Secret Laboratory Shapeshifter

by hanna_banana

--------

What an exciting day when you get access to the secret laboratory,
Sidling up to the scientist, imagining your newfound beauty and glory.
He greets you with a cackling laugh and eyes a little hypnotic,
This doesn’t yet give you pause, as of course he’s a little chaotic.

“Step right up to my machine, I promise this won’t hurt a bit”
With trembling legs you step up to the spot, summoning all of your grit.
The machine charges up with a crackling pop, ready to give you a zap,
An arc and a spark and light surrounds you; it’s starting to feel like a trap.

Your body feels strange, like it’s morphing and twisting in shape,
What has happened to you? Maybe it’s time to run and escape.
As the bolts settle down, the scientist hands you a mirror,
You let out a gasp; this can’t be right, rubbing your eyes to see a bit clearer.

It’s true this has happened, it’s plain to be seen,
You have only one eye and antennae so mean.
“How do you like it?” the scientist asks with glee,
With tears in your eye, “change me back” you plea.

“Well that can’t be done, but an option for you,
Is to step back up and go for zap number two!”
It hardly feels like a choice, so back up you go,
How could it be worse? At this point, you go with the flow.

Three, two, one and the sparks fill the air,
Dragging you into the burst of the flare.
As the light subsides, you look back to see,
Hmm, interesting, could this be the real me?

Pale green and twisty, four eyes peer back,
On one tail you slither, but aren’t taken aback,
This feels like it suits; the experiment is done,
You’ll keep this look, after all, two heads are better than one.
