The Fountain Faerie

FAERIELAND - As I was walking through Faerieland the other day, just as I was
about to go to the Wheel of Excitement, for my pets had been begging to go all
day, I noticed a ray of color, a rainbow, and being in love with all things colorful,
I had to see what it was. After playing the Wheel of Excitement, for my pets wouldn’t
let me forget that I’d promised them we would, we trotted up the paved path, following
the beautiful rays of color.
When we arrived, I immediately knew where we were. It was the famous Rainbow
Fountain! Just as soon as I had seen the color, it was gone. Now it was pure
water flowing, where the rainbows had just been. As my pets glared in awe of
what they had just seen, I knew that this would be the perfect chance at an
interview, for I had always been an admirer of the Neopian Times, and desperately
needed a story. I quickly pulled out my Air Faerie Pen and my Rainbow Notepad
and walked up to the faerie that inhabited the flowing waters.
Fountain Faerie: “My beautiful fountain is not working! Maybe if you come back
later, you’ll be slightly more lucky!”
Me: “Uh, no miss, I’d like to talk to you! You see, I’m writing an article
for the Neopian Times, and I need someone to interview, and I thought maybe
I could interview you?”
FF: “Me?” she asked in a puzzled voice. "Well, I'm not sure why!"
Me: "If you don't mind, I'd like to ask you a few questions about yourself,
and your lovely rainbow fountain!”
FF: “Oh, uh, not at all! Take a seat!”
As soon as she said that, a fluffy chair of clouds appeared and I sat down,
my pen in hand. She seemed a bit nervous, like she wasn't used to such a thing.
Me: “So, let's get started! About how long has the Rainbow Fountain been around?”
FF: “Oh, it's been here for ages! It was here long before the discovery of
Meridell, and long before Coltzan was king, and before Dr. Sloth was even born!
It’s always been here, but many Neopians thought it was a myth until not long
ago..."
Me: “Interesting… But why does your fountain work for some, and not others?
Is there a certain time of day you must visit to use the fountain? And if so,
when is that time?”
FF: “Oh no, silly! You must receive one of my quests to bathe in my beautiful
fountain! The quests are completely random, just like all other faerie quests,
but they are extremely rare, for I hardly ever need items I don’t already have
here at the fountain!”
Me: “Ah, I understand now. So, I'm sure all of the readers are dying to know,
what kind of faerie are you?”
FF: “Well, I guess you could say that I’m in a league of my own. I’m half water
faerie, as you can plainly see, but I’m actually related to the Tooth Faerie
in some way, believe it or not! We’re third cousins, or something distant like
that, but I’m not quite sure.”
As I jotted down all of the questions I'd asked and answers I’d been given
in my notebook, one burning question still remained in my mind, and I was determined
to get an answer.
Me: “I''ve always wondered, do you mind not having dolls named after you? And
do you mind not having your own snow globe with a small figurine of you inside?
Please explain."
FF: “Well, I’ve never really thought of it before. I guess I am the only faerie
in all of Neopia that doesn’t have a faerie doll or a snow globe, but I do have
my own book, which I would suggest you reading, for it took a long time to write,
and many rainbow items, which I consider my own, as well as a trading card of
my fountain! I guess you could say that I'm glad I'm not 'famous' because I
don't think I'd like all of the attention very much."
Me: “I see. That's an interesting way to look at it. I still think you should
at least be on the page of faeries!” I confessed. The Fountain Faerie’s face
lit up. “ So, what is your most memorable experience that you’ve had at the
Rainbow Fountain?”
FF: “Hmm… let me see here...” She paused for a moment, clearly thinking hard,
but then looked up. “I’d have to say it was when in the month of Relaxing, an
owner and her Kougra were walking by my fountain and I asked them for a quest
item. It was clear to me that they were poor, for they weren’t carrying many
neopoints at all, and the Kougra was only a basic blue. I pulled out my list
of items that I needed and I found the one that was least expensive, a pair
of Kau Knight Boots, and asked if they could bring it to the fountain for me.
When they returned with the boots, I told them of their reward. The little blue
Kougra, after coming out of my fountain, was wearing a crown and beautiful cloak.
It felt wonderful knowing that I changed that little Neopet’s life forever.”
Me: “That’s wonderful. So, would you say the best part is seeing the look on
the Neopets’ faces when they receive their reward?”
FF: “Oh absolutely. It’s an amazing feeling. That's the main reason I've opened
up my fountain for others to use. Is that all?”
Me: “Yes, I believe I'm finished! Thank you so much for sitting down with me
to do this interview!”
FF: "Oh believe me, it's no problem! Drop by any time!"
As I grabbed my things and gathered my Neopets to head back home to Neopia
Central, I looked back at the Rainbow Fountain, and saw all of the colors restored,
flowing through the hands of the Fountain Faerie herself.
