Interviewing the White Weewoo

by scechoi

--------

Few petpets can claim the notoriety that the Neopian Times White Weewoo(NTWW) has. I know that, growing up as a young Neopian, I always assumed that all Weewoos were white. Fortunately, I was later enlightened by the Petpet Puddle. Not only is their color scheme iconic, but NTWW has been lucky enough to bear witness of each and every single issue of the Neopian Times. They've witnessed each Neopian holiday from a completely different perspective of articles and comics humorously and seriously addressing the issues, seen hundreds of stories come to completion, and seen the... interesting things that Neopians throw when asking a question in an editorial. Not only that, but he has singlehandedly inspired hundreds of Neopians to be creative and submit to the Times, including me. What a memorable career to have. So, in this issue, which marks three-quarters of one thousand, we are finally going to attempt to get their side of the story, and learn more about this iconic Weewoo.

scechoi(S): Thank you so very much for coming to meet with me.

Neopian Times White Weewoo(NTWW): Oh, it's no problem. I'm always happy to help my fellow Neopians.

S: Honestly, you are too kind. I would like to begin by thanking you for your many years of service to this fine newspaper, and by asking you how this all began.

NTWW: It's my pleasure to get to be a part of the Neopian Times, to be honest! I really do feel so lucky to have an awesome, steady gig like this. It all really began in Year 6, as before then it was more of a part-time job, to be honest. They brought me on as the official mascot for issue 150 and on, and I've never looked back. They noticed the Times needed a cute, approachable mascot that encompassed the point of the paper, and for whatever reason they picked me. I'm very, very fortunate.

S: Absolutely amazing. So you've been a part of the Neopian Times weekly for nearly 600 issues now?

NTWW: That's right.

S: What an honor! And a deserved one, at that. I'm sure the Neopian Times wouldn't be what it was today without your help. What is your favorite part of being mascot?

NTWW: Hands down the best part about being the mascot is when people approach me on the street and tell me that I inspired them to write. I mean, to think that I, a measly petpet, have inspired so many people to write and be creative... It's humbling, to say the least. Just the thought that I vicariously caused articles, comics, and stories that turn smiles to laughs, go from worry to triumph, and helped so many people learn something new definitely helps me get out of bed in the morning.

S: Truly, it is something to be proud of. I can certainly say you have inspired me as well.

NTWW: I'm so very glad to hear that.

S: Of course! Now, what do you have to say to the people that consider your job as more of a courier, and less of the face of the paper?

NTWW: I mean, I wouldn't argue with them. That's what I was for the first 150 issues before they decided they wanted me full time. It's really all about perspective. If someone sees me as a courier, but they are still inspired towards creativity by the Neopian Times, then I feel like I've done my job. But if someone thinks of me as "the face of the paper", and never even considers submitting, I feel like I've failed. I don't really care what I'm considered, so long as people continue to enjoy the Times.

S: What a humble answer. Okay, final question! What do you hope for the next 250 issues as we approach the iconic 1000?

NTWW: I guess I hope for what I've always hoped for every single issue, and that is to see as many new creators come forth, and also continue to see my favorites return time and time again. I want as many people as possible to aspire towards their dreams of being published in our amazing paper, and anyone who gets inspired to write and draw to continue doing so. As long as people keep creating and innovating, the Neopian Times will continue to succeed and thrive. I can't wait to see what new ideas the brilliant people of Neopia come up with next.

S: I would say the exact same thing if I was you. What a strong answer. Unfortunately, that's all the time we have for our interview today. I would like to give a huge thank you to the White Weewoo for coming out and giving their time so we could gain insight into the unique life he leads. Any last words?

NTWW: I can't wait to see every new published copy of the Times, as no two are the same and each one holds excitement and surprise I would never get to witness otherwise. Keep it up!

S: You heard it hear, folks, keep up those new submissions. I'm scechoi, and this has been an interview with the Neopian Times White Weewoo. A final thank you for your time, and thank you to the readers of the Neopian Times.

NTWW: Until next week!

S: Until next week. Good luck with your future submissions, and to the future copies of the Neopian Times. Goodbye!

As you can see, the White Weewoo, despite their prominent status and unique position, is a truly humble friend that just wants to see the Neopian Times succeed, as we all do. We as Neopians have the awesome responsibility to continue innovating and creating new comics, articles, and stories to continue the Neopian Times' weekly entertainment and awesomeness. For every piece in the Times you've enjoyed, there was an awesome creator behind the scenes, and there's nothing stopping you from that being you next time. Hopefully, this interview with the White Weewoo will help to inspire you, as he has inspired me countless times, and it will be your creativity spotlighted next week. Keep up the innovation, Neopia, and long live the Neopian Times!

75 Reasons To Give Away Your Pets!
That said, I thought it would be cute and inventive to write an article about the best aspect of the site -- the pets! Specifically, the reasons why it's better to give them away than to keep them. Many people on the site are obsessed with hoarding as many pets as possible. Yet I think it's a better idea to adopt them out!
