Pet Day - The day on which a species of Neopet was created, which is celebrated every year with lots of fun features!

Currently, there are 54 different species of Neopets in Neopia and each one has its very own pet day! For those mathematicians out there, that means there should be approximately one pet day a week. As you can see, these special days are quite an important feature in Neopia, yet they seem to be overlooked by most Neopians. That is why this article is here: To prove to you, dearest reader, that pet days are important and to help you enjoy each one as much as possible.

If you don’t have a lot of time, this guide has been split up into sections so you may skip ahead.

Preparing for a Pet Day

Once every day or so, when you are browsing Neopets, remember to check the Neopian calendar. (The easiest way to get there is to type “calendar” into the Neopet’s search bar.) If you see that there is a pet day coming up in the next few days, it would be a good idea to start planning something special if it is the pet day of one of your own pets. If not, there is still a lot of things you can do to get ready! Some of the contests, such as the poetry contest and art gallery, will be accepting entries dedicated to that particular pet. In fact, when you enter into the art gallery, you will be given the option to state if your entry was designed for a pet day. So don’t forget to enter some nice contest entries based on the pet whose pet day is coming up three or four days before that special day!

Also, you might want to take a peek at your friends’ accounts and send them a quick neomail if one of their pets has a pet day coming up so they don’t miss out on all the special features. =)

The Big Day

When a pet day finally arrives, you should always check Neopia’s new features page right away, which is conveniently placed in a link in the top right corner of your neopets browsing page. You really should be doing this every day anyway, because if you don’t, you could easily miss out on new games, contests, and even plots! (And you definitely don’t want that!) The first things you’ll notice when you read the new features on a pet day are the new colour(s) available to paint the species of pet being celebrated. If you continue reading, you’ll see that there will also be a ton of new items dedicated to the pet, such as furniture, books, bakery items, and even new snazzy clothes exclusively for that pet to wear! As already mentioned, most of the contests should be dedicated to the pet day, including the caption contest! Usually at the end of the new features page, the new morphing potions available for the pet will be presented. If you were going to paint your pet one of those colours, then you’re pretty lucky, because the morphing potions are usually cheaper than the paint brushes.

Teeheehee, now wasn’t that fun? But there is still a whole lot more that pet days have to offer!

Limited Edition Pets

One of the most popular features of pet days is being able to create limited edition pets (Chomby, Cybunny, Draik, Hissi, Jetsam, Kiko, Koi, Lutari, Poogle, Tonu). There is, of course, no guarantee that limited edition pets will be released on their pet day (Draiks, for example, will never be creatable again), but there is always a small possibility that they will be made available for a short period of time. The help boards will be quite hectic on limited edition pet days, with tons of users making “waiting boards” as they wait for pets to be released. Often times, even after hours of refreshing the create-a-pet page, no pets are released. However, if you really want a cute limited edition pet, trying never hurt anyone... except for the few people whose brains implode after staring at the same page for so many hours, but statistics show that this only happens to about 1.2489% of Neopians, so you’re fairly safe.

When Your Pet Celebrates Its Pet Day

For you and me, pet days are just another day, but when your pet celebrates its very own pet day... now that is a totally different matter! You must understand that pet days are almost as special as birthdays for neopets. The fun all begins with Cap’n Threelegs’ very own present: a free day of training at Cap'n Threelegs' Swashbuckling Academy! It’s quite amazing that that stingy ol’ Eyrie would agree to such a gift, but it has become a traditional part of the pet day celebrations. This present is especially useful for neopets who love to battle. However, even those of you who don’t battle that much, it would be a good idea to check by the Academy anyway. Think of all the dubloons you could save!

Once you’ve signed your pets up for a course at the Academy, it should be high time to give them their pet day presents (or rush to the shops if you don’t have any yet)! There are tons of really adorable neo-items based on different pets. My Ruki, for example, will be receiving a really cute red Ruki scooter for Ruki Day! Shhh! Don’t tell her.

Warning!

And this brings me right on to the final section of this article: the warning! If you are tempted by the new adorable pet themed items that are released on pet days, do not buy them! If you do, you will be paying a lot more than you could be. When items are newly released, they will not have been restocked very often, meaning that they are rare. This means that they cost a lot more than they are actually worth, and they will stay that price until the item has been around for a while. I suggest waiting for at least a week before buying any item released on a pet day (or any other day for that matter). If you wanted one of those items as a present for your pet, you can always give it to them next year.
