The Most Elite Petpets in Neopia

by scubadove

--------

Today, I'd like to talk about some of the most elite Petpets in Neopia. What makes a Petpet "elite", you may ask? Well, I consider any Petpet that has never restocked in a Neopian shop to be elite. These Petpets are, or perhaps were, only obtainable by participating in certain plots, accomplishing a task, or by other unusual means. In this article, I'll be telling you exactly how you can get one of these Petpets for yourself, as well as some basic information about them and fun facts.

If you find that you're unable to get one of these Petpets on your own, you always have the option of trying to buy one from someone who's willing to part with theirs. Because of their rarity, many of these Petpets will fetch a high price, so be sure that your pockets are deep before you decide to buy one. For many of these Petpets, their appearances on the Trading Post and Auction House may be few and far between. If you're determined enough, though, you might just be able to find one. My recommendation would be to ask the friendly folks on the Trading/Auctions Neoboard. With some luck, you may be able to find someone willing to part with theirs.

Now, let's get started, shall we?

Patamoose

Our list of elite Petpets begins with the Patamoose. This cotton candy colored Petpet would be a cute companion for your Baby or Pastel Neopet. Patamoose aren't exactly known for their quick wit or intelligence, but if you're looking for a Petpet with a gentle, easy going nature, then you should consider one of these guys. They can be painted 5 different colors at the Petpet Puddle, if you aren't a fan of the pink and blue coloration. Painted or not, all Patamoose have those distinctive tusks.

How to get one: If you're able to successfully navigate your way through the Faerie Caverns, then you may just find a Patamoose as your prize. You can try to find the cavern's treasure once a day, after throwing 400 NP into the water flowing out of the cave.

Fun fact: The Cartogriphication boon will give your pet the ability to guide you through the Faerie Caverns to the treasure! If you back the Order of the Red Erisim in the Battleground of the Obelisk skirmishes and they emerge victorious, you will be able to select this boon.

Pygui

Don't let the sharp tusks intimidate you! This Shenkuu native is renowned for their charismatic nature, and many consider them to be quite noble creatures. Pygui can be a little hot headed at times, but overall make for a rewarding Petpet for a Neopet that wants a noble companion. They are easily recognizable with their bright red coloration, but they can also be painted seven other colors at the Petpet puddle.

How to get one: Once a day, the wise Gnorbu in the Lunar Temple will ask you to determine the phase of Kreludor. If you are able to give him the correct answer, then he just might send you home with a Pygui!

Fun fact: No matter what color you paint a Pygui, they will always retain the crimson stripe down their back. The only exception when you paint a Pygui faerie - then the stripe turns hot pink.

Bartamus

While the Bartamus may look imposing, it can actually be great a friend for your pet, as long as it decides that they're worth it's affections. Once they decide that they like their new owner, they are fiercely loyal companions, and will happily accompany your pet on any and all adventures. They share a color scheme with Jhudora, but you can also choose from many different Petpet paint brushes if you'd rather give them a different look.

How to get one: A Bartamus will be given to you upon completion of Jhudora's 41st quest. But beware - at that point, she will only ask you for items that have a rarity of 99, so completing this many quests without fail is no easy feat!

Fun fact: A Bartamus may look like a vampire, but these Petpets aren't bothered by garlic or sunlight, and they have no problem seeing their reflection in a mirror.

Xampher

You may recognize this little ball of fur and teeth from the game Snow Roller, where Xamphers can be seen unleashing giant snowballs down Terror Mountain. This little minion of the snow beast is a bit of a trouble maker, but might be a good fit for a discerning pet that can appreciate their mischievous nature. Just be sure to keep any valuables far away from this Petpet - Xamphers are notorious for their habit of chewing on things. Xamphers cannot be painted in the Petpet Puddle, but it is possible to get a Chocolate one from the Petpet Lab Ray.

How to get one: These Petpets are awarded randomly when you send a score from Snow Roller, although you might have to play for a while to get one.

Fun fact: If you want the ultimate pet-and-Petpet match, give your Halloween Poogle a Xampher as a Petpet. Halloween Poogles are dressed up like a snow beast, which are a Xampher's ideal friend.

