Faerieland Employment Agency Guide

by aleu1986

--------

Every Neopet should have a job! It`s a fun way for you to make some extra Neopoints, plus it gives your Neopets a chance to do something useful and earn their keep. Those stays at the Neolodge and the rides at the Roo Island Merry Go Round aren`t free, you know!

Doing Basic Jobs is great for those players that don`t have hours to spend on restocking. It doesn`t require great patience or a lot of in-depth knowledge, it does however require you to be quick! Doing Basic Jobs takes a minimum of approximately 25 to 30 min, so if you have limited time to spend on Neopets on a daily basis, I suggest heading over to the Employment Agency first thing, before starting on your other dailies. (If you`re a Premium member, you can add a custom link to the FEA to your dailies bar).

Where? The Faerieland Employment Agency is, as the name suggests, in Faerieland. Specifically, it`s located within Faerie City. (Extremely specifically, to the left of the map of the city, right above Faerie Paint Brushes and next to Faerie Quests. It`s easy to spot!)

Before you get started... Have the Shop Wizard open in another tab, so you can quickly jump back and forth between looking up shops and applying and completing jobs.

You`ll need some NP on hand, so make sure to make a withdrawal from the National Neopian first. I`d suggest a minimum of 7k (seven thousand) NP, but more is fine, just to be on the safe side.

Make sure there are maximum 40 items in your inventory. You don`t want to have to go to your shop page to use the quick stock while on a job, as you`re on a deadline. You`ll be required to get a maximum of 6 items, leaving an open 4 spots for random events that give you items.

Remember to be quick! If you have some experience with feeding Kadoaties using the Shop Wizard, or perhaps you`ve done some sniping, completing jobs fast may come easier to you. If not, don`t worry! Just be as quick as you can, have your finger ready on the scroll to make a purchase.

So how does the Faerieland Employment Agency work?

You can do five jobs a day.

The items you`ll be required to get are in different categories: Food, toys, books, collectable cards, candy, baked, medicine, stamps, weapons, school supplies and gift/Tiki Tack items.

The number of the item you need to get varies from 2 to 6.

The time to acquire said item varies from anywhere between 1 minute up to an hour. Obviously you should do your best to hurry – the quicker you complete a job, the bigger your reward will be!

The base rewards usually vary from a few hundred NP to around nine thousand NP. Base reward means the minimum you get for completing the job, you usually earn more than that as there is a time bonus, a reward for being fast!

You can maximise your profit by purchasing the items you need before clicking "Apply for this job." I have done this a couple of times when I`ve had a few of the item needed lying around in my Safety Deposit Box. It`s not recommended however, as the job you wanted is often taken by someone else by the time you`ve finished getting the items, so you`ll most likely just end up with an even more cluttered SDB. The best way to complete jobs is to look up the item in the Shop Wizard first, do a quick calculation in your head to determine if the reward will be larger than the cost, and get shopping!

Is doing jobs worth it? How much can I make from Basic Jobs?

You can usually make around 15 to 20k (fifteen to twenty thousand) NP daily from the Basic Jobs. Even at just 15k a day, that still adds up to over 100k in a week, and 415k in a month! If you`re saving up for an expensive gallery item, for example, the extra earnings from the Employment Agency can really help you along.

These are the different pages at the Employment Agency.

Status – this page shows your Neopets, how many jobs each of them have completed, and lists the job one of them is currently on. A job will be displayed here for a few minutes even after being completed.

Basic Jobs – this is where you want to be. I start by clicking "end" and then browse for a couple of pages. If there aren`t any good jobs available at the moment, just wait a few minutes for a new refresh, this happens every ten minutes. Be careful not to jump on any job with a high base reward, not all of them are worth it! Some jobs will get you a nice profit, with others you may break even or even lose a little NP. It takes some time to get used to how the Employment Agency works, which jobs are worth it or not. The best jobs get taken very quickly. The Employment Agency is all about speed. You have to be quick to get the best jobs, and you also need to complete each job fast for best profit.

Rankings – there are different rankings based on how many jobs your Neopet has completed, so you may want to assign jobs to just one of your pets. There are nineteen rankings, starting at Beginner (1 job completed) and the highest rank is Arch Master (15,000 jobs completed). The job rank is visible on the pet lookup, but there are no benefits to the rankings. You don`t get higher base rewards or increased daily job count.

