 The Beauty in Those Turned Away

The way that you just turned your head away,
I once did too when Mutant Petpets looked my way.
But everyone deserves to still feel beautiful,
so I hope you’ll take to heart these words I say.
This Warf is more than crooked teeth and bulging eyes,
or misshapen legs of every awkward size.
It was passed over day by day, deemed unsuitable;
even I tried to walk right past, ignoring all its cries.
But I’m glad that on that day it stole a glance from me,
with a lopsided grin as sweet as one could be.
Its unpainted siblings had been chosen, one and all,
yet there it stood, tail still wagging furiously.
I sat down and scratched behind its uneven ears,
then it curled into my lap and nestled near.
Though my first impression now seems unforgivable,
it opened up with a warmth so innocent and sincere.
So I took this little Warf and brought him home that day,
and made it my mission to find homes for those turned away.
I opened up this shop for Petpets strange and oddly colourful,
so come inside and find a mutant friend to love today.
This dishevelled Angelpuss would love to leave with you,
but the swollen eye of this Faellie might just charm you too;
Passing up this blotchy Yullie would simply be criminal,
but this Kadoatie’s might win you over with its shaky mew.
If loving what looks different means we’re living the wrong way,
I’d gladly still choose these Mutant Petpets every day.
I hope your old misconceptions finally fall,
and if this makes us wrong, let’s be content to stay this way!
