Lonely Ruben Makes a Friend by ayakae
--------
This poem is about a Scorchio named Ruben
Who was painted in glorious shades of fire
But sadly Ruben also suffered from allergies
And every sneeze he took made things dire
He would sneeze at home and sneeze in school
Setting fire to things big and small, up and down
And while his parents were used to his situation
Ruben’s classmates never liked having him around
They teased and jeered and mocked poor Ruben
Every time his homework burst into flames
They always told him he was too dangerous
To join them for lunch or play in their games
Ruben begged his parents to change his colour
But alas, a new paint brush his parents could not get
“We would love to paint you a new colour, sweetie,
But we’re so sorry we can’t afford it just yet.”
And so, poor lonely Ruben still went to class
Alone from the morning to the end of the day
How he wished that his sorrows and loneliness
Would magically go up, up, and away
One afternoon as he was walking home from school
He heard a noise that sounded like a squawk
To his right was a lake where people fished
And the sound was coming from the fishing dock
He went closer to find the source of the noise
Which sounded so sad, it was impossible to ignore
And what should little Ruben find in a puddle
But a poor, wet, and shivering Moltenore
“Hey there, little guy. Are you alright?”
Ruben cooed at it as he held it in his arms
The Petpet let out a grateful chirp and purr
“Come on, let’s get you nice and warm.”
Suddenly, Ruben felt a powerful sneeze coming
The lake is surrounded by flowers, what could he do?
Ruben could feel his eyes welling up with tears
His body convulsing with the word, “ACHOO!”
A large fireball came out from Ruben’s mouth
And in his arms the Moltenore started to wriggle
But to Ruben’s immense relief and surprise
It was because the Petpet had let out a giggle!
The Moltenore had loved the sight of the fireball
And had relished the feel of the flame on its skin
The Petpet wasn’t shivering and wet any longer
And started feeling its natural heat from within
Ruben said, “I’m nursing you back to health, huh?
But well, you too have helped me feel better
I have always wanted a friend of my own
Come home with me and let’s be warm together.”
From then on, the little Moltenore was named Spark
And the home had not one fire hazard anymore, but two
But the days were now filled with fun and laughter
For Ruben and Spark and his parents too
And even when Ruben had been repainted to shadow
And was not surrounded by mean classmates anymore
Ruben would always treasure his beloved Spark
A little Scorchio and his best friend, a Moltenore
