The Day of Giving has so many unique traditions like decorating the tree, hanging magic faerie lights, and of course visiting Reina's yearly Advent Calendar. "Never Too Grumpy for the Holiday Spirit" by surging
The sun rose over the neighbourhood. Like clockwork the young Neopets of all species excitedly jumped out of bed to wake up their parents to see what gifts were under the tree. Sleepy parents made their coffee as they obliged their progeny, basking in the warmth of their happiness on what was otherwise a cold day. “Ugh,” sneered Theodor, a grumpy Ruki who lived at the end of the road, as he climbed out of bed and snapped the curtains shut. He was a loner by most standards. He hung out with his beloved Petpet Max the White Doglefox and not too many others. Although he preferred it that way, certain days of the year were harder than others. His parents were not around and he had been an only child. Not really any friends either. Others always either pitied him or feared him; he couldn’t always tell which of the two were worse, but as long as it kept them away from him it didn’t matter either way. He looked down at Max sleeping peacefully in his bed, feet kicking on occasion as if he were trying to run. Maybe in his dream he was running. Theodor used to have dreams. He wanted to run a bakery. Toad’s Terrific Petpet Sitting Service was dead, to begin with. There is no doubt about that. The schedule book of TTPSS was empty, every half-hour, every hour, every day, every week. Toad checked it. And, Toad checked it twice, as the old rhymes say. Toad’s Terrific Petpet Sitting Service was dead as a door-nail. He’d been having trouble staying at home so much since he’d lost his job. It seemed like the perfect time to get some writing done but it also felt like he was wasting time not searching for a job more actively. Though, truly, what more can you do but apply, apply, apply and wait, wait, wait? This all to say, he was walking down May Avenue of Neopia Central in order to get out of the house for a bit. Unintentionally, yet predictably, he’d walked a familiar path and found himself face to face with the Planetpoints he worked for just a few months ago. The squat square building was aglow with yellow light through large windows. Toad had been miserable at Planetpoints. He’d spent the better part of ten years there and eventually he got old enough that he’d forgotten the lessons of his youth and impulsively, perhaps foolishly, left the job with little other prospects. The air smelt a little sweeter back then, the breeze a little crisper on my skin as I played with you until the sky turned dark. My memories may have faded as I’ve grown older, but there are certain points in my life I remember so clearly, so vivid in my mind, and adopting you was one of them. I often look back with fondness to the time that we were both young, reckless, and so full of life that nothing could stop us. The Day You Came Home
That day at the Neopian Pound is a little hazy when I try to recall the details, but I know my life changed within moments of locking eyes with you. I remember walking down aisles of Neopets looking for someone to take them home with them. Their names, written above them, were colourful to say the least. Some of them were much older, some of them mere days old. I had walked past so many pets before I was somehow drawn to you: a young Bori, 3 days old, big eyes staring straight at me with an intensity I had never felt before.
