Quote of the Week

As the three faeries prepared dinner, they did not notice that the bag had tipped over and several bottles rolled out of it and down a hill and into a nearby stream. Made of virtually indestructible material, they floated further downstream into a larger river that carried them to the outskirts of Faerieland.

An Illusen Approved Guide to Greener Eating

It is no mystery that Illusen is a well-known protector of Neopia’s natural environments, and over the years, her determination for a greener Neopia has never dwindled. Being an Earth Faerie does mean she has a hereditary connection to the lands, but her passion is not directly a result of this. She has always offered protection to Neopians wounded, ill, frightened or in danger, showing that her considerate nature is just who she is, and will continue to forever be. Illusen is a fierce advocate for kinder choices when it comes to the foods that Neopians are consuming, knowing all too well that in doing so, they are also making much healthier choices for themselves. Eating ‘greener’ is an easy and practical way to protect the Neopian lands whilst boosting their bodies with loads of nutrients they won’t necessarily find in other Neopian foods. This guide will highlight some of Illusen’s favourites, along with some readily available options throughout Neopia if you happen to be travelling. There is always a greener choice! Illusen has numerous speciality-made foods which are very popular and never disappoint. They are easily found and can also be purchased in bulk from a number of different vendors. In Meridell, Illusen’s favourite place, you will be able to find the famous Illusen Day Burger and Illusen's Green Goddess Potato Salad at Merifoods. For a shop that is housed in the land of the Wise King, one would think that there are some items for sale that are named after Illusen in Brightvale Fruits. Bad taste for naming their items aside, the fruits that you can buy there are all delicious and very good for you. Why not purchase one of each while you’re there? Go for the Assorted Brightvale Fruit Basket, and you’re all set. Maybe you could even buy a Fresh-Squeezed Grenelon Juice to drink on the road; the colour palette for that juice seems very on point. At the Bakery in the Neopian Bazaar there are countless goodies to choose from, both sweet and savoury.

Must Haves to Channel Your Inner Illusen

Illusen is an Earth Faerie who is loved by many throughout Neopia and is a personal favourite of mine. She is warm, kind, and welcoming to those from all around. I believe that Illusen has many characteristics that people can emulate to help them be their very best. After much thinking, I have come up with the Must Have Items in Neopia to help you ‘Channel Your Inner Illusen.’ These items will help you look the part as well as act it. First and foremost, taking care of your hair like Illusen is an imperative step. If you want to have beautiful hair like Illusen you will absolutely need the items listed below: Adorable Illusen Wig Approximate Price: 1.2 million NP Item Description: Illusens signature hair but in a fashionable new way! While this new hairstyle can be a little on the expensive side, it is a beautiful way to revamp Illusen’s signature style. The colors are the same as the Illusen we all know and love, but in a new and refreshing style that will help you keep up with the latest fashion trends. Illusen Wig Approximate Price: 19,000 NP Item Description: If you ever wanted to have hair like the famous Earth faerie, now is your chance! Neopian Botany 101

Introduction As a novice botanist, walking through a forest can feel like a portal into an unknown world. A sea of green (although in Darigan wild areas, it's more purple and red than green) waves to you in the light breeze, all seemingly the same. But what if I told you that every plant holds secrets to be unlocked? The key is the study of botany. Just as one recognises a friend by their freckles, their laugh, or their fuzzy mop of hair, you can use a unique collection of traits to identify an unknown plant species. Start by looking for patterns and group species into categories based on their shared traits. It's just like a game of Hungry Skeith, where you keep the red, blue, and green jellies in their own bins. From there, continue separating each group until you're left with only one option. That's what we science lovers call a dichotomous key! I’ll describe each pattern with visual species examples. And as plant-loving Neopians use a lot of jargon, I'll be defining the terms that I use. Alternate vs Opposite branching Opposite - as the tree grows new branches, they form buds directly across from one another. This creates a "t" shape at every intersection. Alternate - as the tree grows new branches, they form buds diagonally from one another. Think of it like a zigzag pattern. Most trees in the tri-kingdom area (Darigan Citadel, Meridell, Brightvale, respectively) tend to have alternate branching. If a tree has opposite branches, that can be a good way of differentiating it from similar-looking species. The most prominent opposite trees are Maple, Ash, and Lupewood, the mnemonic of which is MAL. Red Maple in particular tends to have red buds and stems, and turns a brilliant scarlet in the fall. Ash can have greenish bark or look lichen-covered. And Lupewood is known for its large, white flowers with four (or sometimes five) petals.

