Wishes Come True

by faeriemelly

--------

High in the sky above the world, there was an intense heat that was hotter than a raging forest fire. A comet called Minerva was passing over, guided by the help of Mira, the Space Faerie. Thousands of asteroids were being ejected from the bright ball of fire, making it look like a flurry of shooting stars from the land below. Mira was using her magic to force the dangerous asteroids on a safe course, away from Neopia. She had been doing this for hours, and the end was finally here.

As the comet finally passed by, Mira heard a strange noise off in the distance. It sounded like crying. As she listened closer, she could hear the voice of an anguished female. The voice was soft, but there was power in it. She was making a wish. The words that were whispered stuck a chord in Mira's heart.

"I wish I was a strong and beautiful faerie lenny, like my mother, with wings that could carry me high into the sky, so no one could ever harm me again."

Never before had Mira heard such sadness. It brought tears to her eyes. Flying down into Neopia's atmosphere, she scanned the area below. In the meadow directly below, was a small figure. As quick as her wings would carry her, Mira quickly descended to the surface of the land, to inspect further.

As she landed, the sight before her eyes angered the space faerie. Lying all alone was a lenny so badly mangled Mira could barely tell what type she was. Her body was covered in scars, and her feathers were all gone. The lenny's wings were broken in several places, and she looked to be unconscious. Mira leaned over to touch the lenny, and she didn't move.

"Poor thing. I don't know what happened to her, but whatever it was must have been horrific."

Mira knew what she had to do. Though she doesn't normally grant wishes, she was making an exception. Raising her wand, she touched it to the lenny's skin. Bright light surrounded the sleeping creature, and sparkles danced around her still form. Slowly, the wings that were so badly mutilated began to heal. The scars upon her lacerated skin disappeared. Brilliant blue feathers commenced growing, and blew softly in the cool breeze. Her body which was so small began to lengthen.

Finally, the light faded, and the spell had worked its magic. Before Mira, lay a lovely faerie lenny. A smile graced the space faerie's face, as she leaned over and kissed the sleeping beauty's cheek. Mira whispered softly in her ear.

"Your wish has been granted, my dear."

With that said, the space faerie flew off into the night sky.

Hours passed, and the night turned to day. Sansa slept deeply, unaware of what had taken place. Soon, the light of day faded, and the moon rose. Twinkling stars filled the dark, velvety sky, and off in the distance, a strange mewing sound could be heard. It was this sound that finally awoke Sansa.

Groggy from so much sleep, Sansa sat up, unsure of what was happening. She looked around at her surroundings and remembered what had taken place earlier. She had no idea that she had slept a full day, and was puzzled by the noise she kept hearing.

     "What is that?"

Panic started to creep in, and she quickly rose from the ground. It wasn't until then that she realized, her body had changed. Astonished by the fact that she felt no pain, Sansa forgot about the fear she was feeling. It had turned into amazement. She couldn't believe what she was seeing.

Her body was completely healed, and she had feathers! Unsure how this had happened, Sansa looked around to see if there were any lurkers. Seeing no one, she raised her elegant new wings, and began to flap them. She immediately started to rise off the ground.

Joy filled the lenny's heart as she instinctively knew what to do. She continued to move her wings faster and flew even higher into the air. She flew all around the open meadow, so high she felt as though she could touch the moon. Around and around she glided, without a care in the world. She never knew she could feel so free. She never knew she could feel so happy.

After what seemed like an eternity, Sansa slowed her pace, and gently landed on the grass below. Still reeling from what was happening, she couldn't stop smiling, but she began to wonder what had happened. Had her wish really came true? Her smile turned into a frown as she thought perhaps this was a dream. She quickly pinched herself to make sure she wasn't still sleeping, and flinched from the pain.

"This is really happening. Mother was right! Shooting stars can make your wishes come true!"

Sansa sat down on the grass and thought of all she had endured. Finally, something good was happening in her life. She thought of Danders, and hoped he didn't get into trouble for helping her. She couldn't bear the thought that something bad befell him. She hoped that someday they would meet, again, and she could repay him for his bravery and kindness.

     "MEW! MEW! MEW!"

Sansa turned her head toward the trees surrounding the area, realizing something was in distress. She peered into the darkness and tried to see what it was, with no luck. Suddenly, without thinking, she leapt up and flew over to the trees off to her right. The mewing became louder, and now she could hear vicious snarls. As she flew a bit closer, she could see a rabid lupe with his paws scratching against the trunk of a tree, as though trying to climb it, and a small kadoatie cowering on a branch above.

Feeling no fear, Sansa nosedived down toward the lupe quickly, not giving any thought to herself or the consequences of her actions. She made contact with the lupe's hindquarter, knocking him to the ground. Using her sharp beak, she bit deeply into the neck of the miscreant. Yelping in pain, the lupe jumped to his feet, and bolted off into the darkness.

Sansa stood up, and dusted off her feathers. It suddenly occurred to her that she had just attacked a foe, and won. She had felt no fear, and she actually won. This thought made her feel powerful. Never had she felt this way before. She turned back to the tree where the kadoatie sat, and walked over to it. Flying upward, she reached toward the branch and picked the small critter up, flew back into an open area of the meadow. She found a spot where the moonlight shined brightly on the ground, and landed there. Leaning over, she placed the kadoatie on the ground.

"You're safe now. Don't be afraid. I won't hurt you."

Sansa spoke softly, trying to reassure the scared creature. She lowered her body to the ground, and started petting the kad. He surprised her by crawling up onto her lap, and mewing quietly.

Sansa looked up at the stars and thanked the heavens for all she had been given. Things in her life had been so bad, but in this moment, everything was good. The only thing that would make it better is finding her family.

"Don't worry, mother. Now that I am free and healed, I promise to do everything in my power to find you. I will find justice for our family, and we will be reunited. I will train hard, and battle whomever I have to, and it WILL happen. Wishes do come true, and I have only just begun."

With that, Sansa resumed petting the kadoatie as she watched the night sky, and planned her next move.

     The End.
