Quote of the Week
Neither of them said much as they finished cleaning–up, Elon only gestured to the water to tell Barit to go first. It was only when Elon showed up in the locker room that any attempts at conversation started again. Barit watched him in the corner of his eye at first.
A Mutated Friend for Your Beastly Neopet
---Starring Chessangie the Royalgirl Draik, Chessella the Pastel Draik, Maldice the Stealthy Draik, and Christine, their owner!--- Christine: Welcome! Does your creepy Neopet need a friend? Well, there are plenty of creepy Petpets in Neopia to keep your pet company! Angie: Do they bite? I would think so! ---frowns--- Maldice: Relax. We will be observing these wild specimens at a safe distance. Angie: Good... Ella: I hear that Mutant Petpets can do lots of crazy things, such as vicious biting or even casting certain spells! Look from afar. Christine: That’s why they would be perfect for creepy Neopets in search of a friend. In honour of the Mutant edition of the Neopian Times, we will be observing several Mutant Petpets today. Without further ado, here are the Petpets: ---Mutant Bearog--- Angie: Well, this one isn’t so bad. Very cute! I suppose it’s a “Mutant” because it is a cross between a bear and a dog? Maldice: That’s where you’re wrong. Bearogs are supposed to have three heads. The Mutant Bearog only has one. An unpainted Bearog looks like this: Angie: Oh, dear... ---The Mutant Bearog bares its teeth and barks at Angie.--- Angie: Oh, no! Don’t tell me he’s mean! Ella: Hey, wild creatures from the Haunted Woods aren’t exactly known for being cuddly bundles of love... Maldice: If you love puppies, Warfs are friendly! Angie: True... But I already have a Petpet. Christine: Anyway, it’s a shame that this Mutant Bearog is mean and wants to bite Angie’s head off, or else I’d gladly keep him as a pet, since I love dogs. Onto the next scary Petpet... |
Petpets I Would Feed to Florg the Mutant Chia
Let’s be for real, not all Petpets are created equal. Some Petpets are adorable little companions that deserve hugs, forehead kisses, and comfy beds for peaceful sleeps. Others look creepy, or weird, or like they’re staring directly into your soul.
Which brings us to Florg. If you didn’t know, Florg is a huge Mutant Chia that was experimented on by Dr. Sloth. He turned enormous and now has an insatiable appetite for delicious Petpets. Some would call Florg a monster.
Now before anybody panics, this article is entirely hypothetical. No actual Petpets are being harmed here, and sorry-not-sorry in advance if one of your favourite Petpets is listed here. But, if Florg came to me asking for some new snacks and I had to make a few difficult decisions, then this would be it. Which Petpets will be Florg’s breakfast, lunch, and dinner?
Frowny
This is kind of self-explanatory, but if you’re not sure, just look at the name! Frownys genuinely look like they have never experienced happiness a single day in their entire existence. They constantly appear disappointed, exhausted, and mildly offended by life. I totally get it, same, Frowny, same. Frownys are literally known as the saddest Petpet ever.
Why I’d feed a Frowny to Florg: As sad as it is, a Frowny probably wouldn’t even put up a fight or attempt to run away. It would just accept its defeat and fate. Florg probably wouldn’t even know how to react to a Petpet that is not putting up any resistance; would the hunt even be fun? Florg might even feel a little bad himself for eating the Frowny. I wonder what sadness tastes like?

 | A Survival Guide for Prospective Baby Mutant Owners
Congratulations! You've decided to bring a Baby Mutant into your Neohome.
Combining the distinctive features of the Mutant colour with the youthful appearance of Baby Neopets, these new pets are perhaps the most unexpected combination Neopia has seen yet.
You may be wondering what could possibly go wrong. After all, they're babies. They're small. They're adorable. They probably enjoy toys, naps, and being carried around. And that's exactly what makes them so dangerous. Because somewhere between "Look at those big eyes and tiny feet!" and "Why is there a tentacle in my soup?" you will discover the truth.
Baby Mutants are still Mutants.