"Illusen and the Silent Glade" by restrictedsection
Illusen woke up early at dawn to the sunlight streaming in, but instantly she noticed something was off. Slowly getting up and feeling rather confused, Illusen realized she heard no rustling of leaves or birdsong that usually welcomed her to a brand new day. There seemed to be no sound at all coming from the Glade that was usually brimming with activity. Illusen padded outside and looked around where she could see that there was the usual hustle and bustle throughout the Glade. She could see Dragoyles flitting through the trees, Symols burrowing their holes, and Mortogs that appeared to be croaking, floating on lily pads. Despite all this, Illusen realized she could not hear a thing. There was an absence of sound and it startled her. She had never experienced such quiet before in the forest that was so full of life. Walking up to a pair of Whinnies playing a game of tag, Illusen knelt down and said hello. She had a gift when it came to communicating with others, but even though she could tell the Whinnies heard her and were excitedly greeting her back, she could still hear nothing. The Whinnies ran off and continued their game of tag leaving Illusen confused and a little overwhelmed. "Something is wrong," she thought. "The Glade can hear me, but I cannot hear a thing from it." Trying not to panic, Illusen walked over to a flower that appeared to be wilting and attempted to use her magic to help it bloom again. The flower remained unchanged. Illusen was shocked. Never had her magic rendered her incapable of communicating with the earth around her. She was a notable Earth Faerie after all. A feeling of anxiety filled her as she continued walking through the forest. She came upon a tree that had a branch that was broken and sighed. Calling on her magic from within, Illusen attempted to mend the branch. It remained the same, dangling from the tree.

"Illusen's Quest" by greencheese79
Kiera heard the rhythmic pattering of rain begin its chorus against the living room window pane and her heart leaped in excitement. "It's raining!" The Green Usul cheered out to her dad, landing two firm palms against the glass and nearly her entire face. "You have to go outside with me!" She had already been outside once to look around, as was her annual tradition on Illusen Day. This day, to her, marked the first day of Spring, and she loved to see all of the changes the day would bring. Even the birds seemed to change their morning melodies to welcome in the new season. "Sorry, hun. I just put your brother down for a nap. I can't leave him in the house by himself," her dad answered from the kitchen. Kiera's lower lip trembled a bit from the unexpected answer. One of her favourite memories was three years earlier on Illusen Day when her dad spent most of the afternoon with her in the rain. They spent much of their time taking shelter in her tree fort, but they enjoyed the first day of Spring together. "Why does he always spoil special moments?" Kiera said, tears welling in her eyes as she entered the kitchen. She loved her younger brother, but every time she did anything fun, it somehow ended because of him. As though he was sabotaging her special moments. Her dad sensed this, as it was often a topic that came up when Kiera was disappointed. "Come in here. Mom made us some hot chocolate before she left to visit grandma," he said, gesturing towards a pair of steaming mugs on the kitchen table. Kiera gave a weak smile and sat down. It was cozy drinking hot chocolate on rainy days. She took a sip, but her signature pout failed to melt away. "It's okay. I know you love Illusen Day," her dad said to acknowledge her frustration. "But don't you remember the last time it rained on Illusen Day? We had so much fun outside together. And now Nelson-" Kiera said, but...

"Minutes from the Glade’s Monthly Planning Meeting" by _myst_queen
I. Call to Order Meeting was called to order by Illusen at approximately dusk. Lanterns were lit in the birch trees for a cosy atmosphere. Tea was served on the main stump of the meeting area in the clearing by the Mortogs’ pond. - Attendees Present: Illusen (Chair), Silas Blacktail (Senior Groundskeeper), Earth Faeries Verdessa, Faelith, and Thirra (Seasonal Advisors), The Western Birch (nonverbal, but always present), One Mortog (Ambiance Coordinator), Rowan Willowhart (Executive Assistant). - Attendees Absent: N/A - Note that the Mortog is not on payroll, but has voting rights. II. Approval of Previous Minutes Correction requested by Verdessa for her and her sisters to not be referred to as “Official Seasonal Advisors, Unofficial Frequent Dissenters.” - Mortog croaked in laughter, but voted in favor. Western Birch rustled branches and abstained. Striped Meerca Silas Blacktail opposed, stating the description was accurate. Illusen carried the vote in favor. Moving forward, the sisters will only be referred to as “Seasonal Advisors” in meeting notes. Outcome: Motion carried. III. Quest Difficulty Calibration Discussion Topics: - Whether 15 and 30 minute timers for questers are “character-building” or “unnecessary distress to mental health.” - Clarification on the use of r99s items after quest Level 36. - Proposal to slightly reduce quests involving items not found in Neopian shops, player shops, Auction House, or Trading Post. Discussion proceeded with Faelith mentioning starting r99 items at Level 36 is quite fair considering another faerie starts hers at Level 30. Silas Blacktail brought up that the timers keep the Glade lively and contribute to the highly sought after High Score Table and associated trophies. Thirra reiterated that the materials required for prize-crafting were not self-replenishing.
