Weewoo Watching: A Guide to the 10 Rarest Weewoos by notooryous
--------
Hello there, fellow Neopian. If you’ve been playing Neopets for as long as I have, you’ve most likely already made it past your quarter-life crisis and moved on to less traumatic hobbies. Biking. Reading. And every seasoned Neopian’s favourite… Weewoo Watching. You don’t wake up one day and declare yourself a Weewoo watcher. It happens gradually, without you even realizing it. One day, you notice a Weewoo perched on a nearby branch outside the window of your Neohome. Later, you casually decide to pick up a copy of I Know Why the Caged Weewoo Sings. Then suddenly, you’ve got three different sets of binoculars, a shelf full of field guides, and copious amounts of sunscreen. You now show up late to functions on a semi-regular basis because you spotted a Yellow Weewoo flying by, and that felt important. If you’d like to know more, and I know you do, the following is a guide to the Rarest Weewoos in Neopia. Rare Weewoos are not always rare in the scientific sense. Some still exist in large numbers. They just choose not to show up for you. But when they do, they show up with presence and a dramatic display of colour that will leave you repeatedly telling your friends, "I swear I saw one once," like you’re recounting folklore. Without further ado, here are the ten rarest Weewoos you are most likely to become unusually invested in. Maraquan Weewoo
Starting off strong with the only Weewoo who knows how to swim, we proudly present the Maraquan Weewoo. Native to Krawk Island, it is named after the rather haunting melody it sings. At dusk, if you’re lucky and very deep under water for some odd reason, you may be able to hear a chorus of Weee…Woooo in the watery distance. Its blue and teal colours blend in well with the water, so many of the recorded "sightings" are still unconfirmed. I wouldn’t get your hopes up if I were you. Darigan Weewoo
In Y3, scientists started noticing Weewoos migrating all across Neopia. One of the first places a Weewoo was spotted outside of Krawk Island was Darigan. The Darigan Weewoo sports a lovely coat of purple feathers and, most notably, a Resting Bird Face. It is a well known fact that this particular Weewoo does not want to be bothered by Neopians and spends most of its time hiding on the spires of Lord Darigan’s Chambers. Bring your strongest pair of binoculars if you plan on spotting this one. Disco Weewoo
The Disco Weewoo, as you might suspect, is always dancing and therefore is incredibly difficult to track down. Known for constantly being on the move, this is one Weewoo you won’t be able to observe from a single vantage point. You may think this Weewoo only knows how to disco, and that would be a reasonable assumption given the name. However, it’s also been seen salsa dancing, doing the cha-cha slide, and one report from the book Adventure Bound Xweetok claims to have seen the Disco Weewoo doing the waltz! For your best odds of a sighting, keep an eye out for rhythmic movement among the flower fields in Neopia Central. Mutant Weewoo
Dr. Frank Sloth is well known for capturing a large number of Grundos and mutating them into stronger forms to draft into his army. A lesser-known fact is that Dr. Sloth also captured Weewoos to be used as aerial messengers in his army. The Weewoos fought hard against the mutation of their species, and while they are no longer enslaved by Dr. Sloth, they exist only in small numbers today, rumoured to be fewer than 200. You may be able to catch a sighting around Virtupets, though sightings are extremely rare. A mutant Weewoo unfortunately has not been seen since Y21. Sketch Weewoo
Dare I say this one speaks for itself? The Sketch Weewoo is a rare find for obvious reasons. It’s incredibly hard to see. Most sightings hesitantly describe the body as a "vague Weewoo shape" that "seemed to disappear as soon as it took flight!" These almost-invisible cuties are most commonly found on Roo Island, where the warm temperatures are more comfortable for their barely there feathers. Blink and you might miss them! Robot Weewoo
The Robot Weewoo was crafted as an extremely exclusive, limited edition companion to the first wave of Robot Neopets in the early 2000s. Manufactured completely by hand by Adam and Donna, only 1050 units in total were made. Today, an estimated 500 units remain, and over the years, the remnants of defunct Robot Weewoos have made their way into various museums and galleries. Despite their endangered status, you can still manage to see these friendly mechanical munchkins across many different Neopian lands. They commonly flock toward The Freaky Factory, The Chocolate Factory, and Kreludor Industries. Chocolate Weewoo
Listen, we know they look tasty. We really do understand. But for the love of Fyora, please stop allowing your pets to eat them! These poor Weewoos are so endangered solely because they are just too delicious. They don’t ask to be made this way, and the fear of being consumed as dessert has made the current population retreat into hiding. Take this as your public service announcement to go vegan and leave the poor Chocolate Weewoos alone. Unbeknownst to many, painting your Pets isn’t the only thing you can do at the Rainbow Pool. It’s also a hidden gem for Rainbow Weewoo watching. You’ll have to pay very close attention, because these Weewoos blend in perfectly with the rainbow, and they love to spend the majority of their time washing their feathers and relaxing under the colorful waters of the rainbow. Don’t forget to bring a poncho! Snow Weewoo
The Snow Weewoo is unassuming. You may not expect a color as simple as snow to make our Top Ten Rarest Weewoos list, but it’s rare for an incredibly good reason. Native to Terror Mountain, these Weewoos spend their winters hibernating amongst a massive pile of treasure in the Ice Caves. That’s right, Snow Weewoos love to cozy up with the Snowager to keep warm during the long, cold winter months. We must advise that you please do not attempt to get near the Snowager’s treasure in an attempt to spot a Snow Weewoo, lest you become the victim of an icy blast. Gold Weewoo
Last but certainly not least, the rarest Weewoo of them all, drumroll please, is the Gold Weewoo. Not only is this one of two Lab Ray exclusive Weewoos (the other being the Chocolate Weewoo, seriously, stop eating them!), it is also a brand new colour of Weewoo. Born on January 27th, 2024, the Gold Weewoo has only been around for about a year at the time of writing. So while they certainly shine bright and are very hard to miss, sightings across Neopia remain relatively uncommon. Early sightings have recorded a friendly disposition and a cheerful chirp from these new friends. We hope to see more of them appearing across Neopia in the years to come! There you have it folks, what better wait to celebrate Issue #1050 than with everyone's favourite Neopian Times mascot? You can now show up to the dinner table with endless Weewoo fun facts, you’re welcome. I suggest you start early in the year if you want to check all of these Weewoos off of your watch list!

Shadow of the Night Cinder gestured for Shadow to follow them behind the Cork Gun Gallery, where a small campfire burned in a sheltered spot, hidden from casual view. Several large bags and equipment cases were stacked nearby.