Super Jobs – these require Job Coupons. The Brightvale Job Coupons can be won from the Wheel of Knowledge, otherwise you can buy them in users' shops or at the Trading Post. I would not recommend spending your NP on the coupons, though. I have bought some in the past and didn`t end up with that much profit. In the long run, you`re better off doing the five basic jobs daily for a slow and steady increase to your bank balance.

Getting the job done

When doing jobs, speed and efficiency is key. The quicker you`re able to get the items and turn them in, the more NP you`ll earn. There`s always a limited time to complete a job, so make sure you`re not too late!

Click Apply for this job. If the job has not already been taken by someone else, you`ll see the following page:

You got the job!

Job Description

Job #: 2163768

YourNeopetsName`s Task: Find 4 of: Instant Roses

Total Time Allowed: 50 minutes

Base Reward: 6,000 NP

You have 50 minutes, 0 seconds left to complete the job.

So far you have acquired 0 of the requested item (Instant Roses). Get to it!

Once you have acquired all the items, return to this page to turn them in.

Click on the 'Status' link to see a description of all your Neopets' current job assignments.

(Note: You can also quit this job, but it will cost you 200 NP to quit!)

You should already have copied and pasted the item name into the Shop Wizard (alternatively you may already have the shops you need open so you`re ready to get in and out fast). Once you have the correct number of the item you need, go back to the job page and click where it says "return to this page." The following message will appear upon a job successfully completed:

Good job! You got all the items we wanted.

The job took you 0 minutes, 9 seconds.

You have been paid 9,240 Neopoints.

Completed Job Data...

Job #: 2163768

YourNeopetName`s Task: Find 4 of: Instant Roses

Total Time Allowed: 50 minutes

Base Reward: 6,000 NP

In the example below, I had the same timeframe and same base reward, but took longer, meaning the final payout was lowered.

The job took you 0 minutes, 32 seconds.

You have been paid 7,436 Neopoints.

In this other example, I only had 1 minute (60 seconds) to get five books. I took nearly half the time and so ended up with just the base reward. Things like Neo lagging, a slow computer/internet connection and shops loaded with animations can slow you down considerably. If you know your connection is on the slow side, taking on jobs with a long deadline is the best choice as you`ll most likely get a time bonus from them.

The job took you 0 minutes, 23 seconds.

You have been paid 9,300 Neopoints.

Total Time Allowed: 1 minutes

Base Reward: 9,300 NP

Let`s take a look at other messages you`ll get and what they all mean.

This job has already been taken. - This means exactly what it says. Someone else beat you to it, you have to find a different job to complete. When you get this message, click on the "Basic Jobs" link again instead of using your browsers "back" button, this way you`ll only view still available jobs.

You have already taken enough jobs today! Come back tomorrow.

You will get this message when you either try to do four jobs within the same restock, or when you try to do a sixth job, as five is the daily limit. You can do three jobs within the same restock/refresh of jobs, but you may want to take your time and check for more profitable jobs on the next listing.

If a shop has multiples stocked of the item you need, and you click too fast when buying them you may get an error message saying "Error: Sorry, but it looks like you're trying to reload the page too quickly. Please give it a second or two before hitting submit again in order to let it finish processing." This message is not only very annoying, it also slows you down, as it takes a couple of seconds from you clicking "back" to the shop page loading properly again, allowing you to complete your purchases. If you have several tabs/shops open, and you notice one tab doesn`t say "Neopets – Browsing a Shop" but rather a seemingly random collection of letters and numbers, the aforementioned error message has popped up, and you need to get back to that shop and click "back," or otherwise buy an extra of the item you need if one of the other shops has several stocked.

Avatars and Trophies

There are no avatars or trophies from this feature, sadly. Hopefully TNT will make a cool avatar or a shiny trophy for those hardworking Neopets soon! It would be a nice reward for their work and a good incentive for more users to let their pets work at the Employment Agency. Many games and site features have trophies and/or avatars, such as Food Club, Stock Market, Kadoatery and the Faerie Crossword, so I personally think the Faerie Employment Agency should have that too.

Thanks for reading my guide, I hope you have enjoyed it. Check out my other articles, and feel free to send me a NM if you have any comments or questions,

Good luck in the job market!

Mother's Balloon: Part Twelve
Reyela ran into the wind, her bare feet sinking into the moist ground with every lunging step she took. She had left the Worthingtons' house in such a hurry that she had forgotten to put on her shoes. She supposed they would always have them now. They could keep them at their front door, and look at them from time to time in remembrance of the girl whom's heart they won, and then tore apart with their lies and hidden truths exposed.
