The Darkest Secret of Neopia: Part Four

When Shamathia and Andy woke up the next morning it was already pretty late and the sun was shining through the large windows. After they had had a warm shower they had breakfast together. Shamathia told Andy about what happened in the secret valley. And how she had managed to destroy the book.

Andy looked at her with happy eyes and said, "What you did was brave and clever. It was a brilliant idea to destroy the book by his own weapons. Now a long period of peace will come over Neopia... the Darkness Queen has fallen deep into her own darkness."

"But there is still one question open: In the book there was nothing written about how to leave Neopia. Why didn't Cos'Anuján write it down? It was his strongest spell!" Shamathia asked.

Andy answered after a little pause, "Well, maybe... maybe he just forgot to write it down? Or he had no time?"

Shamathia could sense that he was not telling the truth. "Why don't you tell me the truth now. I mean the whole truth. The book is gone so what should happen?"

Andy thought for a while about the question before he replied, "All right, I think you are intelligent enough to hear the whole truth now. First of all you should know what Neopia really is. It is only a computer game which was created by some fun-loving humans. It is a very popular game actually. Anyway, Neopia consists only of a extreme long source code. That is also the reason, why nothing but memories can leave Neopia. A computer program can never leave the computer except by getting printed. Anyway, one day the humans who created Neopia wanted to remove all evil from Neopia - that means out of the source code. They started a special program. In Neopia they program was the person of Cos'Anuján. At first everything was running well but than some but bad humans, so called "hackers", attacked the game and changed the program to destroy Neopia. The creators had no access on the program anymore and so they had to stop it by another way. The programmed all other creatures of Neopia so that they went to the house of Cos'Anuján and got him real good. The story about that he left Neopia and went to another realm was just told to hide the terrible truth. But it was the only way to stop Cos'Anuján from destroying Neopia. Of course he did not live 700 years ago but only some years before you were born."

That was a lot for Shamathia to handle. Only a game... But still she had some questions. "All right, I think I understand that. But there are still two points of the story that I don't understand. 1. The funny behaviour of Mr. Spencer and 2. The story about the book."

Andy paused again before he answered, "After Cos'Anuján, or better his program had been changed by the hackers it tried to copy it's source code into those of others. All creatures who were infected by the bad code had to be deleted also. But few managed to suppress the evil code like Mr. Spencer and the Supervisor of the library. When you asked Mr. Spencer about Cos'Anuján the evil source code got active again and he could not suppress it anymore. He did not search for the book himself because he is too old and so he told you about everything. And now to your second question: Cos'Anuján wrote all his spells into one book which he wanted to give to his pupil so that they should not get lost. But after his program was changed he wrote down the bad source code. If you had gone on to read the book the code would have joined your program and you would have started to destroy Neopia. No matter whether you wanted that or not."

Now Shamathia finally understood the whole story. The spells she had learned from the book were written by the "good" Cos'Anuján but the rest of the book was containing the bad source code. If only she had read further in the book...

After the breakfast Andy had to leave quite fast because he had been in Neopia much too long. Shamathia decided to write the whole story down. I will name it The Darkest Secret of Neopia, she thought. It was a dark secret... never before had NeoPets intentionally harmed other NeoPets and it should never happen again. That night Shamathia had a nightmare again. The Darkness Queen shouted at her how she could have dared to cross her plans. But this time Shamathia was prepared. She concentrated herself a bit and gain control of the dream and forced the Darkness Queen out. Then she had a fantastic idea. Of course she could leave Neopia - in her dreams. She concentrated herself a bit stronger and was suddenly standing in a room she had never seen before but it seemed to be her owner's room in his real world. Just that moment he came in through the door. For a moment he looked at her completely surprised and then he smiled at her and said, "Welcome to my world. It is real nice that you finally visit me...
