 Ode to Your New Koi

Koi Day has just happened, and I know we will have
So many questions from new Koi-owners that be!
Number one, of course, if you walk on land
And your Koi swims in the sea,
Can you still play with your new Koi,
Or must you let them be?
Well, I have good news for you
About the Koi that you get,
For you see if you’re lonely and need company
A Koi is aquatic and makes a great pet;
They’ll swim in the sea, sure,
But do they cuddle? You bet!
And okay sure it might be
Just a teeny time bit well…wet,
A little bit slimey, and maybe a bit cold,
Just a touch uncomfortable, and yet,
With your Koi’s sweet nature
Any discomfort, I’m sure you’ll forget!
Even then if you worry, there are precautions to take
You could invest in waterproof clothes,
You buy lots of spares and some snorkles
That would help cover your nose,
And buy some wetsuits and flippers,
Oh yes and towels - lots of those!
For you see, I can promise you,
Your new Koi’s worth every bit
Of work and preparation
To get everything ready and set,
And my best advice is simply,
Give a hug without worry about getting wet!
The only thing left to worry about,
Is how you want to paint your Koi,
Because there’s so many colours to pick from
And so many options to enjoy,
There’s lots of great choices like Gold and Green,
Like Marble or Chocolate, like Royal and Toy.
Whatever you pick, just be sure
To give your new pet lots of care.
Give them hugs and cuddles,
Lots of snuggles and snacks to share,
For your Koi will bring you great happiness,
Even if you can’t take them everywhere!
