Best and Worst Dressed: Usukicon Edition by surging
--------
Every year at Usukicon fans dress up and cosplay as their favourite Usuki. It's a chance for fans from all over to come together. But, we must say, every year some are way better than others. Some Neopians put a lot of time, energy, love, and energy into dressing up like their favourite Usukis. Others simply try. And, still, others don't seem to try at all. No offence. Okay, maybe some offence. This is our best and worst dressed list from this year's annual Usukicon. Find out if you or your favourite made the list (yay) or if they made the list (boo). Top 5 Worst Dressed The bad, the worse, and the ugly. Let's get into it. And if you or your favourite is on this list, don't worry, there is always next year. Well, maybe worry a little bit since this is how we will think of you for the next 364 days. At number 5 we have Fun in the Sun Usuki Reject Wearable. Why? Why would you want to look disheveled? We understand that dressing down is all the rage these days, but there is a difference between dressing down and dressing like you crawled out of the sewer or you lost the fight with the Vocivus the Ceaseless Gormandizer. Usukis are known to be fashionable, and this is NOT it. Dress to impress. You never know who you will run into where, or when. Number 4 we have Teenager Usuki Reject Wearable. Again. Stop this trend. Please. We beg. Have some self respect. Or respect for fashion. Or your fellow Neopian. Something. Just anything to not be showing up to real life events like this. If you want to look like this in the privacy of your NeoHome, fine. No one will judge you there. Well, maybe your roommate. And at number 3 we have Usuki Frenzy Usuki Wearable. The Lucy dress is cute, sure. The game is fun, absolutely. But, honestly, you just looked like you were a normal Usul at the convention showing off your haul. It takes a moment to put together that it is actually a look and a cosplay at all. That's not what you want when you are cosplaying, and we should not have to tell you that! You want heads to turn, jaws to drop, and others to take pictures with you. Coming in at number 2 is the Grey Faerie Usuki Doll Wearable. Now we all witnessed Iridesia's transformation earlier this year so this look feels a little dated. Or even offensive. But we'll try to be charitable and just say dated. It's not necessarily bad, the craftsmanship is very clearly top notch. But maybe it's time to upgrade it, for their sake. And for the worst dressed we have selected Collectable Usuki Enthusiast Usuki Wearable. What is this? This is nothing. This is just a goofy smile. There is no creativity. No artistry. No whimsy. There is nothing. I understand if you are low on Neopoints and might not be able to afford an elaborate cosplay. But don't pretend you did something here. And don't come for us saying it's minimalist or whatever else. Minimalist still implies effort. Top 5 Best Dressed Let's get positive. Here were the best looks of the convention! Some are regulars to the list and some are first timers. Congratulations! Down at number 5 we have Leeroy Quiguki Doll Wearable. Wow, spot on for Leeroy and especially the Leeroy Quiguki. Normally we try to stay with Usukis due to the name of the convention and all but this one was too good to pass up. It was absolutely fabulous and creepy. And we mean that as a compliment. No shade to Leeroy, of course. At number 4 we have Summer Fun Usuki Wearable. See now this is what is truly fun in the sun, no sewer emerging here. Effortlessly beautiful and looking ready for the beach. The simple touch of the flower being real makes it all the more soft and believable. Coming in at number 3 is Gamer Usuki Wearable. This is a good example of dressing down. The comfy hoodie, the headset, the slippers. Chef's kiss! We know who you are and you look good doing it. Striking the perfect balance of "I don't care" and "well, maybe a little" in this look. What would have made it stand out is playing a real game, not just a cardboard cutout. But it still works and completes the look. At number 2 is Meridell Usuki Queen Wearable. Every convention needs a pretty queen, and we found one here. All the young Neopians were asking her for photos, some even for her autograph thinking she was a real queen. It was quite a sight! That's how you know you have a successful cosplay on your hands. Or paws. And finally our best dressed is Usukicon Y9 Collectable Plushie Wearable. I mean, come on. Not only did they pull deep all the way back to Year 9, but they managed to give themselves a Plushie look. They look like a real Usuki doll! This is a Neopian who beyond committed to their craft and we cannot celebrate them enough for it. Plus, not only did they look amazing they had amazing acting abilities. They spent much of the convention acting like a plushie, others didn't know if they were real at points! Overly committed to the craft. If there is something better than number one, that is you. Final Thoughts Usukicon is always a fun time for fans of the dolls and for fans of cosplay. We saw some interesting trends this year in both, from minimalist and dressing down to famous Neopians to summertime fun. It is always a risk to put yourself out there cosplay and fashion wise. But, perhaps, some out there could try a little harder. And others will have to outdo themselves next year – we are counting on it!
