Top Five Flashless Ways to Improve Your Account

by jodeusp

--------

While having an impressive account is far from the only reason to play Neopets, it’s certainly a goal of many long-time players and newbies alike. The site offers so much to aspire towards, and there are so many great opportunities to show off what you’ve been able to build through your time spent playing. It’s true that some trophies and avatars are currently inaccessible due to the transition from flash, but there are still plenty of ways to work towards account improvement and build up the prestige of your profile. Here are a few suggestions of where to apply your industrious spirit:

     1. Art and Writing Submissions

In my opinion, submitting entries to Neopian contests such as the Beauty Contest, Poetry Contest, and the Story Competition is the best flash-less way to improve your account quickly. Each time you win one of these contests, you can look forward to a new or upgraded trophy on your pet page or user account. Many submission-based entries, such as the Poetry contest and story competition, also include a rare item when you win.

The Beauty Contest is based on a public voting system, so it’s also a great opportunity to be social on the boards and get to know some fellow Neopians as you campaign for votes! The Art Neoboard is full of talented Neopians that are often willing to share their tips and tricks for a successful campaign.

Between the Beauty Contest, Storytelling Competition, Poetry Contest, Caption Contest, Neopian Times, and Art Gallery, there’s enough to always keep you striving for something new! You’re likely to feel creatively inspired to try your hand at one type of entry or another, especially when guided by the themed pet days and holidays of each passing month. It’s always so satisfying to see your work published on the site! Additionally, these contests require you to hone some real-world art and writing skills, which is always a bonus.

Not gifted at art or writing? Try for a Spotlight like the Gallery Spotlight or Customization Spotlight instead!

     2. Restocking

At some point many years back, I paid Neopoints to significantly upgrade the size of my shop, and yet I never seem to keep it fully stocked! I was admittedly someone who would turn to flash games to make quick Neopoints rather than investing the time and knowledge needed to learn the ins and outs of restocking like a pro. Recently, however, I’ve learned there’s no rush quite like sniping that prized item at exactly the right moment. It feels like winning the lottery every time.

Although it can take some practice, learning what valuable items to look for at a few different shops is a great investment for earning Neopoints as well as developing an impressive shop on your account! Restocking is considered to be one of the most lucrative ways to earn Neopoints, and you may be surprised how quickly you see profits. As a bonus, choose to restock at a Neopian shop where you might find some items you can add to your gallery!

      3. Pet Training & Battledome

I have always enjoyed playing the low-level Battledome challengers, and I’ve consequently been hoarding codestones for many years. Even though I've always kept the codestones I've earned tucked away in my safety deposit box, I've never really committed to training my pet in an intentional or systematic way. Lately, I’ve added the Mystery Island Training School as well as the Battledome to my dailies on the site. It’s so satisfying to be able to increase the difficulty of challengers I’m facing, and finally unlock some different items and drops than the ones I was consistently getting.

I’m admittedly still a newbie in the realms of the Battledome, but I’m looking forward to learning even more about all the gear, abilities, and tricks. In terms of your account, a trained pet is considered quite an impressive feat, and can also help you out in trading pets if you have your eyes on a dreamie.

      4. Feeding Kadoaties

Whether or not you already have the avatar, or have never tried feeding at all, there is no time like the present to learn and master the art of Kadding. Personally, I’ve been slowly working towards the avatar for a very long time, and nothing impresses me more on other people’s accounts than a high number of Kadoaties fed. Each Kad fed is a success in itself. Not only do you get to turn a sad, dejected little petpet into a smiling bundle of joy, but you actively get to watch that number on your profile climb.

There is a thread in the games forum that will help you learn how to feed, as well as keep you updated on the times that feeding is available.

     5. NeoQuest, Plushie Tycoon, and Other Longer Games

NeoQuest, NeoQuest II, and Plushie Tycoon are all the type of games that takes quite a bit of a commitment to see all the way through to the end. Still, each one of these three come with its own avatars and trophies if you’ve never played them before. Even if you have played through at least once, there are probably still upgrades you can earn, or personal bests you can beat. While I’ve earned trophies for completing both NeoQuest II and Plushie Tycoon, I’m now having fun working my way through the crazy, twisting maps of the original NeoQuest. The story is quirky, and it’s definitely challenging to face each of the bosses as they arrive-- and I’m only playing on Normal mode!

There are also puzzle games like Cellblock and Sewage Surfer that come with their own avatars and trophies, and don't require Flash. While each round of these games is pretty manageable on its own, it can definitely take time and commitment to work through the levels towards those more prestigious awards! I find Cellblock particularly challenging.

This is by no means a comprehensive guide of account improvement without flash. There are so many ways to spend your time, love, and Neopoints in this beautiful world! Whether you decide to finally try your hand at some of the CSS/HTML coding features or join a guild for zapping and rehoming pets, you are sure to find your niche and thrive. My hope is that this guide helps inspire you to try something new, or maybe inspires you to revisit some old forgotten features that you haven’t explored in a while. Good luck and happy playing!
