Mandy
The storm raged over her, the rain splashed about her, the wind
whipped her face. The young girl, called Mandy, glanced desperately around
for shelter. She spotted a gray gloomy building, none other than the adoption
center. But shelter it was, and despite the fact she hated the place,
she proceeded towards it.
Mrs. Worley glanced up as she burst inside. "What do you want?" she boomed.
"Just some shelter from the rain. And if you have a phone, I'd like
to call a taxi." Mrs. Worley frowned.
"All right, wait here," she snapped.
Mandy nodded as Mrs. Worley disappeared into a back room. She began to
walk down the long aisle of cages, glancing in at the miserable occupants.
Anger boiled up inside of her. How could anyone do this to these pets!
She glanced into a cage, where two Lupes sat. One was green, the other
yellow, with a Lupe Moon Charm around her neck. The charm was sparkling
and glowing. Oddly, Mandy felt attached to this pet.
"Having a look around?" Mandy jumped, and turned to face Mrs. Worley.
"I don't know if you'd want either of these two, though. The green one's
nothing but trouble. Several owners have taken him only to bring him back
in disgust. And the other one is his sister, they say, so she'd probably
like him."
"How dare you insult these pets! No, I'm taking the yellow one, and
I know a friend who'd gladly take the green one." She snatched the phone
from Mrs. Worley, and dialed a number.
"Hello? Yes, Alexander, it's Mandy, would you come to the pound for a
second? I found a nice pet you could adopt..." She smiled as she hung
up, and turned to the green Lupe. "My friend Alexander will adopt you,
he's nice and won't bring you back here, trust me!"
Turning to the yellow Lupe, she said, "And I'll take you home, okay?
You'll be able to visit each other, don't worry!"
Mrs. Worley tapped her on the shoulder. "You've got to fill out the papers,
now, if you want to take her home." Mrs. Worley pointed to the front desk.
"And hurry up! Don't take all day."
Happily Mandy filled out the form. She had saved two pets from that
horrid place! But also, there was something about that yellow Lupe, something
she couldn't quite place her finger on. Maybe, just maybe, it was that
charm.

Alexander waved good-bye, LunoSun trotting beside him. The rain had
subsided and the sun was shining brightly. LunoSun waved at me, I waved
back at him. Finally, we were both free of Mrs. Worley and the pound!
I looked up at Mandy, the wonderful person who had done this all. She
looked down and smiled at me, and then I knew my life wasn't completely
ruined. What luck I had! But then I quietly realised I had no luck. Just
my Lupe Moon Charm, and the love of my parents.

"Here we are, home sweet home."
The house ahead of me was nothing like I've ever seen before. Maybe
because I've never actually lived inside a house before, but whether or
not that was the case, the house was HUGE! I couldn't imagine the rooms
you could fit inside there! It had a grand yard too, full of gardens and
trees, ponds and little creeks, and even a big swing in the middle. I
thought I was dreaming.
Mandy led me through the door. I stood there, absolutely dazed by its
magnificence. Mandy smiled again, seeing how happy I was.
"Don't worry, Lupeia. Here, things are different, much different, than
the horrible times you've experienced."
I nodded my head, still half-dazed. Mandy laughed softly. "Here, Lupeia,
I ordered a present for you."
A present? For me? I took the box from her, and began to unwrap
it. I could feel it shake slightly under my paws.
Suddenly, the top opened and a small bird flew out. I knew her to be
one of the rare PetPet species, a Beekadoodle. Happily I hugged my new
friends, and shouted thanks for Mandy.
"Thanks so much Mandy! You don't know how much this means to me." Turning
to my Beekadoodle, I smiled. "I'll call you Sylandria." The name suited
her perfectly. But inside me I knew I hadn't named her. It was the charm
that had given me the name.
There were two other gifts, a Lupe plushie and a Fire Faerie to bless
myself with. Sylandria zoomed happily around me, chirping and singing.
Mandy was standing beside me, smiling. I smiled too.
With the paw that wasn't holding the Lupe Plushie I held my Lupe Moon
Charm, and softly said, "Thank you, my dear charm. You have kept me alive
through all of this, and led me to the happy ending Mom and Dad wanted
me to have." I paused, then continued, "Thank you Mom and Dad. I know
you're always watching me, protecting me, so thank you."
In more of a whisper, I finished, "And don't forget, I'll always love
you, and so does LunoSun."
And my charm sparkled and glowed.