Blorbis

There aren't too many who would consider this Petpet to be cute or cuddly. The Blorbis has a short and stout body with dark green skin and red eyes, and no fur to speak of. While you don't have to worry about them shedding, you should be prepared for a certain, erm, odor. Blorbis are notorious for being unhygenic creatures, so your pet must be prepared to give them regular baths. They can only be painted one other color - Tyrannian.

How to get one: If you supported the pirates in the Curse of Maraqua plot, then you would have had the option of getting a Blorbis from the prize shop. If you were a warrior, supported Maraqua, or didn't participate in this plot, then you'll have to find someone who's willing to part with theirs.

Fun fact: If you simply can't get used to their idea of a hairless Petpet, consider painting them Tyrannian. Tyrannian Blorbis have shaggy, grey fur, although this doesn't make them any less smelly...

Marafin

It's easy to tell if a Marafin is in a good mood - just keep your ears open for the sound of their happy gurgling! Marafins are extremely playful, and are big fans of the game Petpet Plunge, where they can be seen hunting for shells. These Petpets make great friends for aquatic neopets, and will happy swim alongside your pet everywhere they go. They cannot be painted any other colors.

How to get one: Like the Blorbus, this Petpet was a prize for the Curse of Maraqua plot. If you aligned yourself as a supporter of Maraqua in the Curse of Maraqua plot, then you could trade in your points for a Marafin.

Fun fact: If your pet wants to show their love these Petpets, consider getting them a Marafin Hat! This stylish headwear will show everyone just how much your pet loves their Marafin.

Captive Shadow Wraith

If you battled against wraiths in the Faerie's Ruin Plot, then you may be surprised to learn that your pet can have a wraith of their own! The Captive Shadow Wraith is not as strong at the ones you went head to head against in the Battledome, but all the same, your pet will need to keep a close eye on this Petpet. Captive Shadow Wraiths will still take any opportunity to cause trouble, so this Petpet won't be a good fit for a pet that wouldn't be able to handle that sort of responsibility. They cannot be painted other colors, but would look great next to any Wraith Neopet in their unpainted state.

How to get one: You can exchange your points for a Captive Shadow Wraith in the Faerie's Ruin Prize Shop. If you didn't earn enough points or didn't participate in this plot, you should be able to find one at the Trading Post or Auction House.

Fun Fact: Captive Shadow Wraiths are great bakers. Who knew?

Tamed Mini-Monster

This little blue Petpet will look familiar to those of you that participated in the Spooky Food Eating Contest plot. If, while trying to capture the monster, you ever found yourself thinking about how you'd like to have one of your own, well, you're in luck! It turns out that Scarlet was not the only one of these creatures, and it's possible for your pet to have one as a Petpet. Tamed Mini-Monsters make for hardy companions, but can be a little destructive if your pet isn't able to keep up with their training. They cannot be painted other colors.

How to get one: The Tamed Mini-Monster was given out as a prize for participating in the Spooky Food Eating Contest. If you did not participate in that plot, then you can try to buy one off of another user. Try looking in the Trading Post or Auction House.

Fun fact: If your Tames Mini-Monster ever starts to throw a tantrum, you can lull it into a peaceful slumber by playing the music from certain musical flowers. You may want to ask Kell where to find them!

Peedleedoo

These adorable Petpets are the ultimate companion for Maraquan pets! Thanks to their fins and tentacles, Peedleedoos are great swimmers, and are capable of reaching great speeds in the water. Peedleedoos are brightly colored Petpets, with purple faces, aqua blue fins, and an orange body and tentacles. If you have an aquatic Neopet that won't settle for anything but the most elite Petpets, try suggesting a Peedledoo. These Petpets cannot be painted other colors.

How to get one: Peedleedoos can be awarded when you redeem an item code on Curse of Maraqua packs from the Neopets TCG.

Fun fact: The Peedleedoo was featured by the Petpet Protection League back in week 312. At the time, only 5 of these Petpets were recorded by the PPL, which is a testament to their rarity!

If you're looking for a subtle way to show off your skills or affluence, consider adding one of these Petpets to your Neopet family. Of course, the most important thing is the bond between your pet and their Petpet. Your pet might be just as happy with relatively common, so don't worry if you're unable to come across some of these Petpets. Thanks for reading, and I hope I was able to introduce you to some new Petpet species!
