Neopedia : Krawken Attack

Krawk Island disappears The good sailors of Krawk Island woke up one day to find their island in the clutches of giant tentacles rising up from the sea. Thinking little of it, they went about their business. After all, Krawk Island was known for strange occurences; once it had even disappeared for a whole day!

Later that week, pirates in their ships woke from dreams of cracking noises and roaring to find Krawk Island had vanished. The tentacles were also missing, though no one much missed those. All that was left was a little scrap of an island with a single shanty on it.

Days passed with no sign of all those lovely dubloons dry land. The sailors were upset; where had Krawk Island gone? Was it planning on returning, or had they offended it somehow? And when was Food Club coming back?

Gavril McGill The shanty belonged to one Gavril McGill, a modest Krawk with big plans. As the sole remaining inhabitant of Krawk Island, he took charge and ordered everyone to find out what had become of the island. Intrepid pirates and sailors scoured Neopia's seas for their missing home. Much treasure was found and many captains fell overboard, quite inexplicably.

The truth was worse than they imagined: Krawk Island had been the victim of a Krawken attack.

Apparently, Krawk Island was really many little floating islets squished together and tied to the sea floor with ropes and anchors. In the ocean underneath Krawk Island, a Krawken was gnawing on the ropes. Something like squids, but bigger, Krawkens were long held to be just myths. After all, no pirate had trusted anything a Maraquan had told them in years. But this Krawken was no myth.

The Krawken Repairing Krawk Island was simply a matter of towing the islets home like wayward Hoovles. Gavril took it upon himself to plan a new, better Krawk Island as the pieces began returning, and under his direction, Krawk Island was reassembled from those hundreds of islets. It's said that the tunnels near Smugglers Cove are all different now, but so few pirates had maps for them anyway that it hardly matters. Krawk Island now also includes a splendid downtown known as Warf Wharf and a beautiful governor's mansion for the new governor of Krawk Island, Gavril McGill. Pirates aren't much for democracy, it's true, but it was generally agreed that Mr. McGill was a bit hasty in appointing himself to the position.

Since the Krawken has taken up permanent residence, however, any able-bodied folk who visit Krawk Island are heartily beseeched to help out in chasing off the pesky beast each day, lest the island's moorings snap for a repeat of the disaster.
