Haunted Woods Travel Brochure

by venturecaptalist

--------

There is a land south of Neopia Central, north of Lost Desert, and west of Faerieland that strikes fear into the hearts of many a Neopian: the Haunted Woods. This is an extensive guide for anyone brave enough to go or scared enough to stay away. Or simply anyone else who may be curious.

The Haunted Woods is broken up into two parts: the Woods and the Deserted Fairground. As such we will be exploring the points of interest in each locale. Perhaps it will inspire you to take a visit, or at least it will encourage you to learn about a faraway land if you have no intention of visiting such a terrifying place. But remember – not everything is what it seems at first, so perhaps it is best to reserve such judgements.

     The Haunted Woods

The name Haunted Woods is a bit of a misnomer – it’s more of a haunted maze. The paths are designed to get you lost and the trees keep you from seeing too far ahead to keep you lost. If you get too far off the paths and end up in the outskirts and you might run into folks such as Sophie the Swamp Witch or Gorunda the Wise; that’s when you know you’ve left the Woods and have wandered too far. Stick to the path and these listed areas and you will run into minimal trouble.

     Games

     Fetch

This is a game that is a maze within a maze. You play a Blumaroo that is tasked with retrieving a specific item from within the maze and getting out within a certain number of moves. The maze is randomly generated and you can only see a portion of the map at any given time. It takes some guesswork to find the item, but the exit will always be the opposite from where you began.

     MAGAX: Destroyer II

In this game you play as MAGAX as he attempts to beat his former master Hubrid Nox and his undead army, and save Neopia once more. Fly around and shoot the ghosts, being careful that they do not run into you and take you out first.

     The Castle of Eliv Thade

Od uoy kile sganmara? Oodg ewns. Layp sa Lilgy sa hes xlpseroe nda riste ot olclcet lal hte etmis ni het atcles adn atek htem ot eht pytrc ofrbee ienbg olwleda ot aevle hte stalec.

     The Haunted House

This is more of a story than a game, but here you can choose your own adventure by deciding how you would react to a scenario and follow along to the story. There are no consequences to anything otherwise so you can really do what you like here.

     The Game Graveyard

This is where old games go to rest. You can find old versions of current games here as well as some games that never made their return to the site and see exactly when they retired. There are no high score tables or Neopoints that can be won from these games. If you stick around and refresh a while you can earn yourself an avatar.

     Activities

     Colouring Pages

An evil denizen of the woods took all the colour out of these fun scenes and only you can restore it. Are you up to the challenge?

     Neopets Masks

If you have ever wondered what you would look like as a Neopet, now is your chance. You can print these out, cut out the eye holes, tie some string around the ends around your end, and boom. Now you can look like your favourite Neopet. Perfect for Halloweentime or any time.

     The Stone Dome

If you are up to the challenge, step into the Stone Dome and take on some very difficult challengers for a shot at some very exciting prizes. You can fight some of the folks you may run into here in town such as Esophagor, Brain Tree, Edna, and Sidney. There are also others who tend to fight in this dome such as Meuka and the Black Pteri. Now we aren’t here to tell you how to get them as challengers or how to beat them, but if you were looking to fight them this is the place to do it.

     Shopping

     Spooky Petpets

If you and your Neopet are in the market for a new mini best friend look no further than the Spooky Petpets shop! You can pick up such friends as a Meepit, Bergher, Slorg, Ghostkerchief, and more! If you are looking to paint them you will have to stop by the Petpet Puddle in Neopian Central, however.

     Famous Residents’ Homes

     The Brain Tree

The Brain Tree is on a never ending quest for knowledge. You can help him complete this quest by taking on a quest! He will ask you a question and you must go find the two answers for a prize. But how? By visiting his nearby neighbor. He is a tree so he can’t quite reach. But his neighbor can go anywhere so he has managed to learn a lot.

     Esophagor

This insatiable pile of unknown substance known as the Esophagor just wants to eat. If you want to try to help him with this unending desire you can. He will ask for one to three items. Upon successfully completing a quest he will provide you an answer to one of the Brain Tree’s questions OR give you a prize. They have developed this mutually beneficial relationship over the years and no one is quite sure why.

     Edna

High in her tower sits Edna the Witch. She is always tinkering and creating new spells. If you are interested in helping her she will let you do so up to ten times a day (in combination with Taelia and Kitchen quests). She will send you on an errand to get between one and three items. Return with them for a reward! And potentially help a dangerous witch create a dangerous spell. Your call though.

     The Deserted Fairground

In the back of the Haunted Woods sits the Deserted Fairground. There are many creepy carnies looking to trick you into giving them your hard earned Neopoints; if you’re lucky you may win a prize, but the games can be a bit challenging. You will also find many other rides and games that are a healthy amount of spooky fun that cost nothing and are less challenging.

     Games

     Scratchcards

Sssidney will sssell you a ssscratchcard here. Ssscratch off up to six circles and if you get three in a row – you win! But are you sure you trust him?

     Cork Gun Gallery

In this totally not rigged game, you aim at the prize you want to knock it off the shelf. You have up to twenty tries per day and it costs 100 Neopoints per shot.

     Bagatelle

No the board isn’t tilted – that’s just you. Chuck that little Mootix onto the board for 250 Neopoints and hope it lands in a slot for a prize or some Neopoints.

     Test Your Strength

How hard can you hit that red button? Swing with all your strength and find out for only 100 Neopoints. If you’re really strong you can end up on the high score table and possibly even take home a trophy to make everyone jealous of your strength.

     Coconut Shy

Do you want a lovely bunch of coconuts for your stamp album? Well here you go! You can get them for free – well 100 Neopoints – by knocking them down. What? You can totally knock them down.

     Carnival of Terror

Dr. Sloth sent an army of robot Chia clowns to this carnival and now it is up to you to save them! Shoot down the clowns and watch out for pies before time runs out.

     Wheel of Misfortune

At 150 Neopoints a spin, this sounds like a steal. However the prizes are less than desirable. You often lose items, your pets get sick, and you can lose more money. You can still win prizes – but do you want to risk it?

     Activities

     Castle Nox

It hasn’t been used for quite some time but you can still enjoy looking around Hubrid Nox’s castle. It used to house the Neocash game Corridor of Chance.

     Ghost Neopets

If you’ve been thinking about a new paint job you can find out what your Neopet would look like as a ghost here. Keep in mind this is an older page and closer to Umbra’s styles than a modern Rainbow Pool style.

     Shopping

     Spooky Food

If you’re in the mood for some Pumpkin Pie or Tongue with Veggies you can stock up here. You can find all of this and more for sale in between your games at the fair.

     Spooky Furniture

If you need to renovate your Neohome, why not make it creepy? You can pick up a Skull Table or a Squishy Spyder Chair to delight and/or horrify your guests. They will ship to anywhere in Neopia so you don’t have to worry about packing it in your suitcase.

     Haunted Weaponry

If you are in need of a weapon before you hit up the Stone Dome you can stop in here. Various aesthetics and various types of weapons for battlers of all skill levels.

     Conclusion

We hope you enjoyed this tour through the Haunted Woods. Hopefully you learned something about this fascinating land. Maybe you decided it’s not so scary after all. Maybe you decided it’s too scary. Maybe you just need to see for yourself before you decide.

Be sure to book an excursion today - if you dare!
