"Your pizza has arrived, sire.”
King Jazan looked up from the scroll he was reading. In the doorway stood a Nimmo guard, holding a flat, square cardboard box.
The king of Qasala rose to his feet with a grin. “Ah, excellent!” he said, reaching for the box. “Thank you. This will complete Nabile’s and my evening of card games quite nicely. Nabile!” he called over his shoulder. “Pizza’s here!”
“Great!” Nabile replied from the other room, where she was looking for their deck of cards.
Jazan’s mouth watered as he lifted the lid of the pizza box, eager to enjoy each cheesy slice. Suddenly, however, a pungent odour wafted out of the box and into his face, making his nose wrinkle. It smelled like— His eyes widened in horror. “Oh, bother,” he said with a frown. “They messed up and added mushrooms.” He hated mushrooms.
“You could just pick them off, sire,” the Nimmo suggested.
“It’s too late,” Jazan sighed. “Their taste leaks into the cheese and ruins the whole pizza.”
“Would you like me to find the delivery-Blumaroo for you, Your Majesty?” the guard asked. “I’m sure he can’t have gone too far.”
Jazan held out a hand. “No, no. I’m a sorcerer—I can certainly solve a problem as petty as the wrong pizza topping.” He strode over to the table and set down the offending food, grimacing at the overpowering stench of mushrooms. “It’s nothing a simple curse can’t take care of. Observe.”
