Faerie Interesting Birthdays

by black_skull725

--------

Today at the Neopian Times, we bring you an exclusive answer to one of Neopia's most pressing questions: Do the Faeries celebrate birthdays?

We know that Neopets celebrate birthdays, and they often celebrate their Petpet's birthdays. However, nobody has really observed if the faeries do. We know the faeries have a festival celebrating all things faerie, and we know Illusen, Jhudora, and Fyora have their own special days. But it is abundantly clear that those aren't their actual birthdays; rather they are simply days dedicated to their biggest fans. To find the answer, we sent our resident Faerieland correspondent out on an assignment to find out by asking several faeries about their stance on birthdays. Here are the responses we got.

     1. Illusen

Hmm, birthdays? Hmm… see I don't even remember when I was born to be honest. It was quite long ago. I do enjoy the wonderful feast in Meridell for King Skarl's birthday though. But since I have so many Neopians bringing me things for my quests, I can't possibly accept more gifts and you know, there's already plenty of cake for my own holiday. So, for me, I don't really see a point. But I suppose if you wanted to bring me a cake, I'd be happy to share it with you.

     2. Jhudora

Birthdays? I'm way too old for that stuff. Do you realize how many candles you'd have to put on my cake? It'd be way more than you could afford. Besides, all this partying would distract me from my goals of ruining things for Fyora on a daily basis. I have quests to give and potions to create and magic to synthesize. Do you understand how much effort that is? I can barely get any sleep these days. You know what? If you're not here for a quest, then you are of no use to me. Scram!

     3. Siyana

Ahhh, well, King Altador has officially recorded the birthdays of his council, so I suppose that we do celebrate them. I never ask for any gifts though, just a nice dinner at Exquisite Ambrosia would do. He does try to give me something every year which I pass off to some random Altadorian. I prefer low-key celebrations though. Maybe a simple cake to go along with the meal. As for when it is, I'd prefer to keep that between the council members. You know, since if word got out, I'd worry others would try to throw some big event. I'd appreciate it if we kept it that way.

     4. Psellia

Zzzz… zzzz… huh? Oh hello, I was just having a nice nap. Birthday? Why yes, King Altador celebrates the birthday of all of his council members. To be fair, I'd prefer a nice nap to a party. But since he insists, I like a large cake and ah, a new comfy pillow or blanket or pyjamas would do. After all, comfort is absolutely necessary for getting adequate shuteye. Last year, I got Seffyling pyjamas, and I love them. Oh, when is it? Ah it's the last day of the Month of Sleeping.

     5. Taelia

My birthday is on the Day of Giving and nobody wants to plan for two parties with two sets of gifts. So, I simply celebrate both at the same time. It's not all lost, because the Snowager lets me pick whatever I want from his pile. And oh, Armin always brings me a wonderful gift that warms my heart, such as a snowglobe of my igloo. I used to lament that nobody wanted to celebrate with me, but since then, my neighbours and new Terror Mountain residents stop by, and we have a little gathering inside my igloo after everyone has visited the Advent Calendar.

     6. Baelia

Nobody really cares about my birthday. So, what's the point of celebrating- Tavi? Luxinia? Oh, what's all of this… a beautiful Faerie Castle Cake and new clothes? For me? I…Oh you really shouldn't have but thank you…

     7. Seshatia

Oh hmm… well I've come across various books that give me so many ideas on how to celebrate a birthday. Some celebrations are very elaborate where magical spells are involved to produce a wonderous display. Others are simple with just a cake and candles. However, I could never decide what kind of celebration I'd want for myself. I suppose as a librarian, I'd prefer something quieter, but if we aren't celebrating inside the library, then hmm, I'd at least entertain the idea of magical firecrackers going off. But as a result, I haven't really celebrated beyond some Neopians bringing me a card and a small gift.

     8. Luxinia

Ah, birthdays. As mayor of New Faerieland, we celebrate each other’s birthday. Although, I can’t remember when mine is. So, we decided the day Varia found me and Fyora freed me would be my new birthday. Jorett always bakes something nice for me, such as a wonderful Coral Sponge Cake and the others always find thoughtful gifts for me. I got a new fancy dress from Tia, some new furniture for my home from Varia, and Nephrite always finds fun books for me.

