saw. Getting out of The Healing Springs was a group of 5 Mortogs. Lily’s worst fear had been confirmed. It turns out eighty neopets had dipped into the springs and now it was being controlled by Jhudora's magic. It seemed that every neopet who dipped into the springs now came out as a Mortog.

“What happened to me? I am so ugly, and no longer a Uni!” Said a Mortog.

“No one go in the springs,” warned Lily, “Jhudora has put a curse on the waters and anyone who goes in will come out as a Mortog.”

While Lily was warning the group of neopets closest to her, a group of twenty more neopets jumped into the springs. Que the ear shattering screams. The scene was horrible. Mortogs were jumping around everywhere and screaming. Everyone who was near The Healing Springs was panicking and Lily felt awful because she knew this was all her fault.

“What do I do, what do I do?” said Lily to herself, taking a deep breath and trying to pull herself together. "The one time I had a big responsibility, I go and mess it up. I need to fix this but how?”

“AHHHHHHHHHH!” More screams pulled Lily out of her thoughts and to her horror there were now at least sixty Mortogs running around screaming. All Lily could see was Mortogs everywhere she looked. The first thing she had to do was stop anyone else from jumping into The Healing Springs.

“ATTENTION EVERYONE!” Yelled Lily, “can I have everyone’s attention please?”

A hush fell over the crowd of Mortogs and everyone turned to face Lily.

“As all of you can see we have a crisis happening,” began Lily, “Jhudora has put a curse on The Healing Springs and anyone who goes into it will turn into a Mortog. So please everyone, stay out of the springs. We need to work together to make sure no one else goes into the water. Please everyone spread out around the whole outside of the water and if you see any neopets, do not let them into the water no matter what.”

Everyone nodded in agreement and began to spread out around the edge of the water.

Lily paced back and forth, “there has to be some way to reverse the curse.” She said to herself. “Think Lily, think, how can this be fixed?” Then it hit her, Lily remembered her conversation with Jhudora earlier that day. “Before Jhudora left she said I do not possess the love to reverse her curse, what does that mean? Can love reverse the curse? How can I show love, what does that even mean.”

Lily's thoughts were interrupted by her mother’s voice. “Hi Sweetie,” said Lily’s mom. “I feel so sick and really need to jump into The Healing Springs. I fear I have a bad case of neomonia and need to be cured before it gets any worse.”

Lily looked at her mother, she was so pale and did not look well at all, the words she was about to say broke her heart. “Mom,” said Lily. “I love you so much, but I can’t let you jump into The Healing Springs. They are currently closed because Jhudora put a curse on them, it is all my fault and I am so sorry.”

“Honey,” said Lily’s mom, “I feel so weak, please let me go into the water.”

“Mom, I can’t,” said Lily with tears streaming down her face. “I am so sorry.”

Ignoring Lily's warning, her mother walked passed her towards the water.

“Mom, no!” Screamed Lily, running after her mother.

Just as Lily’s mom was about to jump into the water, Lily dove at her pushing her out of the way. With a splash Lily fell into the water.

“Oh no!” cried a nearby Mortog.

While Lily was still under the water something crazy started to happen. Suddenly all of the water began to glow the most blinding shade of pink imaginable. All of the Mortogs around the waters edges began to glow as well. With a boom the glowing stopped and everything was still. Lily came up from being under the water and took a look around. The water of The Healing Springs was sparkling like it did when it was magical, Lily was still herself and all of the Mortogs around were back to the neopets they were supposed to be. It looked like Jhudora’s curse was reversed.

“Mom, I think the water is safe now,” said Lily helping her mother into the water.

“I feel so much better,” said Lily’s mother.

“Everyone, the springs are back to normal,” said Lily happily, “the curse is over.”

A cheer erupted through the crowd. Everyone was happy things were back to the way they should be. But how could Lily going into the water instead of her mother make Jhudora’s curse go away? Well you see, the only way to reverse the curse was by an act of love. Lily refused to let her mother go into the water out of fear for what may happen. Instead Lily ended up in the water herself, which was an act of love. Lily ultimately sacrificed her well-being for her mother’s out of love, and the magic of love was strong enough to reverse Jhudora’s curse. I guess the old saying really is true, all you need is love.

      The End.

Unlikely Friends
Royce the Elderly Bruce had spent the first half of his life carrying a sack of mail from one Neohome to another and delivering messages. His assigned locality had been in the suburbs of Neopian Central, and he’d known the area like the back of his right flipper. Each day he’d trudged down the same streets, waved hello to the same group of gossiping Unis trotting down Usuki Avenue, and made his way past a half-dozen Lupes out by their decks. That was all a lifetime ago, before Royce had been swept up in the glamorous world of petpet shows.