Mutant Neopets have been part of Neopia for generations since Year 3, historically created using transmogrification potions long-associated with Dr. Sloth (perhaps not the most reassuring fact to learn immediately before bringing a mutant into your neohome). Mutants have never quite received the same admiration as some of our more traditionally cuddly colours. Their unusual appearances have often led Neopians to make assumptions about their personalities, intelligence, and behaviour.
Of course, any experienced Mutant owner will tell you that those assumptions are rarely accurate. A Mutant can be shy or outgoing, playful or serious, bookish or mischievous, just like any other Neopet.
Which raises an important question:
What is it actually like to own one?
As someone considering bringing a Baby Mutant home, there are a few things you should probably know first. |

"The Mutant Meetup" by stella_123_5 In the Haunted Woods, you had two choices for lighting — dim or flickering. And if you were especially unlucky, there was no choice at all, and you ended up with both.
(Unless you moved to Neovia — but who could afford that these days?)
The break room behind Marvin's thrift store was one of these unlucky places. The Mutant Chomby had done his best to brighten it up and make it seem a little more inviting, of course — there were candles everywhere, and the little folding table in the corner had a generous selection of snacks and sodas, with a note to "help yourself!".
But it was a still a moderately dark room, filled with creepy candles, in a quiet part of the Haunted Woods.
In short, it wasn't really the ideal atmosphere for a support group.
(They all kept showing up anyway.)
Niki the Mutant Usul filled up a paper plate with some chocolate chip cookies (her favourite!), and grabbed a Neocola (not so much, but it seemed a waste to pick a water). After a moment's hesitation, she picked up a gummy rat too. It made her feel like such a stereotype to like spooky food as much as she did; but sue her, she did!
She nibbled on a cookie as she made her way to the circle of chairs in the middle of the room. It was still early — other than Marvin, Jakey the Yurble was the only other one there. He blinked his eye and waved his tentacles in greeting. Niki blinked all three of hers back in response, with a grin. |
"A Mutant’s Family Business" by qeenoneo For generations, my family has succeeded in the niche business of scare tactics and protective services, usually for a fee, of course. Every Neopian knew our family name for all the wrong reasons, and this is just the way my parents liked it. Our dwellings are far away from Neopia Central or any town where Neopians gather, driven out many years ago for ‘terrorising the locals’. We are a family of Mutants and a proud one at that, no matter what others say or how they sharpen their narrowed eyes when we are around. We don’t often go into the Bazaar because it is made clear very quickly that we are not welcome, even if we are just needing to pick up some hot dogs from Huberts for dinner. I noticed how others treated us when I was a young Mutant Lupe pup, just wanting to make friends, romp around, play tag, and hide and seek with the others. I didn’t understand then why others were so afraid of me, running in the other direction when they saw me walking towards them. I didn’t mean any harm to them; I wish I just had the chance to tell them that. But they never gave me a chance to say the words. My parents made sure to teach me about the cruelty of the world from a very young age, and why it was important to continue our ancestral work. They would tell me the only way to be seen and be able to stand proud is to dominate; lurking in the shadows, collecting debts and showing them how scary... |
"I Like Being Mutant" by therainbowsheep Jhiy the Mutant Gelert tugged on the straps of his Albert backpack and grunted as his textbooks shifted around. He was very much looking forward to a new semester at Brightvale University, but his course load was beginning to seem heavy, both figuratively and literally. Carrying around four books at a time was beginning to feel a little much, but he was enrolled in several advanced seminars that assigned more readings than the average course. The university grounds were still relatively quiet. Classes didn’t officially begin for another week, but Jhiy relished in arriving early, soaking up the last of summer and witnessing the transformation from ghost town to vibrant college town. Today, the plan was to head to the library and get a head start on some reading. Also, one of the main benefits of arriving at Brightvale University early was settling into the dorms. The Gelert had already carefully unpacked and organised his half of the modest room, posters and framed photos neatly tacked onto the wall. He couldn’t wait till his roommate and best friend, Duplinam the Mutant JubJub arrived so they could catch up and compare schedules. That was one thing that was a little unfortunate - in this new phase of academics and life in general, his nearest and dearest were still Neopets just like him. Different. Mutants. While he was grateful his classmates at Brightvale University... |