     9. Nuria

Well, certainly the traditions in the desert do treat birthdays as days of importance. Although I’ve not really been fond of cake, but Sweet Ummagine Rolls are my weakness. I invited a few friends from Sakhmet and Qasala and we enjoyed pastries and enjoyed each other's company. And then we end the day with a wonderful feast. Occasionally, a few other faeries join, but many of them aren't so acquainted with the weather here.

     10. Marina

Of course, I remember Seraphina's birthday. Well, we remember each other's special day. Now that Seraphina is allowed back in Faerieland, I can't wait to see the look on her face when she sees what gift I'm preparing for her. Oh, I've always wanted to share a cute little cottage with a quiet spring nearby. Of course, she does live in Tyrannia for part of the year, but soon, she'll finally have a nice place to call home in Faerieland. But wait, our Neohome is still under construction, so I won't tell you where it is.

     11. Seraphina

Now I would never dare to forget Marina's birthday. Even when I was banished from Faerieland, we would sneak away from Faerie City and find a quiet place to celebrate. Ah yes, I still remember the gemstones I found in a cave in Tyrannia. I managed to get them before the Beast showed up. They made a fine bracelet for her. But oh, I suppose now that I'm allowed in Faerieland again, I must search for an even lovelier gift for her. Of course, I'm not going to tell you what it is!

     12. Naia

Yes, for some reason, on my birthday, I get lots of gifts. However, somehow, I seem to also have folks expecting a quest in exchange so I'm not sure how I feel about it. Sometimes I feel like it's a day where others try to bribe me into granting them a new look. But I suppose that doesn't apply to other faeries who stop by with presents and cupcakes. Not sure, I appreciate it all I guess, but I can't help but think that some of it is an attempt to curry favour.

      13. Kari

Ooo, last birthday Mira and Taelia both stopped by and dropped off a lot of Neggs since it was also Neggfest. I wondered how they got so many! I wonder if Mira has been running experiments to grow them in space. Well anyways, it certainly was more than enough to restock the Neggery and allow us to grow even more Neggs. The more the merrier, of course. Next Neggfest is going to be a blast! Maybe this time, Topsi won't get into so much trouble!

     14. Mira

Time flows differently in space, and it's quite easy to lose track of it. It is hard for me to remember when my birthday is as a result. It would be difficult to celebrate that. So instead, I celebrate Grundo Independence Day with folks on the Space Station. It was the birth of the resistance to Dr. Sloth's plans, and that is worth celebrating. The space station has ways of packing a cake into a tube so rest assured, everyone gets a taste of cake for that special day.

     15. Ilere

Ugh, a pesky reporter. Can't you see that I'm busy? Birthdays? I don't have time for those. Do I look like someone who is into parties and gatherings? Who do you think I am, Illusen? Now be gone before I change my mind on sparing you from any of my magic.

     16. Kaia

Ah, yes, I celebrate with others back at home in Shenkuu. We base birthdays off of our Lunar Calendar so it may seem like it's a different day every year to the rest of you all. But we have a large gathering and share a grand meal together, often a hot pot or sushi. I may get a few small gifts. But the important thing is that we enjoy company with our friends. After all, it is another year of friendship, and we cherish that.

     17. Aethia

Ah, you know, the folks I lead insist on celebrating my birthday along with my best friend and confidant, Fyora. So, I will go along with it. Although the handmade weapon gifts I sometimes get… could use a little bit of work. Perhaps I should host a weapon making workshop. However, the sleeping potion ingredients, now those are nice gifts. I can never have too many sleeping potions. After all, being the Battle Faerie means I need to stay well rested and prepared for battle at all times!

     18. Fyora

Now wait a minute, you're not trying to get me to reveal my age, are you? No? Ok well, it's been a long time since I've last had much time to celebrate my birthday. I don't really desire any gifts from anyone since I've received many in my lifetime on Fyora Day, which by the way, is not my birthday. And I've tasted nearly every cake now. I feel like a birthday has lost its point for me. Besides, there's a void rift in the sky. I should not really be celebrating anything. After all, I've failed as a leader in so many ways in the past, and I must make up for it all. So good day to you, I have work to do.

Well, there we have it, the truth is the faeries all celebrate different ways and some don't at all. Regardless of whether they choose to celebrate, we are sure some of them would appreciate the birthday wishes. Others, maybe not so much. Remember, we are not responsible if you get blasted for wishing the wrong faerie a "Happy Birthday". But it turns out Faerieland records, courtesy of Nephrite, do indicate that today is Ilere's birthday. Do what you will with this information. Otherwise, this concludes our special report on faerie birthdays.
