Of Beaches Past and Future

by halondrus

--------

I want to go to beach

See the ever expanding sea

Smell the salty breeze

Feel the sand beneath me

The beach was a place

As a kid we would go

To get covered in sand and kelp

But the good times did roll

We were different back then

Not worried about life’s pressure

Just free spirits splashing about

And digging up shells as treasure

The beach is more than a place

It is memories pure of mind

A place of nostalgia and love

Where we were all kind

All before we had to grow up

Before we had to work

Before we had to pay bills

We could innocently go berserk

I want to go to beach

See the ever expanding sea

Smell the salty breeze

Feel the sand beneath me

Going back there as an adult

To tap into my inner child

Will heal something within me

Even if it is only mild

The air will be sweet with desire

Of all that could have been

Appreciate all that I have now

And what I had back then

It may not have been what I wanted

But not all hope is lost

For things work out how they should

Even if sometimes at great cost

When I return in twenty more years

Will I like who I became

Or will I have disappointed that child

Back down by the bonfire’s flame

I want to go to beach

See the ever expanding sea

Smell the salty breeze

Feel the sand beneath me
